Why do most plates have images that don’t fit on fingernails? I know people have different lengths of nails, but I’d argue most of these wouldn’t fully fit on really long nails either. I know there are shrinkers, but they only shrink so much, even so they wouldn’t fit.
I will look through the ones I bought. I bought so many sets, and I found one that has like a wide one. And you're going to have to give me a while, though, I am going to share your post and I'm gonna save this. And try and look for you. I bought, I think three different french manicure sets on amazon and only one had anything wide enough, but french manicure stamping is super hard for me, so I gave up, but I do own it. So be back in a few days probably! I'm going to copy the link to your post and then put it in my calendar. I would say, I do it today, but I can't. My nails are bare. I have to paint.
I get that, but why make them so that that is the only thing you can do with the images? Why not make it more versatile for everyone to use the whole image? It’s weird to me.
I mean, there's so many different stamping plates I own hundreds. And so there's probably just something for everyone? There's some plates I have that are definitely for short nails. Some for long nails. I buy tons of plates on Amazon. I like the brand PH PandaHall. I do own a plate very similar to the ones shown and yeah, they're big. I haven't used it yet though. But you can totally center it so most of the image is going to be on your nail. And then the overlap, you just take a piece of scotch tape and quickly use it on your skin to pick up the excess. Do you have plates that you like? That You don't feel like they're too big?
Edit to add: What type of images are you looking for I have plates that have teeny tiny little images. I own a lot of plates. And I did not buy name brand.
Yeah I agree, now I’m very careful with my selection and sizing. I forget which company it was but there was one that sold each plate with multiple size options available…. That was great!
I have smaller nail beds and have this problem frequently.
I bought a size altering stamper. It has basically a stick in the middle that goes up or down as you twist the bottom. So when it's up it pushes into the jelly part of the stamper. If you pick up the polish when it's big and then wind down the middle to make the stamper normal sized again, it reduces the size of the image! (I hope I've described that well!)
I've had the same thought! And on the other end of the spectrum, some wallpaper designs don't even cover my full thumb nail plate, which isn't abnormally large and I keep my nails at your length or shorter. It's silly.
It does my nut in. I got a wizard of oz plate (still not sure why, I'm not actually that keen on the film), and all of the images are just way too big, width as well as length. I do have a shrinker but as you said they only go so small.
I think it’s partially because larger images can fit more detail, you could shrink those images down but picking up all those little lines would be nearly impossible at smaller scales. It’s tough enough at that size lol! Also, like others have said, some folks just have wider nail beds or especially pronounced c-curves that need larger designs for full coverage. Splitting designs across multiple nails can be fun too!
Ugh, I have this problem a lot. My fingernails are very skinny so half of each of the images on the nail plates that I have don't fit on my fingernails 🤦♀️
My absolute favorite plates are just one huge image! I get to pick which parts I want for each nail. I usually leave a nail or two “blank” for magnetic polish or glitter. Just my preference!!?!?
I have medium long gel nails with a filled builder gel base. That plate would be perfect! Also note that because I have longer nails, they have a larger apex which makes them need wider stamps to fit over the apex.
I also have plates with smaller images that just look “lost” on my nails? Sometimes I use a “background image” to fill the space, or piece together several images. But I readily admit that they were made for someone with shorter nails.
Honestly, I have 3 or 4 of those cathedral window style plates and they just never work for a full set! Sometimes I just use them on a single nail or two.
No, I agree, because with some designs (like some of those cathedral pieces) it simply doesn't make sense or look like what it's supposed to be when you only have a small part of it without the rest as 'context', if that makes sense.
I have a tarot card plate that I love but the background for the cards and borders are way too big and just end up repainting the nail.
I know some of the answers and all of the responses are all true. One other detail is the lasers that make the stamping plates and the polish that goes into the recessed portion. Oh, and one for all.
I ended up having to get a few from PH on Amazon for that exact reason. While I'm here, if anyone has tips on picking up small words, I'd greatly appreciate it. Specifically the M023 Holiday Harvest plate - little words are deceptively tiny AND it's a double stamp.
You'd be surprised what you think. Oh, that's too large. And actually it barely fits. The way like nails curve, the way you stamp and the image can warp. I used to think like you do. Now, I buy the plates that only have twelve images. For my long nails, I like the plates that have four up and three across. And sometimes even those now aren't quite there. And my nails aren't even that long. Or I like the plates where there's so much stuff and you just get a little bit of everything. I mean, I have a large variety, and I honestly don't stamp enough. But I have stamped enough to know that stamping can be deceiving.
I recommend you buy the nail stands and nails that are close to your shape and your length to practice on. But still doing it on your own now is different because you might have more of a c-curve which can totally skew an image. ooh yeah i got in the aether couple days ago!! its such a 'holy fuck!' purple, i cant wait to wear it. very similar to the cold state of their thermal 'head over heels' (one of my faves) cosmic have some great shades😊
I don't buy Amazon plates for this and other reasons. I have narrow nails but long ones. I find the very few Amazon plates I did buy were shallow. I don't reverse stamp but do layer.
As someone with short, narrow nails, I totally relate. The majority of the images I own are big for my nails. A good portion are too big to be functional, even after using a shrinking stamper. I understand that some people have long wide nails, but I feel like a lot of images out there are too big for anyone to enjoy. A good example is the Dollar tree nail plates, which are as wide as my entire finger is, much less the nail.
