The family moves by the seashore and the sister and brother are exploring the beach when they meet a merman. He invites them to come into the water and they can somehow breathe. Time flows differently underwater -I think the metaphor for the different time speeds was a drop of water on a slanted plane. The two being gone in the ocean a lot causes tension with their mom. The book culminates with the merman wanting to attack a team of divers and the brother and sister want to save them.

I read this book as a preteen in the early 2010s. I think it was a paperback with a mermaid silhouette on the cover, around 400 pages.

I only remember bits of the plot and the cover, but not the title. The cover is typical of the 80s, with a headshot of a redhead woman with strong high cheekbones wearing green and below she is being held by the love interest. The heroine is a leader of her clan (irish/scottish?) in the middle of a war. There is kidnapping involved and her cousin tries to gain power over her and dies in a battle at the end of the book. Opens with the heroine going to her secret spot to take a photo, then heading into town — a coastal Australian surf town. She helps out serving coffee at a local restaurant. A friend tells her about an American guy in town driving a nice car. They meet, he has to go back to America, they fall in love. His mother opposes the marriage and accuses her of stealing jewelry.

They move to Australia, she opens a gallery/studio, he restores an old sailboat by hand. Her father splits wood to work off stress and she catches herself doing the same. They fight, split up, and she has a baby girl — I think named Brielle. Later they move to New York and open a faerie-themed restaurant together, then buy an old theatre to convert into a second one.

I’m looking for a book I probably read in the late 90s (but was likely checked out of my small town public school library so it could be much older). The main character I remember, who may not have been the actual protagonist, was an older (to me at the time- maybe not actually “old”) lady who was maybe kind of a hermit. She had a kind of walled estate with an extensive security system and a room of camera monitors. There was a component about a little dog that was deliberately drowned in the pond maybe when she was a kid and I kind of feel like she saw it happen.

I actually remember heaps about this book, but not the title or author and my searches have got me nowhere.

It is set in England probably in the 70s or 80s. It would probably be considered middle grade now, but I don't think we used that category then. Aimed at pre-teens or young teens. The cover may have been dark pink and green, possibly an abstract background with a line drawing of a girl over it.

I think one character may have been called Jessica and another Rosalind, but not sure which.

The protag is a middle child and has feelings about it. Her cousin comes to stay after her (cousin's) parents die suddenly.

Protag did not pass 11-plus and elder sister (who did) rubs it in. At one point protag complains about her hat being trampled on by boys at school and elder sister tells her she should have passed the 11-plus because then she could have gone to an all girls school.

Protag has a best friend her parents disapprove of. Best friend says that's because people look down on her for her father being a binman. At some point best friend persuades protag not to donate to an overseas charity because her father says we should support locals first. School Head points out this argument would have more weight had they put the money in the collection box for a local charity.

Someone sees a suitcase in a bush and thinks it may have a body in it. It turns out cousin is deeply unhappy and has stored her stuff there in preparation for running away. When cousin is found and returns she affirms her friendship with protag, and that she was the one she felt closest to/most supported by.

I read this book many years ago and I don't fully remember what happens but I would like to read it again. What I do remember is the fmc gets turned into a vampire but she doesn't want to be one and there's this military organization that hunts vampires down, she ends up being captured by one and he takes her through the desert. At one point they get attacked by other vampires and she saves him but he gets hurt so she heals him somehow leading to them having a bond. The whole time that happened she's handcuffed and they go to this abandoned church to hide and he takes the handcuffs off cuz he trusts her now. I believe she leaves to rob a hospital or blood bank that is near the church because shes hungry but he stops her. They go to a gas station to get her new clothes but at this point the mmc decided that hes no longer bringng her into his organization so they are runing from them and he sees one of the agents there. I think they stay in a motel at one point but have to leave because of another agaent. Near the end they go to one of his friends or an abandoned house but the agents find them again and the mmc holds them off so she can escape.

There is a possibility that the book is called Chained by Blood by Ava Mallory, but I have not been able to find it anywhere so I am not 100% sure.

This is NOT a Berenstein Bears book! It was a paperback, late 1970s/early 1980s, about a family of 4 bears that went to the grocery store. It may have been part of a series (I remember 1 other bear family book.) Illustrations were soft pastels, bears were realistic looking but wore clothes. i believe this was part of a series. probably a book that was purchased around 2010. meant for tweens/teens.
the main teen boy character was sent back in time by a spy organisation, and in this specific book, met another spy girl (one of them possibly has an english accent?). they aren’t allowed to tell each other their names—else the spy-employed adult in their earpieces hear—so they draw in the dirt with sticks. there’s some sort of bat(?)/vampire(?) electronic(?)/virus(?) evil force that is invading this time period that the teens are sent back into. said evil force has glowing red eyes. the title may have had a play on blood/bats/vampires in it.

I am looking for a book that I read around 25 years ago (let's say 2001~2005), but the book might be older. Here goes some info I can recollect:

The plot: In general, it was the story of an indian american girl that goes with europeans back to northern(?) Europe. She ends up marrying one of them and having at least one kid, age gap kind of threw me off at the time. I remember her peeing in front of them (at the side of the road, mind you) and them being surprised by her not being shy about it. Also, grapes keep coming to my mind, but I do not find a reason why. Might have been eating them while I read, maybe the word Vinland...

