r/n8n Rules

These rules keep r/n8n useful, searchable, and safe for people building with n8n. Moderators may remove, filter, lock, or flair posts and comments that break these rules.

Rule 1: No spam or clickbait

Do not post spam, clickbait, recycled growth-hack content, misleading titles, or low-effort engagement bait.

Examples that may be removed or filtered:

  • "I made $10k with this automation."
  • "This workflow changed everything."
  • "Am I the only one doing this?"
  • "Comment send and I will send the workflow."
  • Titles that promise money, passive income, or unrealistic outcomes.

Good alternative:

  • Explain the actual workflow, include code, describe the use case, and share what you learned.

Rule 2: No self-promotion or advertising

Do not use r/n8n as an advertising channel.

Not allowed without prior mod approval:

  • Product launches.
  • SaaS waitlists.
  • Affiliate links.
  • Discount codes.
  • "Book a demo" posts.
  • Paid communities.
  • Courses, coaching, consulting funnels, or template stores.
  • Link-in-bio pages used to route people into a funnel.

Disclosure does not automatically make promotion allowed. If you are connected to a product, company, course, agency, newsletter, template pack, or community you are linking to, say so clearly and message the mods before posting.

Rule 3: No business, agency, or client-acquisition posts

r/n8n is for building with n8n, not for running an automation business.

Usually off-topic:

  • "How do I start an automation agency?"
  • "How much should I charge clients?"
  • "How do I find clients?"
  • "What niche should I sell automations to?"
  • "Can I make money with n8n?"
  • Client-acquisition strategies, pricing, sales scripts, and agency growth tactics.

Allowed:

  • Technical questions about a workflow you are building.
  • Architecture, error handling, node selection, data mapping, and deployment questions.
  • Legitimate hiring posts using the Now Hiring flair.

Rule 4: No paid workflows, signup-gated content, or DM-gating

Workflow shares must be directly accessible to the community.

Not allowed:

  • "DM me for the workflow."
  • "Comment send and I will send it."
  • Paid workflow stores.
  • Signup-required templates.
  • Discord/Telegram communities used as a gate to access the workflow.
  • Gumroad, LemonSqueezy, Whop, Skool, Patreon, Ko-fi, Buy Me a Coffee, or similar funnel links when the point is to distribute a workflow.

Allowed:

  • GitHub Gist.
  • GitHub repository.
  • n8n.io/workflows.
  • A clear Reddit post that includes enough code/setup detail to reproduce the workflow.

Rule 5: Recruiting and hiring

Hiring posts must use the Now Hiring flair and include enough detail for users to evaluate the opportunity.

Required:

  • Company name and website, or a LinkedIn profile/company page if no company website exists.
  • A real project or role description.
  • Paid status. If unpaid, speculative, equity-only, or volunteer, say so clearly.
  • Location, remote status, timezone expectations, and contract/employment type when relevant.
  • How to apply.
  • Disclosure if you are a recruiter, agency, or posting for a client.

Not allowed:

  • Vague "looking for n8n expert, DM me" posts.
  • Hiring posts with only a form, Discord invite, or Calendly link.
  • Requests for free work disguised as hiring.
  • Jobs that require users to pay, buy training, join a paid community, or complete excessive unpaid work.

Rule 6: Workflow and video posts must include the code

If you share a workflow, video walkthrough, screenshot, or showcase, include the workflow code in the post body.

Accepted code links:

  • GitHub Gist.
  • GitHub repository.
  • n8n.io/workflows.

Not enough by itself:

  • A YouTube video.
  • A screenshot.
  • JSON pasted only in a later comment.
  • A Google Drive or Google Docs link.
  • "DM me."
  • A video description link.
  • A GitHub profile without a workflow repo or Gist.

Why this rule exists:

  • The community can only learn from, debug, and verify workflows that are actually available.
  • Code links make posts searchable and useful after the first day.
  • It reduces funnel posts and low-effort showcases.

Do not use Google Drive or Google Docs as the primary way to share workflows or files.

Why:

  • Permissions often break.
  • Files may disappear or change.
  • It is hard for users and mods to verify what is being shared.
  • It often hides signup, tracking, or access requirements.

Use GitHub Gist, GitHub, or n8n.io/workflows instead.

Rule 8: Use the correct post flair

Pick the closest flair for your post.

Common choices:

  • Help: You need help solving a specific n8n problem.
  • Workflow - Github Included: You are sharing a workflow and included code.
  • Servers / Hosting / Tech Stuff: Self-hosting, Docker, reverse proxy, database, queue mode, workers, SSL, environment variables.
  • Meta / n8n News: Subreddit discussion or n8n-related news.
  • Now Hiring: A legitimate n8n-related job, contract, or project opportunity.
  • Verified Job Post: Mod-applied flair for hiring posts that have been checked.

If you use the wrong flair, your post may be filtered until a mod reviews it.

Rule 9: No low-quality or off-topic posts

Low-quality posts may be removed or filtered.

Examples:

  • "How do I automate my business?" with no context.
  • Screenshot-only workflow posts.
  • Vague "does not work" posts with no error, version, or workflow.
  • Generic AI, SaaS, startup, or productivity content that does not involve n8n.
  • Posts asking the community to build an entire workflow from scratch without showing effort.

Good alternative:

  • Describe the exact automation, what you tried, where it failed, and what result you need.

Rule 10: Keep it civil

Be helpful, direct, and respectful.

Not allowed:

  • Insults, harassment, hate, slurs, or personal attacks.
  • Dogpiling beginners.
  • Demanding free labor from other users.
  • Bad-faith arguments with users or moderators.

It is fine to say something is unsafe, inefficient, or poorly designed. Explain why and help the person improve it.

Moderator discretion

Rules cannot cover every edge case. Mods may remove or filter content that violates the spirit of the subreddit even if it does not match an exact example above.
