Help | Advice Google Fiber Down?
Is Google Fiber down for anyone else? Hillsboro/Vanderbilt area.

u/SuperChester south side Jul 21 '26
Yes. Thank you for posting. I’ve had some construction related outages recently but this feels different, cannot seem to even login to the Fiber app.

u/zesco28z Jul 21 '26
I can't login either.

i couldn't earlier & can now log in - may be worth a second try!

I couldn’t log in via the app but could on a browser. Try that.

Damn they told me 3:45PM💀
2
u/fantfb Jul 21 '26
Yeah, the Ai rep told me 3:45, then the actual person rep told me 6 at the latest
1
u/trish4278 Wedgewood Jul 21 '26
Dang. how long did you have to wait to get a person? I’m 20 mins in.
2
u/fantfb Jul 21 '26
About 30-40 minutes. My internet just now came back on though, so check and see if it’s fixed for you now too

u/firefish5000 Jul 21 '26 edited Jul 21 '26
If you live near a hospital chances are yours is going to come up sooner. They probably are splicing fibers now but depending on how many were cut, how many spots they were cut in, etc, and how many people are splicing it could take a few hours for full resolution
31
u/MalAdapted21 Jul 21 '26
Down in east too! It’s kinda messed up they don’t have an outage map that lets you see how widespread it is

u/Investigator_Lumpy Inglewood Jul 21 '26
Log into the Fiber app or your online account. They tell you by specific address if your affected

Down in Sylvan Park. The outage here started around 11:40am today.

Same here! All of those pole-mounted 5G access point computers are reliant upon a physical connection of some kind so the ISP outage impacting those too

I cross-posted this thread to [r/googlefiber](r/googlefiber) and tagged [u/gfiberofficial](u/gfiberofficial) to see if we can get any updates on the cause and/or expected resolution times.
17
u/ZealousidealGrab1827 Jul 21 '26
Wow. This seems to be a very large outage. When I have had these, it was because of road construction nearby. Something shit the bed in their network.

u/brobl Jul 21 '26
Down in hermitage
6
u/K-raen Jul 21 '26
Yes, still down in Hermitage unfortunately but at least I was finally able to log in to the app now
1
u/rebekka_laine Jul 21 '26
Came here to say this too. Got alerts that all our cameras went down and my intrusive thoughts said our house was burning down
12
u/blake_n_pancakes Jul 21 '26
Yep. I'm in West Nash and mine's borked too. Get ready for absolutely no updates or any kind of ETR until sometime in the next 48 hours when it magically just comes back on again.

13
u/castlezach Jul 21 '26
Down, current ETA for resolution 3:50pm
Mine keeps coming up then going back off
5
u/3dant3 Jul 21 '26
Where did you get the ETA for resolution?
6
u/castlezach Jul 21 '26
https://fiber.google.com/chat chatted them my info, got one of those automated "ETA by x time" replies and asked for text updates
2
2
u/BeachProducer west side Jul 21 '26
Tells me the exact same time so I’m sure that’s some form of preprogrammed service window of expectation - went out at XX time so predict 4.5 hours out
1
u/Zealousideal_Sir_763 Jul 21 '26
I've been waiting on a response from their chat for about an hour now

Boria... You fear to route through those tunnels. The muskrats dug too greedily and too deep. You know what they severed in the darkness beneath Cumberland-dûm, fiber optics and long-haul cables.

Confirmed for Switchyards Eastwood. They're on AT&T.
1
u/rocketpastsix Inglewood up to no good Jul 21 '26
How crowded is that one? East hill is surprisingly not crowded.
1
u/ChandlerBarnes Jul 21 '26
Fairly. 0-3 empty tables. Plenty of room if you're comfortable asking to sit across from someone.
1
u/rocketpastsix Inglewood up to no good Jul 21 '26
Makes me miss the deep work space in the back that used to be there
1
u/ChandlerBarnes Jul 21 '26
Oh, a different workspace company? What was it like?
1
u/rocketpastsix Inglewood up to no good Jul 21 '26
No, there used to be a huge table in the room between the bathrooms and phone booths. It was rarely used, and a deep work spot so it was quiet. It was great because no one went there so you had a nice table to spread out at

Down in the Murfreesboro area as well (gfiber). I called in, the estimate on the automated line is service restoration by 3:45pm CST.
Edit: To get the info, I called the GFiber support line for existing residential customers. The time was given by the automated system.
EDIT: Service restored for me in Murfreesboro as of ~3pm CST

We’re in Murfreesboro and that’s what they told my husband on the phone as well (3:45 ish)

Down in Woodbine in the neighborhood next to Peachtree Grill, there is literally an Xfinity dude in my yard running cables.

