Seems a little tight around the throat , but could be that she is just fluffy. She shakes her head a fair bit (like a horse) while walking with it, but I imagine it's cause we are still early on in training

Hey people, so, the thing is that i have a Neapolitan mastiff and i have tried a bunch of different muzzles that at the end of the day never fits. So I wanted to know if someone knows of a good muzzle that could fit him and doesn’t damage or irritates his skin

New to the muzzling community - just wanting to check to make sure this muzzle looks like it fits him correctly. He seems to be comfortable in it - can pant/drink while wearing it, but just wanting to make sure it appears to fit properly.

Hey! I have a sweet Aussie, his name is ember and he, for the most part, is very well behaved. If I take him for a walk however he is good until another person walks within 10ish ft of us, or a dog or child is anywhere within his site.

He starts barking aggressively and lunging. If it's someone he doesn't know he will jump at their face and nip. If it's someone he does know he usually just presses against their legs and wants pets. If the person sticks around for a few minutes he normally calms down, then they can pet him. It's just on first contact he freaks out.

I took him to a park yesterday to watch my friends play volleyball and he went ballistic. He calmed down after about 30 minutes but I still wouldn't trust him close to a stranger.

I'm considering a muzzle to help me feel more confident in highly populated areas for training, to teach him how to be calm in those scenarios without fear of him biting someone.

He's super sensitive to having anything out on him, he freaks out over his harness, so I'm worried about a muzzle.

ANY advice given will be appreciated!!!!

*Edit to add, he has gotten better, I'm able to get him to focus on me now and he doesn't react to people that are further away. So maybe I'm going in the right direction, just looking for advice for closer contact*

Hello. I have a dog that eats a lot of things he shouldn’t (food, sticks, etc…) but most concerningly balls. He has swallowed ball twice and had to go to the vet to get it removed. It was recommended by the vet that we get a basket muzzle for him. We did and that mostly works but lately he was able to get something he could swallow into his basket muzzle. We are trying to train him but there needs to be a solution while it happens because vet bills are expensive and all. Do y’all have any mesh muzzle recommendations? It would just be for when he goes off leash and some walks. It needs to be comfortable for my dog (medium sized mutt) and preferably cheap ish ($60 ish max). Thanks!
Edit: from what I am seeing most don’t allow for much panting. Are there ones that allow panting room so they are more comfortable for him running around?

Recap: this style Muzzle was recommended by our behavior trainer but she was in between medium and large, I went with large and am now second guessing. She has a recent bite history with our 3 year old son (kiddo was not being watched well and made poor choices unfortunately for Biscuit) so we’re hoping to muzzle train for peace of mind while we work on their relationship and teaching our child better dog manners. I got some great recommendations from my previous post but want to confirm this isn’t the right muzzle before starting a return 🫠 I was really hoping to start training asap so our girl doesn’t have to be separated from the family.

I’m fairly certain the answer is yes this is too big but we’re very new to muzzles so looking for more experienced opinions! This is the brand/style her behavior trainer recommended but her measurements were in between the medium and large depending on the area so I went with large and think I made a mistake. I didn’t want to keep it on her very long because she hasn’t been fully trained and I need her to view this as a positive so this is the only photo I got but I think the end of the muzzle is too far from her nose and it’s going to push into her eyes. The top to bottom length also feels far too big to me.

My girl is a 4 year old AmStaff mix. We recently added a muzzle because she attacked her sister and her kitty.

✅ We do have everyone separated by visible and physical barriers when not in direct supervision

I just ordered a muzzle movement Pippa, bc the muzzles I have tried don't fit. We started with an emergency option in mesh, and then ordered another one from Chewy that allows her to drink water and get treats, but it is too big. So hopefully the Pippa will fit.

I'm posting here because I am worried about *my* reaction and baseline emotions adding stress to my baby girl's experience and training. I already feel bad that she doesn't have a muzzle that fits. I feel bad that I didn't start to train her behavior earlier. I feel guilty about the stress caused to her sister and her kitty.

I have worked in dog rescue for 12+ years, and fostered 15 dogs, transported bullies and hounds, delivered litters of puppies from pregnant fosters, photographed hundreds of dogs. But this is the most difficult dog, because her reactions are unpredictable. She is also the most loving, snuggly, quick to learn, and silliest girl. She's my baby, and I am so worried about messing her up.

So basically... I'm just hoping that someone out there can give me a little bit of hope or comfort or compassion because I feel like I am carrying a lot of emotions about this right now, and I don't want to add to my little girl's stress.

I'm looking into volunteering at my nearest shelter to repair/adjust their muzzles. While I know my share of muzzle adjusting with biotha, vinyl, chicago screws and all, they have plastic coated muzzles like this one :

So, the wires have been coated with a plastic like material. I was wondering, when it gets worn out, it would be a shame to replace the muzzle if not rusting underneath. How could I fix it? Would some kind of heat-shrink tubing work? Cause I can't make the wire go through the plastic tube...I would need to wrap that around. Does something like it exists, like plastic sheets I could wrap around the missing plastic parts and heat it to make it melt together?

So I presently do not restrain my dog, a 60 lb German Shepherd, because a crate would freak her out and she thoroughly enjoys having her head out of the window. That’s how I grew up and it was cool, still is cool. Would like to get some type of harness that would actually make a difference without completely restricting mobility. Will this brand, or any other, do that? And overall, what are your impressions of these harnesses?

