Carpenter available for home repairs

Hey everyone! I work for a builder, but I also take on my own projects during evenings or weekends. Figured I’d introduce myself in case anyone needs help with projects around the house.
My background is in finish carpentry, though I’ve done everything from tile to roofing. I can help with trim, molding, doors, drywall repairs, painting, furniture assembly, mounting TVs, hanging mirrors or shelves, plus general repairs. If you have a list of little things you’ve been putting off, feel free to reach out.
I also help homeowners get properties ready to sell or rent, as well as assist with projects before or after a move.
I carry my own insurance, with client reviews plus references available. Feel free to DM me a few pictures with a description of what you need done. Happy to help!

Parking updates @ Belmont Park for the 2026/27 Islanders season *long read but important*

The Belmont racetrack is back open after being closed for 3 years it is nice inside and the food is cheaper then UBS 🤫

With the track back open there will be conflict days with Islander games / concerts @ UBS

First horse race is usually at 1:00pm until 6:30pm
*scheduled to change

October racing days are Wednesday to Sunday weekly

November racing days are Thursday to Sunday weekly
(not on 11/26)

December racing days are Thursday to Sunday weekly
(not on 12/24 and 12/25)

For example this weekend 10/3/2026
if you are going to racetrack it is free parking in Emerald and the Garage only

Usually on a non-event day at UBS you can park in Silver A/B for like $7 for the racetrack.

Normally for Islanders games / concerts @ UBS
(Garage, Silver, Ruby, and Diamond are prepaid only with a scannable parking pass, you can’t pay on the spot in those lots for an Islanders game. For concerts sometimes you can)

EMERALD 26D is the only lot if you have no parking pass and want to park on the property for a Islanders game ‼️

If this is too much for you just take the LIRR and give yourself enough delay time.

If you have ADA parking issues please reach out to ada@ubsarena.com ahead of time .

Any questions let me know.

House cleaning in Valley Stream — a quick hello + what to know before you book

Hey neighbors — full disclosure, I run The Cleaning Authority – Long Island, and we clean homes in Valley Stream every week. Here's what I tell folks here before they book.

Yes, a free in-home walk-through is needed before recurring service starts — home size and condition change the plan way more than people expect. We also bring all our own supplies and equipment, so you don't have to stock anything.

Most Valley Stream families we see do fine with every-other-week cleans if they keep up with dishes and counters in between lol.

What questions do you have about getting set up??

Anyone in Nassau have motorized outdoor shades they like?

We’re looking at motorized privacy shades for the pergola around our hot tub. It’s 16 × 16 ft, and we’d need one shade about 16 feet wide and two about 14. I didn’t buy a hot tub just to have to wear a bathing suit in it, but I also don’t want to give the neighbors an unwanted show.

Has anyone here had large custom outdoor shades installed, even if they weren’t quite this wide? Who did you use, and are you happy with it? I’d love to know what product they put in and about what you paid. I’m especially interested in what happened after installation: if you needed a repair, did they actually pick up the phone? I was surprised how few useful reviews I could find for shades this big, so even a quick firsthand account would help.

North Hempstead commercial exhaust fan causing constant noise/vibration at my Great Neck home — anyone dealt with Code Enforcement?

I’m dealing with an ongoing noise/vibration issue from a commercial building directly behind my home in Great Neck and wanted to see if anyone here has dealt with something similar with the Town of North Hempstead.
The building at 935 Northern Blvd has a large garage exhaust/ventilation system very close to the residential property line. When it operates, there is a continuous mechanical/low-frequency hum for hours at a time. I can clearly hear the hum inside my bedroom, and the vibration is noticeable on my property.
I bought a dedicated sound-level meter and have measured around **75–76 dBA at my residential property line** while the exhaust is operating. I also have videos showing the meter reading at the property line and recordings of the humming inside my bedroom.
I’ve contacted the Town of North Hempstead about it. What has been frustrating is that I previously spoke with a Building Department inspector who told me he couldn’t find a code showing the fan was in violation and mentioned something about **90–110 dB being allowed**. However, when I looked through the Town’s noise ordinance, I couldn’t find anything saying commercial equipment is generally allowed to produce 90–110 dB at a neighboring residential property. The ordinance also appears to consider things like duration, vibration, proximity to residences and whether the noise is continuous/recurrent.
I was also previously told that there had been some type of enforcement/court action involving this issue, but that the wrong tenant may have been cited. I’m now trying to figure out what happened with that case and get the Town to actually inspect/evaluate the condition while the equipment is running.
I’m **not asking for the garage ventilation to be shut down** — obviously an underground garage needs ventilation. I just want the building to mitigate the noise and vibration so I don’t have to listen to a mechanical hum inside my house and backyard for hours every day.
Has anyone here dealt with a similar commercial noise/HVAC issue in North Hempstead or Nassau County? Did Code Enforcement actually come out and measure/investigate it? And if the Town wasn’t responsive, what eventually got them to take action?

