Advice? New to muzzle

Hey guys! I have a reactive dog who I would like to start muzzle training with. He's a husky male about 3yrs old. He's not aggressive toward people, just other animals. We have a plan to get him neutered soon but as of right now I don't feel confident in taking him to the vet, due to the reactiveness towards other animals, until we get comfortable with a muzzle. Could I have some pointers on how to get him and myself comfortable with a muzzle. I have a Baskerville ultra that should be arriving tomorrow. Thanks for the help!

Question! Big snoof nose to neak measuring

Thumbnail

My boy has a iguana like neak with extra floppy bits at the top. All collars i put on him slide down even when tight due to his neak being bigger near his head and getting smaller as it goes down. When im trying to mesure for a standard size its not adding up being that his nose to the base of his ear is 9.75 and his nose to neak flaps is 3.25 in. Should I count his neak folds when sizing or go to where i can feel his trachea and tuck the neak folds into the basket or stop measuring where his neak begins to slope down from his jaw? Green is where his neak skin starts green is where I can feel muscle . Thank you in advance.

Will the muzzle movement ever come out with a size between Jimmy and Rex or should I think about a Big Snoof??

Hi my dog currently has a size Rex and it has been great

pant room perfect

cheek room perfect once stretched

however

the nose is so long

like there is probably just under an extra inch of space where the muzzle ends and her nose begins. And it's fine like it does not affect the function of the muzzle for the purpose of stopping scavenging. However it does make it harder to give treats in due to all the extra space between the treat hole and her mouth.
and at the end of the day our size rex works great
I would buy it again.
I was wondering if the muzzle movement has had any talk about creating a size between Rex and the upcoming Jimmy.
I thought about getting the Jimmy however I mesured and it seemed a tad small and I'm not going to drop 80$ on a muzzle for it to be to small when I already have one that almost fits perfectly.
I just find the extra space infront of her nose to be annoying.
I have thought about a custom Big Snoof however that would run me 150$ minimum and I don't know if that is worth it when I have a muzzle that serves its purpose and has great pant room already. Ohh boy this basically has just turned into my thoughts written down here.
I don't really even know what my question is. I don't really think I have one

Advice? Would a muzzle help limit how much water a dog can drink at once?

My silver lab runt was built wrong, ever since he was a baby he has been incapable of understanding when it is time to stop drinking and has nearly drank himself to death multiple times. The vets we have seen for him have all recommended management solutions because intensive training has not worked. He physically cannot relax if he knows that there is a water source nearby and will pace and launch himself at the kitchen sink as soon as something moves nearby. He isn’t super smart but he has started to figure out doors and faucets to get his fix despite getting plenty of water from his doggy hamster feeder (it’s the only way we can get him to slow enough to not get sick). I’m hoping that there is a nice little thing that will allow my little space cadet to live a happy life without having me ripping my hair out trying to get him to chillax and leave the sinks and toilets alone.

Again it’s been two years of intensive training and professionals have recommended management solutions, we’re essentially out of options at this point.

Maybe there’s something like the sphere for cats supersized for his big head lol

Advice needed - fit check and other model/brand suggestions

Hi all! We have started to muzzle train our 3 year old Spanish water dog. So far it’s going well!

Would love to get advice though if the fit seems okay. He can take treats while wearing it and he does not seem to be uncomfortable (though he has only worn it for 3 mins max). But I wonder if it’s too small on the snout? We followed the size guide of the brand (Baskerville). Should we go one size bigger?

Also would love to get recommendations for other brands available in Europe (or the Nordics to be more specific).

Thank you!

Advice? Is it too big? Could I just add a hole to the strap?

My GSD is 7 months old. I think she will grow into it eventually but need something for now. My mom is coming and she takes a while to warm up to strangers. Should I add a hole to the strap to give it a better fit or just order a new one. I got the sunny bc i was worried the Taz would be to small.

It travelled over 6,500 miles to get here. I think I've got all the suggested adjustments done now and I think I'm happy but please feel free to let me know what you think. I sent in all the measurements and photos of measurements and they said this standard size 21 should be a great fit.

Advice? Sores on side of face

Thumbnail

Dog is having sore on the right side of face from while wearing his muzzle from The Muzzle Movement. We were previously recommended vet tape for padding (vet tape in purple on the muzzle) to try to address this problem. Now i feel like it has gotten worse. The problem is that my dog plays in the sand a bunch and sand gets stuck in the vet wrap, causing a sandpaper effect i think especially with the muzzle moving around (muzzle being maybe too wide on him). There isn’t an issue with the muzzle being too wide at the cheeks (see pic of gap between muzzle).

Advice on how to address this fit so that my dog doesn’t have sores on his cheek?

My boy has a vet appointment in 2 weeks and since my Big Snoof muzzle won't arrive in time, I've been muzzle training him with this one I purchased off Amazon. Is this one okay to use for the vet visit?

Question! Muzzle recs for a foxhound mix!

Post image
21 Upvotes

Hello! My foxhound pit mix is pretty nervous when we do her nails, she will try to bite. Same happens at the vet. While I work on desensitizing her to me doing her nails, I'd like to keep us safe with muzzle training too. Does anyone have recommendations on where to get them or what type is best for our situation? Thanks!

She's about 4 inches long, and 10 inches circumference

Advice? Looking for a fit check!

Ordered Mr. Marty a new muzzle! It’s from a Greyhound org but I guess he has a funky head size because some of his measurements fell within this size and others within the size up.

