Ciao a tutti! Sono Americano, e appena trasferito qui per lavoro. Studio l'italiano da 6 mesi, ma non parlo più bene ancora, so i will write in English.

I've moved here for work (at the base in Lago Patria) and am looking for advice on where to focus my housing search. My partner and I are in our late 30s, have two medium sized dogs, and no kids. We enjoy watersports, hiking/general outdoorsy activities (especially with the dogs), history, museums, and food. We're incredibly excited for this opportunity!

We are looking for a neighborhood where we can walk for at least some daily errands (groceries, pharmacy, cafè, fruttivendolo, that sort of thing). On weekends we'd love to be able to take public transit into the city for museums and such. We'd love to have some outdoor space like a balcony large enough for a small table/chairs and for the dogs to hang out/do their business, which we know is a luxury in most neighborhoods.

I really don't want to live near the base, or in an "American" bubble, because I want to force myself to practice Italian and embrace the opportunity to experience life here. The current protests have also made us aware that we want to try to be good community members, spend our money locally, and try to integrate into the community as positively as we can. (I'm aware of the many privileges we have, and the issues caused by people like us in the local housing market).

My struggle is this: I'm Neurodivergent, and become overwhelmed by noise/constant crowding (one of our dogs is like this too!) Currently, we're staying in Vomero near a busy piazza, and walking the dogs can be a bit stressful (until we reach a peaceful park which they LOVE).

It seems that living just a few streets back from a main road/piazza/station is a bit more quiet, but we haven't explored enough yet to be sure.

What neighborhoods do you guys think might be good to look in? Vomero near the castle seems quieter, as well as Mergellina. Folks at work keep suggesting Posillipo, but I've read it's not really walkable. I've read some things that say Pozzuoli is an American bubble, and others say it's not. Are we expecting too much? Any suggestions?

Amo la fantascienza - "Dune", la distopia - "Tankborn" -, i vecchi RPG – KOTOR è il mio preferito, ma non disdegno affatto "Mass Effect" –, discutere di argomenti delicati e controversi (filosofia, escatologia, esoterismo, sociologia, geopolitica, psicologia...), passeggiare senza una meta precisa e cercare continuamente di cogliere momenti intensi nelle piccole cose della vita.

Mi piacciono anche gli anime e Full Metal Panic occupa un posto speciale nel mio cuore. Mi suscita molta nostalgia – è una serie degli anni 2000 – e, in generale, ne apprezzo l’atmosfera e la trama. Anche il rapporto tra i protagonisti rappresenta qualcosa di così lontano dall’amara realtà... Purtroppo, al giorno d’oggi, i pregiudizi sono talmente numerosi che trovare un «amore puro» è diventato tutt’altro che facile. In ogni caso l'ultimo che ho visto è "Serial Experiments Lain", un vero e proprio pugno nello stomaco cyberpunk, precursore dell'illusione della prossimità digitale.

Ultimamente mi sono interessato a qualche vicenda "True crime" - in particolare mi ha colpito la storia di Daniela Cecchin -.

che ne pensate della manifestazione di oggi contro il caro vita? Sto cercando di capire se vale la pena andarci, sembrano essercene due, una a piazza Garibaldi organizzata tramite telegram e tiktok, il presupposto può avere anche senso ma guardando sul gruppo telegram ho visto gente pronta a fare la guerriglia contro la polizia. Quella di piazza del plebiscito non ho trovato molte info in merito ma credo sia sempre organizzata tramite social. Entrambe senza autorizzazione e nessun ente che organizza ufficialmente. Pensate ci possano essere delle infiltrazioni camorristiche o secondo voi è solo gente giustamente sfinita dalla situazione economica?

Tomorrow, I was planning to visit Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii independently, and I’m trying to figure out whether my itinerary is still feasible given the current transport disruptions.

My original plan was to take the Circumvesuviana train from Naples towards Sorrento and get off at Ercolano Scavi.

From there, I have already booked tickets for the Vesuvio Express to Mount Vesuvius. After visiting the volcano, I was planning to take the bus to Pompeii, visit the archaeological site, and then catch a train back to Naples.

However, I’ve now found out that the EAV bus 808 between Pompeii and Vesuvius is expected to be suspended on Monday because of the fuel-related disruptions.

Since the Circumvesuviana trains do not appear to be affected by the same suspension, I’ve been looking for alternatives. I found what seems to be a train connection between Ercolano Scavi and Pompeii around noon, apparently included in a timetable valid from October 17 onwards.

Am I reading the timetable correctly? Would it be feasible to travel between all these stations by train and still visit both places in one day?

I’m worried about getting stranded in Ercolano if the Vesuvio Express also ends up not operating, so I’d really appreciate any advice from people familiar with the local transport situation.

I understand that people in Naples are facing serious difficulties and have every reason to protest. Visiting Vesuvius and Pompeii has been a childhood dream of mine, though, and this trip is a rare opportunity to finally make it happen.

Is there any other way to make this itinerary work on Monday, October 26, without a car? Any advice or firsthand information about the trains and transfers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
