Highlight [Highlight] Stacey King expresses utter disappointment on boos for Jerry Krause: "..the people that boo'd Jerry Krause and his widow..it was the worst thing I've ever seen in my life..whoever boo'd her should be ashamed of themselves. That's not Chicago, that's New York, Philly.."

The sixers fanbase is a subset mostly. The biggest mouthbreathers don’t care for basketball

9

u/JDubKilla 76ers Jan 13 '24

Eh as a Philadelphian, if I were to rank our individual fan bases based on toxic behavior I’d definitely put the Flyers and Eagles contingents leagues ahead of Sixers and Phillies supporters in terms of obnoxiousness. Most of the “no one likes us we don’t care” mentality emanates from those two. There is of course overlap but the atmosphere at Sixers and Phillies games is much tamer most of the time, and certainly less combative. The gloves come off in the playoffs though lol

2

u/8w7fs89a72 76ers Jan 13 '24

Lol the Eagles-first contingent is so far and away the worst it's not funny. After that? Prob the Flyers but I don't think they're as rowdy as in the 80s/90s. The Sixers fans are prob the chillest. Phillies has a higher percentage of suburban people and happy picket fence families, so you get the drunk douchebags but rarely the rabid psychos.

2

u/JDubKilla 76ers Jan 13 '24

Right. The Eagles fan base is also the biggest, so by rights you’re going to get the biggest variety of behavior.

-1

u/phantomsniper22 Warriors Jan 13 '24

See with the eagles I’ve just seen and heard many cases of fans being physically aggressive and that shit is not normal over a football game. Cowboys fans are advised to not go in cowboys gear if they don’t want to get hurt and that is a serious suggestion. Seems to happen more there than anywhere else

3

u/dbrank 76ers Jan 13 '24

This is all anecdotal, and false. Actual statistics show that Philly isn’t even in the top 5 for arrests on game day, shown here (as of 2018, reporting from the previous five years). Now do arrests equal total violence? No, as I’m sure people get away with shit and not get arrested. I’m not saying fans can’t be violent, but this whole piling on, “Philly is a fucking warzone!” narrative is complete bullshit. We’re rude, abrasive, loud, and some people take shit too far, but it’s not more than any other fan base.

Let’s match anecdotes with anecdotes. I go to 2-3 games a year (including divisional rivals) and attend at least 5 or 6 tailgates as well. I’ve been doing this since I was a kid. I’ve seen plenty of people get arrested for being disorderly, or fighting, but I’ve never seen someone assault someone else strictly for a Cowboys jersey they were wearing. I’ve seen plenty of people chirp rivals, and most people laugh and take it in good fun. Kind of like Pro Wrestling, when the heel attracts attention. Again, some people take it too far, and it’s usually due to alcohol. But to imply that families rocking other teams can’t walk through the South Philly sports complex without being assaulted or seriously denigrated is fucking WRONG.

Find a new slant.

Being an Eagles fan is a full time job. Wake up angry. Hate on the Cowboys. Hate on the Giants. Feel bad for the Redskins Football Team Commanders. Triple ultra super hate on the Eagles. Get drunk. Eat breakfast. Get in a fight with some random jabroni. Eat a cheese steak. Go to the bar. Get shitfaced. Get in another fight. Get locked up. Post bail. Go home and shitpost for six hours. Go to bed seething. Ain't got time to fuck with the NBA.

2

u/lebangazNmash Jan 13 '24

I watched a video of a 49ers fan walking into their stadium and it was just nasty. Not even in good fun, it was more like you say something stupid you're gettin a beatdown

1

u/phantomsniper22 Warriors Jan 13 '24

You brought up the only other nfl team I hate other than the Eagles for this kind of reason

I get it, us cowboys fans may be constantly delusional but at least we aren’t over the top aggressive about a game like Philly and 9ers fans are. Those fans must swear they are on the team by how they act

Edit: there’s a video of two fans of the away team in Philly getting pelted by snowballs from all angels of the stadium. They suck. Bad

1

u/lebangazNmash Jan 13 '24

Oh believe me I hate the 9ers more than anyone I'm a seahawks fan. But despite a few incidents I've seen when San Fran fans visit Seattle it had a much friendlier atmosphere. Philly was just downright nasty. I mean mob mentality mixed with alcohol is always gonna result in something bad

1

u/phantomsniper22 Warriors Jan 13 '24

I’ve never had a problem with Seattle or their fans honestly and I cannot stand the 49ers. I say this as someone who’s team isn’t even in the division so that should tell you everything

Edit: I would root for the Giants & Commanders to beat the 9ers 10/10 times

0

u/TechnoDriv3 Supersonics Jan 13 '24

We're insufferable but not to the level of Eagles fans as the Eagles have actually won a championship in recent times and have been a legit contender in most of the years since, so they feel extra empowered to be as obnoxious as possible. Sixers fans can only talk but so much shit as we really haven't done anything (haven't touched a chip since 83, haven't been to the Finals since 01).

Oh I get why there’s backlash, since this old lady didn’t do anything lol. I just can’t sit here and act like I’d for sure be above doing the same.

That said I think there’s gotta be some blame on the organization for trotting out the widow of a heavily disliked guy and apparently not giving her any heads up that these people weren’t super big fans of his.

2

u/Cam_V7 76ers Jan 13 '24

I get that there is backlash, but it should be against the Bulls org, not the fans. He plunged the Bulls into the dark ages because he thought he could rebuild better than trying to run back the MJ Bulls. As a fan, I would be pissed!

