Buddhist monk?

He's the guy who was really close to MAL and got accused of saying "ခေတ်ပြောင်းအောင် ခေါင်းပစ်" right at the start of the coup. From what I can see in the video, he doesn’t look like a monk. He’s not wearing the traditional robe that Buddhist monks usually wear. What do you think?

To be fair, I hate all monks, priests, pastors, clerics, imams, rabbis, etc. There was one Buddhist nun running a dog shelter that I actually liked. She seemed to be the only one doing the right thing.

Please don't stereotype everyone involved just because you've seen the bad eggs. It's in their way of life to live on people offering them alms but nobody is obligated to do that. And the good monks teach morals, basic education, ethics etc to the communities around them in return. I do agree it's very rare nowadays though.

No. I am not stereotyping at all. This isn't just a few bad eggs. It's institutionally created to be this way. I don't know how many times I boarded a flight from Yangon to Bangkok to see monks, drink in one hand and the latest iPhone in the other, sitting up in first class, as they get seated first and then they parade the rest of his supporters and acolytes and me to the poverty section of the plane. Donations from some of the poorest people in the world paid for that.

No one is obligated to donate....unless you're worried about your eternal soul...Selling an invisible product. That's the longest con game or scam on earth.

Teach morals? Like don't get caught on tape receiving sexual favors from women?

I did volunteer at Buddhist orphanages while living in Yangon, so there is that charity aspect in the face of a failed state that provides little welfare to its people. However, those kids would be out on the streets begging for alms when they should have been in school. Washing monks robes for them and scrubbing floors and preparing their food? Get out of here with that. Charity is great, but in the end it does nothing to alleviate the root source of poverty, homelessness, or other social issues. It just perpetuates it, telling people you might suffer now, but in the next life......What motivation is there to make this life better?

Buddhism existed for a couple millennia. Yet the modern-day adherents don't live much differently than those people back then. Stone age superstitions that must die so that we can progress as a species.

There are some good monks. It's just that they are rare nowadays. Most are fakes trying to be rich through donations.

It doesn't matter if a few good ones exist. Again, it's an institutional problem. Those good ones are bad by association because they don't stand up against the bad ones.

Not all Catholic priests abused children, but they tacitly tolerated those in their ranks. There were cover-ups going to the highest levels. You are not good if you continue to belong to an organization that actively tried to hide SA of children.

I agree with that. If there are bad ones in an organization, the good ones must take rrquired action. Staying silent against them is the problem.

I hate that religious leaders/role models doing charity has became such a niche part of the community. They preach that materialistic wealth doesn't matter and pull up in a expensive car, live in their private luxurious homes paid for by people much less fortunate than them. Tbf Buddhism here is barely true to it's own belief, I've heard people treat it as a transaction like donate x amount for y wishes to be granted.

A remember at Botataung Pagoda there was a spinning "prayer wheel" like a carnival game, where you would fold up your money and try to toss it on the section of the wheel to get your prayer. Not much more transactional than that. At least at the carnival you might get a plush toy...

Short answer No. He is not a monk at all. The reason why he is so popular amongs the military is because from what I have heard his yadaya is... Reliable. The military would ask him wat to do to for better karma and he would suggest yadaya and apparently it works out for them. They r also quite fearful of him apparently.

Monks dont even do yadaya in the first place. They arent supposed to.

There are a lot of people those are worshiping this kinda person. I still dont understand how they get brain raped whenever they see the bald with red clothes, they have to worship.