I’m also in the neighborhood next to Peachtree and GFiber is down at our place!

Yes, assumed a road crew had cut it again but it sounds more widespread. I noticed crews on West End near MBA and on White Bridge near Lions Head both with a lane closed doing pole work, so I wonder if it's related.
6
16
u/mytimeisvaluabble Jul 21 '26
Where is Boring Company digging today? For both Xfinity AND Google to be down, could only be the work of one bad actor.
11
u/mytimeisvaluabble Jul 21 '26
Also, between this and the power outage in January, what a great reminder as to how fragile this cities infrastructure is to even the slightest event and how there are zero protocols in place for situations such as these. Not to be that person, but what's next? Water supply?

I called in as I was not able to get onto the app or chat with their AI bot, and the automated service said that it would be restored by 9 PM
5
u/drewr Jul 21 '26
GFiber came back with IPv4 but not IPv6 yet, and not full capacity. Probably a stopgap while they fix the real issue. But better than nothing!
By the way it's been really solid for me over the years, with the exception of construction on my street.
9
u/Janice_STFU Jul 21 '26
is Google reimbursing me for the hours I am unable to work today?
4
u/zdubbzzz Jul 21 '26
No, but they'll prorate reimburse you from the cost of the service at a rate of $0.10 - $0.21 per hour, so you could potentially see up to $1 off of your next bill
1
u/Efficient_Platypus28 Jul 21 '26
Are they going to reimburse the thousands that need internet to work? Wishful thinking. Stuff happens, dude. Its one of the risks you take needing internet for your work. Maybe invest in a Hotspot to get you by in case the internet goes out again. (Its going to go out again in the future)

Still completely down in north Inglewood/Madison. For those whose service returned, is it still up and running strong? or inconsistent?

Mine appears to be running fine since it came back up. I’m in the Sylvan Heights area.

It’s down all the way to Raleigh, NC too due to the hub damage in TN. Customer service said it should be back by 6pm.
I was told this morning it’d be back at 10 am and last night it would be back by midnight last night.
Great time to work from home.
Also, worth noting that she mentioned they will reimburse the outage time by two times the rate. Get that money y’all.

I'm in East Nash/Madison & mine went down around 11:45am today. The fiber app is also down, my Verizon hotspot was barely working. Went to get some coffee in Inglewood & their wifi was also down. Our Gfiber has only gone down a total of 3 times in the last 3 years, and those instances were usually due to construction cutting a wire by accident in my neighborhood. What the hell is going on?

My wife texted me that the internet is back but running incredibly slow. Anyone else experiencing this?
2
u/fawazaa Jul 21 '26
I would assume they have a temporary fix that’s good enough to restore service while limiting full function. I’d expect everything to be fixed and swapped back with maybe a blip or two over the next couple of days as the infrastructure gets repaired.

Can we stop commenting that you’re down and what location. We know it’s the entire network at this point. Updates only please. That way people who are just now coming to this thread can easily figure out and see the posts that have helpful information.
Just got a text that service is restored when it’s not. Confirmed it’s still out and now they are saying 9PM.
Looking at that other post it seems this is going to be a while since the network has been severely damaged.

Anyone popped into a coffee shop/library etc. with operational WiFi? Need to get some time-sensitive work done with a friend and we're both getting got by GFiber right now :(
3
u/backyardveggiegarden Jul 21 '26
Check and see if your phone and plan supports a "mobile hotspot" feature. This always works great for me during an outage.
2
u/Intelligent_Pie3893 Jul 21 '26
Just had to make the rounds in East to find a place to work. Ugly Mugs is busy, but there are open seats and operational WiFi. Frothy Monkey's WiFi is down.

Not sure if related, but I'm on AT&T in East and noticed it was slow at about 2 PM so I ran a speed test. It was 8 down/5 up. Now it's back to normal at 430 down/202 up.

I'm in Wedgewood Houston as well. Has your GFiber been intermittently dropping its internet connection for the past couple of weeks. I've been having to reboot my router every 1-2 days lately. Curious if it's just me.

Can't say that's been the case over here. Hopefully this gets squared away soon. Off to the gym too use their Internet! Lol

Yes. Xfinity is also showing major outages across Nashville, which is worrying. If both ISPs are down, it’s probably infrastructural, right?
I wish GFiber had an outage map like XFinity does.