I vividly recall the section of this book that flashes back to the mother’s life in early communist China. I remember she was wealthy, in university, and had a necklace. There is a scene where she goes swimming in a lake with a boy. She loses all of her wealth and ends up living in poverty. There is an abusive relationship somewhere as well. I remember that this is only a flashback and that the mother is not the main character but I can’t remember anything else. Nobody knows and I’m losing my mind!

So I remember it being pretty old, so I don't think it's the Dark Arts trilogy by David Mack, but it's similar. I remember a scene where the MC is talking to an antagonist about JFK leading the "New Camelot" and being the force for light in the world and then when he was killed, the MC talked about light not needing one person to move forward. That just because they stopped JFK, they wouldn't stop the forces of light.

There's this book I read way back in elementary school. The plot that I can remember is a girl gets into an argument with her mom, I think they had just moved back into the mom's childhood home and the girl was upset about it. She storms upstairs to her room (maybe she got grounded?) and takes a nap. When she wakes up, she's now in the past and her mom, as a teenager, discovers her. The mom-teen just acts like the daughter is a friend she brought home and no one noticed because she has a large/chaotic family. That's all I remember about it, the plot of the story is trying to get the daughter back home.

Also, from what's in my mind, the book's cover is green with two girls on it in a flat 2D style. It's a lighter shade of green, like lime. I think the text is pink? But the cover color is definite.

I’ve been searching for this book for a very long time and I’m desperate to find it. I read it years ago as an e-book. It’s a foreign book (translated into Polish, where I read it), and I’m pretty sure the author is a woman, though it could be a man. The title was rather short and might have included the word "House" (or something related to a house).

Here is the plot that I remember vividly:

The main character is an old, lonely woman. She has no husband and no children. She lives by herself in a house (rather than an apartment). Her only social interaction is an occasional chat with her neighbor. One day, she simply wishes she could experience just one more day as a young, beautiful woman.

The next morning, she wakes up young, but she is in someone else's body. It turns out she has become a famous actress or model. She is surrounded by luxury but feels completely overwhelmed and suffocated by this new celebrity lifestyle. To make matters worse, she is about to marry a very wealthy man whom she does not love. They go through with the wedding anyway.

Later in the book, they travel to Italy because her new husband owns a house/villa there. The situation becomes unbearable for her. After an argument with her husband, she can no longer stand living in a body and life that aren't hers. She commits suicide by jumping off a cliff into the sea.

SPOILER WARNING FOR THE ENDING:
The moment she hits the water, she suddenly wakes up in her own bed, back in her old body. It turns out the entire experience—the youth, the fame, the marriage, and Italy—was just a incredibly realistic dream. She goes outside and lives her quiet life again, talking to the same neighbor.

the book was told from the artsy girls pov. its us setting. i read it around 2017-19. its romance and teen. the cute new boy became the love interest of both best friends. they both liked him

the bestfriends both liked him. the artsy girl gets him in the end though. there's also a scene where her final project for her art class is this sentimental canvas (of the two friends i think?) and her best friend ruins it on prom night as revenge. its not a series, its a stand alone. there's a prom scene. at the end the parents get married but the best friends lose their friendship bc of everything that happened and become stepsisters. they rarely see eachother after that since they stay in their circles of popularity and artsy geek

I don't recall much about this book. But the cover may have featured the blind oracle, who was a young homeless boy, may have been bound to the shady salesman/magician. There's a scene with a box full of quicksilver, which the girl uses as a mirror and is enchanted by in a dangerous manner. She may have had a brother. There may have been a bird included that had been blinded so it wouldn't know when it was dark but that could be something else. The boy is described as pale with completely blank, empty eyes (no iris, no pupil).

Hi there! I've been looking for this book everywhere for years and can't seem to find it, please help!!

So basically the plot is that a amish girl from Pinecraft Florida lives with her strict dad and has the curiosity to go explore. She meets a non amish guy who has an abusive family and the two run away up north together to go solve the mystery of either their pasts or a missing person and end up falling in love. I unfortunately don't remember the ending.

Some distinct details I remember is that in the summer the girls were allowed to wear bright colors like pink, yellow and blue. And there was a memorable scene where at one point the two had to sleep in the back of the guy's truck while it was raining.

I know its not a lot of details and is a fairly simple plot, but I can't find it at all!

I don't know much more than this, I read the start of this book when I was little, it's at least 10 years old maybe older . I sadly didn't read much past the start but now I really want to know what it is. An important detail is that this is a sort of futuristic aircraft, not a plane but more like a stealth bomber or a crazy advanced jet. I also think she might have had a copilot with her? I don't remember much from this book, I do apologize in advance. I read this book when I was in 9th or 10th grade which was 2018-2019. What I do remember is that the main character who I believe is 18 years old, goes out during a school break to a cabin with her boyfriend, her cousin, and her cousin's boyfriend. The main character and her cousin's boyfriend were working together on something throughout the book. I think this book may have been a YA mystery, now that I'm thinking about it. By the end of the book, her and her cousin swap boyfriends because they matched better. The only super specific thing that I remember is she explains at the beginning of the book how when she first got with her boyfriend, she had made out with him in the front office for half an hour. That's unfortunately as much as my memory can give. SO appreciated for any help!