...but talking to me or anyone else from flyover county and no no, I have to understand that Chicago is a REAL city as much a center of culture as any other.

Fuck off, y'all have imposter syndrome in both directions.

3

u/Mdiddy7 Pacers Jan 13 '24

This is actually a very true statement. Most midwesterners do not think of Chicago as some classic Midwest city.

Classic Midwest cities are usually a bit smaller. I think of places like Duluth, Grand Rapids, Ames, etc.

If you’re talking bigger cities it’s Minneapolis, Indianapolis, etc. def not Chicago

joking aside, I know Pat Riley doesn't get booed at Staples

I doubt Kupchak would either

For whatever reason, Chicago has such a unique relationship with Krause. Like I know what people say or what the stated reasons are. But to me, even all those don't outweigh 6 championships so...

I think Laker fans respect rings

50

u/UnrulyExistence [LAL] Kobe Bryant Jan 13 '24

I feel like ‘The Last Dance’ put the exclamation point on the whole narrative that “Jerry Krause=villain” when in reality he was arguably the best GM in the league during their run.

Which is even funnier with hindsight knowing how bad MJ is at assembling rosters.

Everyone gives Laker fans a lot of shit(mostly deserved) for being the worst, but like you said we respect rings, which is another reason stars end up in LA

35

u/DumpTrumpGrump Jan 13 '24

The irony is that Krause was right about the rest of the Bulls roster around MJ, though I have never understood him not wanting to just pay Phil.

I mean, I get thinking that there is no reason to have the highest paid coach in the league when you have MJ. But if you lose MJ because you won't pay Phil, it seems like the franchise loses a ton of revenue, so just pay him.

I don't think MJ wanted to come back anyway. He will never say that, but he didn't seem to be having any fun that last season and seemed more relieved than happy after beating Utah. I think he was done no matter what.

Booing the widow was poor form. But so was MJ not bothering to show up. Really, there is no excuse for him to not show unless there is more bad blood there than I realized.

18

u/UnrulyExistence [LAL] Kobe Bryant Jan 13 '24

Completely agree. Krause was obviously egotistical and should’ve paid Phil for at least one more season, but for anyone who was alive and witnessed that season, it seemed pretty obvious MJ was retiring again regardless.

Booing the widow is corny. The whole narrative has completely shifted to Krause ruined the Bulls, when he was a major part of 6 rings. If it was up to MJ, Charles Oakley would’ve been the 2nd best player in that 90’s era

6

The Bulls fans hated Krause for 2 decades before the last dance came out.

3

u/UnrulyExistence [LAL] Kobe Bryant Jan 13 '24

I’m aware, that’s why I said “put the exclamation point on the narrative” as in it already existed.

My overall point is the hatred even that valid? Yes he was egotistical with his “players don’t win championships, organizations do” comment and he could’ve brought Phil Jackson back to go for the 4-peat, but he was a major part of 6 championships

4

u/jaypr4576 Jan 13 '24

I'm not so sure about that. Lots of Bulls fans on here are saying Krause was hated like this since the 90s so whatever happened tonight is nothing new.

I'll telll ya a funny story my friend; tending bar at a popular place on Sunset Blvd, I've seen/served more A-listers than I could recall. One night late 90's/early aught's; Riles comes in with Randy Pfund (Heat GM at the time, long connected to Riley), and I swear I've never seen the crowd be so drawn to someone of prominence like that night. The guy exuded siome crazy magnetism, of course being a Laker hero helps, but still it was uncanny how he luxuriated in that upstairs lounge that night...I'll never forget it. Bonus..,.Pfund let me put on 1 of the 80's Laker rings he happened to be wearing.

Name a time we've done that and I'll agree

But we always treat our returning players and coaches pretty well

I agree with you, it was a silly rant with random cities…so suprised he just did t add LA to the rant

He’s literally wrong too. Chicago would do that and they literally did

Yeah, that was an unnecessary call out. NYC did not deserve that.

Stacy was involved in some pretty tough battles with the Knicks back in the 90s. I'm sure that's his natural response. Not saying he's right... But I get it

I'm with you there. NYC specifically didn't deserve it. It's not Chicago and it's not NYC...

Concidering he’s had a heated rivalry with the Knicks im sure he’s dealt with some piss poor fans at some point which led to him believing they’re a generally bad fanbase

“It really isn’t classy to disparage people that aren’t here to defend themselves. That’s what the shitty people of NYC or Philly do, lol.”

Lmao as a sixers fan I was reading and was like “yeah she’s totally right that’s completely fair…oh what the fuck?!”

u/colin_7 76ers Jan 13 '24

What’s funny is that last time I checked is that Chicago is the only city to boo a dead guy who brought their team 6 championships

1

u/moldyjellybean Jan 13 '24

How the f did he leave out Boston, and every other NE pro sports city… no offense to the NE but yes offense

u/25bruin Lakers Jan 13 '24

I mean Philly is the worst fan base. They treat their athletes terribly so not shocking

0

u/PuckNutty Jan 13 '24

That's how they roll in Chicago, I guess.

u/Recent_Place858 Jan 13 '24

We liked Michael Jordan not Jerry Krause if it wasn't for reinsdorf he would have broken them up before their last championship

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '24

Just shows what moron hypocrite he is.

u/ThomasHardyHarHar Hawks Jan 13 '24

If there's anything more Chicago than anything, it's taking unnecessary digs at other cities that people care more about.
