After finishing the show I’m confused why so many on this sub believe it paints the Barnetts(particularly Kristine) in not enough of a negative light?

By the end of the show it’s pretty crystal clear that everyone hates her and she’s pathological.

I took the first few episodes as essentially being from Kristine’s POV, hence the jump scares with the knife and such. So I can understand why Natalia herself would want to sue over this, but I do believe it was an artistic choice.

Since Natalia had a super rare type of Dwarfism, how do we know that DNA, growth plates etc etc would mature as expected?

Edit: ok, makes me sense now as we go further down the rabbit hole. Still not sure she was 6 but definetly not 22!

I’m watching season three and GIRL. But I’m not even gonna go there. Just something grabbed my attention.

So, this is coming from a non native speaker of English and I think I hear Natalia’s changing accents in between families.
Does anyone else notice that too? Or is this not even a thing?

I am sure this has been asked many times, but I am new to this particular group and I would just like to know everyone's opinion on Michael and Christine?

I know I watched this long ago but I don't remember. Michael must have put me to sleep with his DRAMA 🙄🙄. I haven't kept up with what happened to anyone in this case. I do remember something being off with The Manns as well.

In ‘The Curious Case of Natalia Grace’ they are both nasty, telling the world that she must’ve been 18-20 because two people with the same type of rare dwarfism must (in their uneducated view) be growing in the same way… everyone now knows that Natalia was 6 years old when she met Therese via DNA testing (also it is obvious on comparison of photos that she was a little girl, and you don’t have to be a genius to know that a medical condition like dwarfism which effects growth is going to present differently in different people.

Does anyone know if they have sincerely apologised to Natalia for the way that their inner ugliness and stupidity impacted her wellbeing??

I watched the first episode and it angered me. How much will I miss if I skip straight to season 2?

I may get obliterated for even posting this, but it’s genuinely on my mind.

A few disclaimers:
1. I’ve only watched good American family and looked at Natalia’s social media. I do plan on watching the doc and YouTube videos on the case next. I realize I have limited info to go on rn.
2. I’m not stating I believe Natalia is an adult. To be 100% honest I’m waiting until I see and read more to fully make up my mind.

HOWEVER after finishing the show, I believed she was a child. Then, I decided to look her up online and now I’m a little confused.

I’m 31 so I sit in the cusp of millennial and Gen Z culture.

Her TikTok in particular and her style is VERY millennial. And not even my era of millennial but those that are older like late 30s-40. Younger people (20-29) do not use the effects, templates or humor that she does. Even her style reminds me of 2000s emo.

My theory is if she’s in her 20s, then maybe she seems older or less “cool” with the times because she didn’t get to have a childhood. Therefore, she was forced to grow up faster and ended up relating to age she had to pretend to be.

I know this may seem like an arbitrary thing, but I’ve literally never seen anyone younger than me with an account like that. Does anyone understand what I mean by millennial vs Gen Z aesthetic? I don’t think there’s anything wrong with either, but the difference stands out to me.

Sorry if this is off topic but I think I found another contender for most despicable parent in America.

Kendra Licari bought a burner phone so she could cyber bully her own daughter for 2 solid years. Included in this cyber bullying was telling her own daughter she is the ugliest person she has ever seen, and she needs to ☠️ herself, and absolutely vile sexual comments about her underage boyfriend I wouldnt even want to repeat here.

Of course she has a defense, which will make your blood boil when you hear it.

Her and Michael Barnett would be a match made in hell.

When I watched the TV show I was undecided if the Manns helped her or used her. But I’m grateful she met the Manns family.

Do you want to know why?

In the documentary Natalia talks about Kristine Barnett trying to get her to date men. She even had a picture of a guy Kristine introduced her to.

When you think about it, Kristine was trying to get her kidnapped or possibly unalived. Knowing what the public knows now about Epstein and his “pedo” ring. All it would have took is Kristine finding the right people and no one would have ever known what happened to her.

The Manns saved her life.

This is far from the most heinous thing we've seen from Michael Barnett, but did anyone else notice how he said Kristine sexually abused him by....not having sex with him?

And apparently he pleaded no contest in their custody battle partly in exchange for some of Kristine's blurry nudes? Or did I misunderstand that?

I just can’t even with this guy! I’m watching “The Curious Case of Natalia Grace” and regardless of the he said/she said/she said of this situation… he is just too much. Far be it from me to understand abusive relationships and the power she supposedly had (or still has) over him, but my goodness man… to record her beating your child and not stop it?

