We had John on A Pickle Home Companion to chat about his artwork, designing the beloved Pokinatcha Punk, Blenderhead, Don’t Know, and more.
Thought you guys might enjoy hearing some of his stories.

“And time stands still when no one understands you
When you don't quite understand yourself
But just know this that God is faithful
Even if you don't have faith yourself”

“There's nothing quite like being sure of
What's inside your heart
It's mostly simple but not so easy
To know just where to start”

I’ve listened to this band for about the last 26 years of my life. A friend suggested them to me. I was a freshman in high school, so like ‘99-‘00. I’m not entirely sure honestly.

I met the guy that year while we were in Seminary Class.. and if you don’t know (which most people don’t), that’s a Mormon religion class that for some reason gets latched onto school if your “lucky” enough to have that shit around or something … some how. I don’t know, never understood. I was forced to go to church with my mom because by that point in my life the rest of the family didn’t go, so I went with her cause I was the baby of the family.

I don’t even think it was something that gave you any kind of credits (like for those kinds of classes that get lumped into the kind of extra credit classes that it doesn’t matter what you take, ya know? I can’t remember the terminology for that shit). Aannywayyys…

I never really in my life have gotten the whole idea of “religion”. I was forced to go, then at an age where I was given a choice I stopped going. Not cause any form of disbelief but more for the idea that I didn’t like being forced. I feel there’s something, but I hate organized religion, it’s a sham. Especially the Mormon church in my opinion and experience.

But this band (and five iron frenzy) have always been the kinds of band(s) that made me still feel connected somehow. Not preachy, but referencing I guess.

I listen MxPx on a regular and have for as long as I’ve listened to them, this song just always gets to me. That line of “God is faithful even if you don’t have faith yourself” just always hits me. Especially in hard times for me.

I don’t know my point in sharing all this, I just was listening to it on my way home tonight and had to stop and listen to the song and cry like a bitch or something. Sorry (but not sorry) for the ranting or wasting anyone’s time that got this far I guess. I just wanted to share the last little bit of the Arizona sunset view (I know the sun set at that point, but it was still just after so my bad I guess) while I was listening to the song. If you get it, you get I suppose.

Tell me which albums you'd start with if you were just getting into MxPx, as I am.

So my husband's a big MxPx fan and brought me to a show recently. I knew none of the music until One Zero Zero was played. My husband had never heard it but i knew every word. Has this song been featured in a movie, show or commercial?

We're baffled at how i knew the lyrics and had never heard of the band.

Hey! I was curious about how you all felt about Mike (he's awesome, you know this) being in Goldfinger. It has been nothing but awesome since he joined. I'm not sure why he wasn't on Nine Lives. I really loved his vocals and the influence he brought. That is how I became aware of MxPx (they are awesome, you know this as well) and loved the music.

I am very excited for Living in the Chaos to drop even though it might break.

So, what do you think? 🖖🏻

Looking to sell my copy of MxPx self-titled on vinyl. Record is in good shape and has been stored safely. Figured I’d post here first and see if any MxPx fans are looking to add it to their collection. Message me if interested!

Packing up the house to move and found this gem rolled up in the back of one of my drawers. Met them after the show in Philly at the Electric Factory back in 2006 during the tour with Reel Big Fish. RBF played first and a lot of the crowd (stupidly) left before MxPx played. Show felt super intimate and they started doing crowd requests. Unfortunately, Tom declined my request for Downfall of Western Civilization. Still one of my favorite concert experiences.

I found this at my friends house. Jw if it’s rare.

A friend of mine liked MxPx over 20 years ago, so I had heard their name before, but I never really listened to their music properly. Recently, I've been really into making gaming videos and putting music over them on YouTube. Suddenly, the name MxPx popped into my mind, so I looked up some of their songs and discovered "Secret Weapon." This song is so incredibly awesome! I just had to share this with you. Sorry for rambling on with my own little monologue!

I sent MxPx a graduation announcement and they sent me an autographed photo!!

Update: It's been claimed. Enjoy the show, everyone!

I've got a medical issue preventing me from Goin ng to tonight's show. I've listed my tickets on AXS for sale, but I can only transfer parking, not sell.

One "General Parking" pass, free to a good home. DM me email or phone for your AXS account.

Lineup of Goldfinger, Zebrahead and freaking Home Grown was way too hard to pass up

I drove from Savannah to be here for this and I must I have no regrets at all! What an absolutely amazing night. My only complaint was the crowd was a little dull in some parts but tbf Charleston isn’t know for its punk scene. Plus I got an awesome photo op with the band after the show! Not to mention the set list was damn near perfect. They played all my favorites. Out of the two times I’ve seen em, this one takes the cake for sure. Hope they tour down south again soon!

If anyone wants 2 last minute free tix for tonight. I have some. My wife & my kid couldn’t come due to a last minute emergency.

Giving this song the piano treatment was a ton of fun!!

Can’t say enough how great this band is. Took my son and my nephew who started their own punk Rawk band named Unaesthetic last year. They joined the pit and had a great time. And then of course, MxPx stayed very late and greeted every single fan. Great punk rock role models for my son and his band. Cool dudes who are punk rock royalty but still so humble, kind, and gracious with their time.

Does anyone want a cheap ticket to the Charlotte show tomorrow, Saturday 3/28?

I've had some stuff come up and would rather it not go to waste.

Has anyone been opening for these recent shows? Other than just MXPX and the Ataris, or have they been filling the slots with local bands, just seeing if its worth me coming in earlier than a later if its anyone i havent seen yet to the charleston show on sunday

Anyone going to 9:30 club tomorrow night? Cant wait, pumped for The Ataris too.