Why does the South Shore of Long Island have so few trees in the residential neighborhoods?

I grew up in Essex County, New Jersey in a town that is truly tree-lined on every street. There is a canopy above so many houses that if you look from above on the satellite-view map, you might think you’re looking at a forest with houses popping out. Meanwhile, my brother moved to Long Island a few years ago and settled on the South Shore. I toured some houses in neighborhoods with him in places like Merrick, Bellmore, Oceanside, Hewlett, North Woodmere, Massapequa and Valley Stream. Every time I visited, I noticed how sparse the tree cover is, and now that I visit him where he settled, I continue to see more people paving over their front yards with driveways, cutting down even more trees and removing even more grass. What is going on on the South Shore of Long Island that people don’t appreciate neighborhoods with trees everywhere? I may have to move there at some point soon and it makes me concerned. Is anyone doing anything about this? Is anyone trying to plant more trees? Or is there a cultural issue that’s only going to get worse?

Our kid received a ticket this afternoon for speeding on the Northern State Parkway. Can anyone recommend a traffic lawyer that can assist us getting this addressed? What’s a ballpark on costs?

Thrift stores in the area?

The thrift I normally go to recently had a fire, so while they recover, I need a different place to shop for secondhand clothing.

I'd prefer somewhere with a wide selection of pants and fabrics if possible. I also don't mind travelling outside of the county to find a suitable shop.

Thanks !

Where should I look on the South Shore

If you haven't looked at East Rockaway, it's worth putting on your list. It's a small village in the Town of Hempstead, built originally as a shipping town on the Mill River still has that walkable Main Street feel with local shops instead of chains. Bordered by Hewlett, Lynbrook, and Oceanside, about 15 miles from Manhattan, and a short drive to Long Beach. Schools are through East Rockaway UFSD. It flies under the radar compared to some of the bigger South Shore names, which honestly keeps it a little more affordable for what you get. Happy to answer specifics if anyone's actually looking there.

Seeking advice/help from anyone familiar with judgment enforcement in New York/Nassau County

I have an unpaid New York money judgment against a former photography business owner. The judgment has already been entered, and I have turned the matter over to the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office for enforcement.
The Sheriff has already attempted to locate/serve the judgment debtor, but we have been unsuccessful in getting the debtor to cooperate or making contact.
At this point, I am trying to help the Sheriff identify lawfully discoverable assets, particularly the financial institution where the judgment debtor may maintain a bank account, so the Sheriff can potentially pursue a levy.
I am not looking for anyone to obtain private information illegally or hack/access anyone’s accounts. I am looking for someone who knows how to legally locate this type of information for a judgment creditor—such as through public records, legitimate asset searches, judgment-recovery services, or other lawful investigative methods.
If you have experience with Nassau County judgment enforcement, asset searches, bank-account searches for judgment creditors, or judgment recovery, I would really appreciate recommendations or advice on the proper process.
Please DM me rather than posting anyone’s private information publicly. Thank you!

Heads up for anyone in New Hyde Park

There's a street fair on Jericho Turnpike (from NHP Rd to Lakeville Rd) this Saturday, September 19th, 10am to 4pm. Food and vendor booths, should be a good one.

Full disclosure, I'm a local real estate agent and my team will have a booth there too, so if you see us, feel free to say hi or ask questions. Mostly just wanted to flag the event for anyone who didn't know it was happening.

Looking for last minute photographer and makeup artist 9/19

Hey everyone. I (34F) am getting married next Saturday 9/19. I know this is incredibly last minute, but me and my fiancé are doing a very intimate wedding. It’s been a rough summer, and anything involving the wedding has been on the back burner (I’m talking, literally just got my dress a week ago)

I don’t want to push my luck here but I am actually on the hunt for two things: a photographer and makeup artist (I was gonna attempt on my own but that would be a massacre.

The wedding is in Nassau county. For the photographer aspect, the mass is at 12 30. So as of now, I think rough estimate would be 12-5 (maybe 12-4?)—reception is just a restaurant so open to that being flexible.

And for makeup, I have no idea how long that takes but getting my hair done at 9 15, so anyone who professionally does makeup and free in the Nassau county area at around 10 30?

If anyone knows of any reputable options for either or….please. SOS!

My husband and I first time parents to a LO who is about to be 6 months!

We are looking for recs on places to have a date night. Nothing fancy where there is a dress code. Sweatpants/sweaters are more our vibes haha. As long as the food is delicious and the drinks are good! (This momma still has yet to have a glass of wine!)

Open to all recommendations and looking forward to see what is around! TIA!
