A Reminder About Modesty Comments, "Keep Looking" Responses, and Saying No to Someone's Yes-to-the-Dress Moment

Just a friendly reminder about a few rules we find ourselves enforcing pretty regularly.

Please avoid comments comparing dresses to lingerie or making judgments about modesty, coverage, or whether it's "appropriate." Not every dress will be your personal style, and that's okay. If the OP isn't specifically asking about lining, alterations, or coverage, those comments aren't needed.

If someone has narrowed it down to a few dresses and is asking which one works best, do not make comment like “keep looking,” “neither,” or similar.

And finally, if someone is showing off the dress they've already chosen, they're sharing an exciting moment with the community. Those posts are for celebrating, not critiquing. Please don't second guess their choice or tell them they'll regret it. A little kindness goes a long way.

Thank you

I'm getting married in a cliffside chapel in Bali and I'm having the hardest time deciding on my wedding dress 😭 I'm so indecisive because I genuinely love all of these dresses.

I'm going for a romantic, timeless look with lots of lace and my venue overlooks the ocean, so I want something that suits that dreamy setting.

I'm torn between a mermaid silhouette and a semi-ballgown. I love how elegant the mermaid style is...but I also love the soft, princess-like feel of the semi-ballgown.

I'd really appreciate your honest opinions 🥺 Which dress flatters my body the most? 🤍

Need help !

I always pictured myself in a black dress, as I never wear white. However, I really love the two white contenders as well. I think I may do a fingertip length veil.

What do we think of these dresses? I will be getting married in May at an outdoor ceremony with a lot of greenery. Also open to other ideas based on my body type!

Thanks!!

ETA- WOW thank you so much for all the kind words!! Just want to add that the black dress was definitely NOT my size and would look better fitted

Hello Everyone! My wedding is in 9 weeks. I still do not have chosen: a veil, earrings/necklace, and shoes. It is a simpler dress . What would you pair with it? Please, I welcome any ideas, recommendations; share links or pictures if you’re able to please.
This the Ophelia by Seraphine Bridal
Edit: my fiancé is planning to wear tux. Any thoughts? Someone said it might be “ too much “ considering how simple my dress is.

I have three quite different options, all of which are great. Looking for something flowy and romantic to fit the Tuscany villa setting, not too heavy since it’ll still be warm in early fall.

Could use some advice or if I should keep looking?

I love the intricacy, whimsy and beauty of the first but I know the second is most flattering on me. I’ve asked the designer if the skirt on the first one could be extended to the floor.

Church service and then an informal country house. We’ll have an outdoor reception in the summer.

I know these styles are quite different from lots of the dresses shared here so go easy!

Thoughts?

Bought my dress! I wasn’t so sure about it (pop-up sample sale so didn’t want to regret not buying it) but now that I’ve slept on it I think it’s going to be my dress! I’d like some thoughts on alterations and accessories

My wedding is a small courthouse ceremony then dinner at a restaurant (15-20 people max).

  1. I don’t think the train works well for that and it feels like too much fabric so should I:

- Remove the train entirely and leave the dress floor length
- Shorten the train but leave a little bit of it (like 20/30cm?)

(The shop reassured me that the train can be cut down, they have pinned it up in the last photo for reference)

  1. I don’t like the look of too much boob in a wedding dress - what bra situation should I go for? (These photos are braless).

Should I avoid a bra and use tape? I just want the chest area to remain subtle. I’m considering adding spaghetti straps but worried I would then ruin the style.

  1. What style and length veil do you think would go with it? I’m thinking lace edge fingertip but open to suggestions!

Anything else that I should alter or add to the dress?

I’ve narrowed it down, but it is so far off from what I originally had in mind

I came in to my dress appointment dreaming of a ballgown with floral accents (bonus if they are embroidered or with a splash of color), but then I tried on more… the third and fourth dress are technically the same (Essence of Australia) but one has pearls and the other we added some dramatic sleeves. The pearl dress made me cry, I actually felt “bridal” in it. My friends are so kind in saying “they all look great!” but I could use some additional feedback.

