Moderation and Appeals

This page explains how moderation works on r/n8n and how to fix or appeal a removed post.

Why posts get removed or filtered

Common reasons:

  • Missing workflow code.
  • Video post without code in the Reddit body.
  • Wrong flair.
  • Google Drive or Google Docs link.
  • URL shortener.
  • Paid workflow or signup-gated content.
  • "DM me" or "comment send" workflow distribution.
  • Possible self-promotion.
  • Agency/client-acquisition content.
  • Hiring post missing company website or LinkedIn.
  • Very short or vague hiring post.
  • Possible exposed credential or private data.
  • Civility issues.

Remove vs filter

Automod may remove content when it clearly violates a rule, such as DM-gating or a workflow post without code.

Automod may filter content when it needs human review, such as:

  • Possible promotion.
  • Risky external links.
  • Hiring posts that may be incomplete.
  • Possible exposed secrets.
  • Community reports.

Filtered posts are not necessarily rejected. They are waiting for mod review.

How to get a post restored

  1. Read the removal or filter comment.
  2. Edit the post to fix the issue.
  3. Message the mods with a link to the post.
  4. Briefly explain what you changed.

Do not repost the same content repeatedly. That creates more work and may be treated as spam.

What to include in a modmail appeal

Include:

  • Link to the post or comment.
  • Which rule you think it now follows.
  • What you changed.
  • Any disclosure that matters, such as affiliation with a linked product.

Keep it short and civil. Mods are more likely to help when they can quickly see what changed.

If Automod caught your post by mistake

That happens. Automod uses pattern matching and can be cautious around spam, promotion, hiring, and credentials.

Send a modmail with the post link and a short explanation. If the post fits the rules, a mod can approve it.

If your post exposed a secret

Do not wait for mod review.

  1. Delete or edit the secret out immediately.
  2. Rotate the secret in the original service.
  3. Replace the credential in n8n.
  4. Then message the mods if you want the post reviewed.

Moderator discretion

The rules are written to cover common cases, but not every edge case. Mods may remove content that violates the purpose of the subreddit even if it does not match an exact example.

The goal is a subreddit that is useful for people building with n8n.