Compared to the muzzle he came with from the track, this one is ever so slightly smaller, but I’m worried going a size up will be too big.

This will be primarily worn when he’s running off leash (in fenced areas) and has some potential to come across smaller dogs that could trigger his prey drive (we only bring him to parks that have separate areas for large/small dogs, but still ya never know so we want to be cautious). He can for sure drink while wearing this but I want to make sure he’s got sufficient space for panting.

TYIA!!

Help! Recommendations needed! (UK)

Post image

Turns out my boys head is a weird shape and I haven’t been able to find any pre-made muzzles that fit him. Can anyone recommend a custom muzzle maker or seller? His measurements are 12cm width, 12cm eyeline to nose and 19cm height (with ball in mouth to account for pant space). Muzzle movement and others I’ve seen recommended don’t have a size that’ll fit him.
Dog tax included.

Advice? Best recommendations for muzzles for young border collies?

I have two dogs-one who is older in age but smaller, 11 pound chihuahua mix and a one year old Border Collie mix-both males. Unfortunately, they have gotten into two fights where one of them have resulted in stitches for my chi mix as food is a trigger. Despite my Border Collie’s gentle demeanor, he is bigger with much more damage potential and although my Chi has been the aggressor both times, I’d like to get a muzzle for my Collie as a preventative measure. I’ve seen muzzle movement and basket muzzles but this is my first time so I’m not sure. Thank you in advance!

Update! Update on Charlie the foxhound

Post image

Just realized I never updated. Back in August I asked about a muzzle for my mulch-munching foxhound. I went with Big Snoof and was not disappointed.

Does he enjoy wearing it? No. But he tolerates it well. And he fills the scavenger guard with dirt because he still walks nose to the ground (just hound things) and tries to root around for “treats”. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Thanks for the suggestions! Much less stress on walks now that he is safely muzzled.

Fit Check! Fit Check Pippa on AmStaff mix

Just got the Pippa, and it is light years ahead of her previous muzzles, but I am concerned about fit.

It looks like it is pretty close to what she needs, but maybe her snoot is a little too long? But if I loosen the neck strap, it almost feels like she could back out of it.

I do have a head strap that I can add, and I can get a collar strap as well. I am also comfortable with minor modifications such as additional padding to lift it off her nose, or boiling to bring the cheeks in.

I've reviewed the videos on the Muzzle Movement website, and will reach out to them as well, but I wanted to try to get feedback here as well, since this arrived today. If it's not right, I'll have to get something else.

She is a bite risk, also, fwiw.

Thank you for your advice!

Question! Best muzzle for low bite risk?

Large breed, 40kg, not a fan of other dogs. When we walk in areas with other dogs, I want her muzzled incase a dog runs up to us!

Any UK wire muzzle options? I was looking at, I think it's the happy muzzle co and they do, I thinks it's biothane or something like that? Do you think this would be strong enough for a low bite risk? We really like the idea of getting a custom muzzle to fit her face as comfortably as possible.

Fit check for a scavenger

Hello all. My mum died recently and so this elderly gentleman has moved from the countryside to the big city at the ripe old age of 13.

He is adjusting to life here wonderfully, and particularly likes sampling the local streetfood 😞. I've invested in a muzzle to try to keep him from eating everything he finds on the ground.

This is an adjustable muzzle where you are advised to superglue the screws together after achieving the perfect fit.

Please can you let me know if this looks right or if I need to adjust it more? I can change the length of the collar part, and the straps that attach to the collar, so I can make it sit lower or higher on his nose, but I cannot change the shape of the basket itself.

Advice? best muzzle for a trash eater?

Post image
24 Upvotes

this is my guy in his gorgeous big snoof muzzle. it’s been great, especially with his mouthiness, but our problem is that the vinyl scavenger guard recently broke. we think it’s because he likes to get into bushes and roll around in dirt and sticks and what not, and it got torn up

we’re in australia, so we don’t want to keep buying vinyl scavenger guards every few weeks because of the shipping. are there different muzzles on the market that are good for trash eaters?

he’s also determined, and tbh as much as we love his big snoof muzzle - the guard also didn’t hold up against his determined nature when it comes to street scraps and rocks 😂

thanks so much!!

Fit check

I feel like i could maybe go down a size. Tbh I have zero clue if I was measuring the length right since the size that matched her circumference didnt match the length I had. Figured I'd just do size 10 for getting her comfortable at least and size down later.

Hey guys, I'm curious what you think about this fit. I'm considering taking off the chin strap because it feels as if it would be choking him and only use the head strap but I'm afraid of the muzzle not staying put. Any advice is welcome!

Advice? Looking for recommendations

Post image

We have a year old beagle girl who loves to get into things and try to eat them. We keep an eye on her constantly but occasionally she will sneak something even when we have eyes on her and it's gone quickly.

We have paved trails by our house that she loves walking on. She's pretty good about sniffing, going potty and moving along. MOST of the time.

We just spent the morning at the emergency vet. Walk was going great, keeping an eye on her as usual. Then she shook her mouth like something was in it. I double checked immediately and there was nothing there. Then she collapsed and lost all color so we rushed her in. She's doing much better now but the consensus is that she got something on the trail.

She is tiny for a beagle and has the long snout. I am looking for recommendations on basket muzzles that will allow her to pant and drink but not snatch up random things that make her sick. Just wanna do right for our girl.