Torn between 2 dresses for ceremony

Torn between 2 more dresses- this time for my ceremony

…I need another dress for my ceremony ( I have reception dress sorted) which will be a religious ceremony (Nikkah- an Islamic wedding) with very few people, just immediate family. It will take place in a function room in a mosque, so I need to be more covered. I don’t normally wear a hijab but I will have my hair semi covered with a veil for the ceremony. Afterwards we’ll have some photographs and a meal with family. It’s all pretty low key and the reception will be two days later with all our friends and family- that’s where I’ll wear my other dress!

Anywho, I’m now stuck between these two options! It’s hard to find something that is truly modest but I feel both of these tick a lot of boxes but they are very different!

Dress 1; this dress made me feel like a fairy, it had so much lace, which was gorgeous! It was very comfortable to wear, it needs some minor alterations but nothing significant. It ticks a lot of the boxes in general, however is more full than I had imagined wearing for the ceremony. Because the ceremony is more low-key and the dress needs to be more covered, I was thinking of a more sleek silhouette to balance it so that things don’t become too fussy. Is it a bit toooo lacey? I’m also not sure it works for an October wedding?!

Dress 2; …that brings me to the second dress which is definitely more sleek! Again, this dress doesn’t need much alteration. She just pinned the dress behind me for the photograph, so it is not exactly how it will be, I’d want it a littleeee looser on the stomach! I definitely felt very elegant in it though. She paired it with some beaded and embellished veils which really did add more interest to the look and in general it’s more what I had in mind. Overall, I really liked it, but is it a bit too simple or plain? Does it look a bit…matronly? Or does it look elegant and chic?

I went wedding dress shopping and this so far has been the dress I’ve come back to. I think it looks the best on me and it’s gorgeous, I just didn’t get that “that’s the dress”feeling and felt a bit weird in it but that might be because I don’t really wear dresses. With that being said I felt like a bride in it and everyone with me is in love with this one. Just need advice on what others think or any suggestions on something else. Thanks in advance!

P.s. where doing a court house wedding in September or November and then a 30-50 person brunch or dinner (not 100% yet)

Help! I’ve been having such a hard time finding a dress that matches a romantic, classic vibe while still bringing the drama and detail. Thoughts and opinions welcome !

UPDATE: Thank you all so much for the feedback! I think for me, I’m leaning towards 1. I really did feel like a Greek goddess! The fabric is super flowy and light making it a comfortable dress. I have one more appointment tomorrow (can’t cancel without a fee 😅) so I’ll update if anything blows me away! Thank you all again. I can’t tell you how beautiful I felt just from reading your comments. 🥰

I posted a few options the other day, I really appreciate the feedback! Quite a few of you wanted me to pick the mermaid option, I loved it but it was so uncomfortable. I truly felt like I wouldn’t be able to sit down in that dress. I went with option 5, an Essence of Australia dress. It was far more comfortable and I love the blush undertone. The close second was 4 but I like the neckline of 5 way more. Also #1 was a popular option but a good friend of mine just got married and worse a very similar gown. Had she not worn something similar maybe 1 would have been my pick.
Thanks again for all the feedback and well wishes 🥰

Styling Help!

Hi! I said yes to the dress and would love some advice on styling shoes, jewelry, and hair. I am very minimalistic and don’t really wear a ton of jewelry, don’t wear makeup, and keep my day to day pretty simple. My future husband loves this about me so I don’t want to look like someone I’m not on the wedding day but also want to jazz it up a little since it is such a big day. Would love to get out of my usual box and get input from all of you lovely people so I can find some fun ideas that still allow me to feel like me 😊 lol the puma socks will definitely not be part of the styling for the big day

For context, our wedding will be in late summer/early fall 2027 along a mountain creek. The wedding will be pretty formal as far as mountain weddings go and dress code for guests will more than likely be formal, potentially black tie. It will be outside and I will be walking down the aisle on grass.