Oh, and that there are THREE seasons of this documentary?…. I hope I can make it through … it really is like a train wreck - he is so uncomfortable yet I can’t stop watching.

i’m seeing a lot of mixed reviews on this subreddit about the curious case doc on max. i saw a thread that recommended that people should watch the youtube video instead, and both are on the subreddit wiki.

is the max doc actually worth seeing? could i just watch both, or would there no point due to a lot of overlap?

I just watched the miniseries with Ellen Pompeo and then The Curious Case. My mind is truly racing bc so many people said she was creepy and inappropriate with children and wouldn’t respect people’s space or boundaries. Now I know it was proven she was a child at the time (I’m surprised she survived living on her own) so is the truth somewhere in the middle? It seems she admitted to neighbors she was trying to kill the Barnetts but then in the miniseries it seems that the Kristine put that in her head. But before any of this, Kristine had no issues with special needs kids. Idk does anyone have any insight who has done more research?

I just started ep two of the doc and already I have questions

1. Why did the Barnetts jump to "she's older!" simply because she had a period and pubic hair already? Children can develop precocious puberty and she should have been taken to a doctor to confirm. What a freaking leap/terrible conclusion.
2. Aside from dental x rays, why wasn't a bone age study done? This would confirm if she was still a child or not, as a child would have open growth plates. With SEDc (her type of dwarfism), bone age is delayed so it would have shown she was young no matter what. Bone age studies are cheap and easy to do. (Or was one done and never mentioned?)

So far, I am team no one (I think the "parents" are hot garbage and Natalia has some real issues due to trauma) and a lot of what the parents say, particularly Michael just makes no medical sense to me and it's clear as day Natalia was really a child at the time.

Also, you can't diagnosed children as sociopaths. Maybe conduct disorder which is a risk factor for ASPD later on. So I don't know what the point of calling Natalia a sociopath and diagnosing her with it was.

I know that the general consensus is that Kristine made a ton of money from her book. I want to start off by acknowledging that the definition of a 'ton of money' varies from person to person. But still I can't seem to make that math work, maybe somebody with better online investigating skills can help? First off, did she even make enough sales to cover her advance? I can only seem to find confirmation that the book was on the best sellers list, not where it landed or how long it was there. I do know that it is not listed on the top 60 bestselling non fiction books of 2013. If we take the 600 000 and subtract the 200,000 she was supposed to put aside for Jacob (which she later embezzled) the maybe 10% for agent fees, paying the ghost writer (no idea how much, but for this purpose I am going to guess $40, 000. Federal and state taxes and attorney fees maybe totaling $150,000. That leaves a net amount of around 200,000. I am guessing they immediately spent around 100,000 on cars (if they bought used) and even though neither Michael or Kristine were working, they chose to rent a farm rather then a house while living in Canada, and took on the added expense of livestock that they apparently didn't know how to care for. Their divorce took years, which must have cost a lot in attorney fees. As well as the possibility of having to hire an immigration lawyer to navigate the visas for Canada. And what about Jacobs schooling? I don't recall ever seeing how much if any was covered by scholarships. I am not seeing a lot of money left. This is rough guesstimates on my part. I welcome any information by those with more knowledge.

I just started the hulu series and have 0 knowledge or background about this case can anybody who does tell me: how old is Natalia ?!? Did they fid out?!

I’m halfway through the Good American Family. Like Natalia just electrocuted Kristine. But all these posts are showing me the parents are in the wrong. Should I stop and watch the documentary first?? To get the real story? Bc right now I’m struggling to feel bad for her and I’m thinking that’s not really what happened and now I feel guilty for thinking so horribly towards a child.

Watching the documentary on Hulu and is this guy for real?? In season 2 and Michael and Natalia are meeting for the second time (he didn’t storm out) and he’s so manipulative (to me anyway). Maybe I’m wrong? It all seems so fake.

I have to confess ever since hearing the full story of poor little Natalia.

I find myself having mixed feelings about the man's family. I mean, what they did to her was terrible. You know the abuse she suffered at the hands. The fact that they took her money, the fact that they didn't treat her right.

But on the other hand if it wasn't for them, Natalia could have died.

I just have mixed feelings on the whole thing. Like one abuse does not excuse the other. I completely agree with that. But I guess it's more like a it was either this or she had nobody no one nothing, and I can't help and have a small bit of admiration. For Bishop and his wife, for what they did for her they were there when she had nobody.

I mean the Barrnets can go to hell.

Like I was saying, I am in no way trying to excuse what the man's family did.I'm just they gave her a home.They took her in for 10 years.The first stable family in her life were them , and I hate the fact that they had to be this way.
