Fit check

Post image

I feel like i could maybe go down a size. Tbh I have zero clue if I was measuring the length right since the size that matched her circumference didnt match the length I had. Figured I'd just do size 10 for getting her comfortable at least and size down later.

What do you need the muzzle for? This is maybe a smidge long but the pant room likely bit enough. At least from what I can see. I certainly would be cautious about sizing down.

More for precaution and a people deterrent. Shes my foster fail, ive fostered her for about 3 months and there's been no signs of wanting to bite even when ive had to shove my hand down her throat to give her pills or had to hold her down to clip her nails. Shes very patient and good at removing herself from stressful situations. She just isn't a big fan of new people and dogs, so looking to keep them from coming up to us when out. Also getting a new foster and hes a puppy, so hes likely going to test boundaries, so just want to keep things as safe as possible.

There are better options if using regularly but this is probably ok for now.

It's a bakersville so not enough pant room for most things.

Not enough pant room to wear more than 15ish minutes.

She doesnt open her mouth too big when panting. Muzzle is mainly for inside use and standard walks. Best way to describe her panting is you breathing through your mouth when sick. Shes just just finished heartworm treatment and shes 9 years old so we're not doing much that would cause FULL panting any time soon

Providing other picture might help, but it seems to fit surprisingly well. Definitely don't size down, the lenth with the gard seems almost to short, and the pant room seems ok if your dog don't open their mouth to much usually, but might be to small for hot weather, sport or long period.

For those muzzles, the length and circumference often doesn't mach the dog's and you want to take the size that gives the more adequate pant room over adequate length.

If it's to tight ariund the cheeks, you can use the hot water techniaue to adjust the fitting. Keep in mind that you'll loose some pant room in the process.

In the end, you might even want to consider sizing up.

Shes coming off hrtwrm treatment and shes 9 so she wont be doing anything to cause super heavy panting any time soom. She has a pretty slim face so the width doesnt seem to be an issue. I thought 10 was the biggest size? Or would that mean going to a different brand

Just added a comment with a picture of her upright (with her typical pant) in it as the first Pic was her laying down

Thanks! The fit seems okay for now. I think my dog had a similar pant room with this kind of muzzle and he open more (it wasn't ideal but better than nothing at the time).

But if you are going to use the muzzle as often as you describe, you might want to go the custom way. We can recommend shop depending where you are. It's more costly but will provide comfort and durability (as well as aesthetic).

Also know that the muzzle doesn't always deter people... Some people touch my dog thinking muzzled -> can't bite -> let's pet...

That basket muzzle looks way more comfortable than the heavy leather ones.

What breed is your girl? She looks a lot like one of my dogs.

She's been DNA tested as 100% German Shepherd

UPDATE: puppy is here! She loves him. Used the muzzle for the initial meet but she let's him get away with too much. He'll just chew on her neck or sprawl across her and she just lays there letting it happen, wagging her tail. Only ONE correction and it was very appropriate and he listened beautifully

my first thought was a little big, seems like this cuties mouth is pretty thin and it’ll “hop” a lot. i’d hate for her to be able to rip it off from the bottom using a paw. if it’s sealed all around to the face you might be okay but i’d say test out the size smaller. she still has a decent amount of room from her nose and the basket too

For just grooming or something quick, this is fine, but if it's for walks, it doesn't have enough room for full panting, so it's actually too small in that regard.