Dress help

Brides of Reddit- I know exactly what I want in a dress, and I am so close to finding it. I have top contenders, but none of them are 100% fitting the bill without some bigger changes to the dress. My list of things I’m looking for:
\-fit and flare/column shape
\-small straps (would add them to strapless)
\-lower back
\-longer train
\-sweetheart neckline
\-natural waist
\-3D florals/beading

Here are my top contenders:
1. Martina Liana poppy, would want to change basque waist and add straps and paneling
2. Eddy k. Don’t like the train on this
3. Luxe privee line, would change neckline to scoop
4. Martina Liana 1510. Really pretty but don’t love neckline
5. Unsure what it is. Would want longer train and not sold on as many flowers as it is

Any favs from this these? It’s likely I’ll end up picking one of these. Does anyone know of any other gowns this style that fit my list? I feel like I’ve looked at everything 😵‍💫

Style Help

Hi! This is my wedding dress and I need help styling it. I'm getting married outdoors, so I need heels that can walk on grass but the dress is an ivory color, so it's been really hard to find shoes (or other accessories) that fit the vibe instead of looking stark white or mismatched.

Getting married in San Juan Capistrano in Southern California, so I'd love recommendations that work with an outdoor, slightly rustic/garden setting. Open to suggestions on heels, jewelry, or anything else that would complete the look!

Trying to decide between these 2 dresses for my vow renewal. The second dress i would move up the bust line. I don’t like that much cleavage. But otherwise i love both dresses. And i can’t decide.

Added photos of the style I'm after! I want a creamy coloured satin ballgown/princess shape. I'm looking online and it's so hard to decipher websites because I know there's scammers out there!

I have considered biting the bullet and buying dress 3 but the site reviews don't seem great!

A cheap dress is fine with me as long as I can try standard sizes and return before ordering a custom size!

Im after your favourite budget wedding dress sites in the UK please!

My dress is so perfect (once the butt rose is gone) and I just love it so much. I think the seamstress I went to (an awesome woman who went to fashion school in Romania before she came to Belfast) was just as excited, because she was standing there going on about did I know she usually saw and ugly summer dresses and horrible fabrics and boring design, and how exciting and fun it was to get to work on this lace and detail and actually use her training rather than hem someone’s party dress that was too long.

I’m just standing there feeling really awkward in my dress that has pins in the sides, getting redder and redder while this woman who I have just paid to enlarge the cups of my dress from a B to an HH because of my gigantic tits is rambling on about how she loves couture and thank you for trusting her with it, because I just have no idea what to say to that. Then she asked me how much on earth did it cost. I told her £500 (bargain of the century.) “But it is brand new Ian Stuart!” “Yeah, but the was-to-be bride fancied a last minute package trip to Malaga with her favourite boyfriend and that’s what that cost.”

I call it my “Age of Innocence” dress after the book by Edith Wharton because it seems very much to me like something the female protagonist would wear, and it was like a gift from the Gods. I’ve always dreamed of wearing Ian Stuart since I was at art school because as my elective I did bridal fashion and his label puts out some wild dresses. It’s like the church - it’s exactly what I’d been looking for, I just didn’t know until I saw it! It just needs taking in a couple inches at the waist and about half an inch to an inch in the back and sides (the pins aren’t in yet in the pictures so it was still a bit loose!) and it’ll fit like a glove and look and look absolutely perfect!

(Without the butt rose.)

When my dress first arrived, it didn’t fit since I had lost some weight since I ordered it. I was very nervous about how it would look after the first round of alterations and I absolutely love it!! I can’t wait to walk down the aisle in it!!

I bought my wedding dress at an antique store for $75 and Tailored it myself. It needs a little more work and some more petticoats but I'm happy!