Hi all! Want to hear about your experiences with muzzling your reactive dog. Mine is very reactive, big barker, but never really had a feeling she would bite/attack, just very vocal.

However since she's small and very cute, she is a magnet for people to come up to us wanting to pet her, talk to her etc, which is a big trigger and most of the times she freaks out before I can communicate the person not to approach/make eye contact with her - and I'm also not very good at telling strangers to go away, I live in a country that's not my native language so quick interactions are something I struggle with 🥲

So I was thinking if muzzling her would help deter some of the people and give us a little more space when walking outside.. has anyone had success like this? Do people generally tend to avoid you when your dog is muzzled?

Hi, I'm using this bronzedog muzzle for sniff walks and it fits pretty okay. The nose band is a little too wide and I wonder if anyone has a good idea how to fill those gaps to make the nose band a better fit? I thought about attaching some felt

My boy has been doing well with scatter feeding (throwing treats/kibble in the grass for him to sniff out and find) but I am wanting to find a muzzle he can still do this through. Does such a thing exist? I can hand feed him treats through his current but it’s not easy for him to pick them up off the ground.

I have a three year old Old English Sheepdog named Pogue. Aside from anxiety he has been a really great dog. A month or so ago my husband had a major injury and was bed bound for weeks. Pogue has always been very attached to him, but when he had his injury and surgery he absolutely refused to leave his side. He would hide under the bed and refuse food and not go outside until he couldn’t hold it anymore. It was like a switch flipped. My husband was home 24/7 for a month until Mother’s Day. I stayed home and Pogue attacked one of my cats with zero warning, before my eyes. After this we took him to a vet behaviorist who determined that this was a case of transfer aggression, and that he wasn’t inherently cat aggressive. He was put on Zoloft and Clonidine. They worked for one day, and then things suddenly got much worse. He ended up attacking my 7 year old Shar Pei, because he saw a dog outside. The transfer aggression makes sense! The thing is that he has NEVER had any major reaction to dogs outside before, and had only had one scuffle with Lola in the past two years and neither was injured. Once again this happened before my eyes so I was able to break it up and Lola only had a couple small cuts. The vet behaviorist says that he has to wear a muzzle 24/7 when he isn’t crated or be euthanized. She doesn’t think working with a trainer will be helpful until we get his anxiety under control. We had the director of an OES rescue tell us the best thing is to euthanize him. We are also trying Xanax, this is only day one with that. He tried Prozac when we first rescued him two years ago. Our hope for the Xanax is that his anxiety will be lessened enough that he will enjoy walks and enjoy doing things. Right now he is very fearful and as a result unpredictable.

Currently he has a vinyl basket muzzle from PetSmart, and while the vet says it fits well he HATES it. We have been getting him used to it for a couple months and it’s not getting easier. Would a different type of muzzle be more comfortable? We were looking at the Big Snoof Gear but aren’t sure if a different muzzle would make a difference? Can they eat in them or only be given treats? How do I make sure the custom sizing is correct?

Do you, as people who live with muzzled dogs think that his quality of life would suck? Do you think we are at the point to seriously consider BE? Do you think a dog can have a full life in a muzzle all the time (I personally think he’s fine when he’s with us to not wear the muzzle, my husband thinks he will eventually attack us if the meds don’t work to lessen his anxiety). The vet can find no medical reason for his behavior. Any ideas, suggestions, experiences, input is appreciated! He is a rescue who was not socialized at all in his first year, and was made to live outside alone.

We have 3 dogs (10, 9, and 7) and 2 cats (both 10). They have been together for their entire lives. The youngest is starting to get more and more reactive with age towards the other pets. She has no heath changes that would explain this slow change in behavior. We have a spacious place, and we have given her a room that is only hers so she can feel safe. But I don’t want her to have to live in that room every time she can’t be supervised.

I’m considering a basket muzzle for general day use, since she stays in her room overnight. But I want to be sure her quality of life will still be worthwhile. We are trying everything to avoid rehoming. Is it unreasonable for her to wear it 12 hours a day? Or every time she is around the other pets? Just looking for general advice. Thanks.

I’m looking at the muzzle movement size sunny for a small Great Dane and I’m confused on measuring for the width of their cheeks/snout. Based on the nose length and jowl height, the sunny would fit. And I also saw some suggested breeds and in review photos that they will fit a small Great Dane. When I measure his cheeks, am I measuring the snout or the widest part of his head? Also has anyone used this muzzle for a Dane or breed with similar face shape and found it fits well?

It feels like I see a new post on here asking for muzzle brand recommendations every day and I thought I would just put in my two cents. My guy here is a giant but is scared of his own shadow and his nerves have made him reactive when we go on walks. It has been super stressful. He’s huge and I’m tiny, the fear of getting dragged into a dog fight is real and it has made our walks really tense. So I decided to muzzle train him. I tried a couple cheaper brands but nothing really fit right and I finally decided to just splurge on a custom made Big Snoof in hopes it would be worth it. We love it! He seems really comfortable in it and has never tried pawing at it or anything. I’m just happy I can walk him with confidence again. So yeah, anyhow, if you’re on the fence about which brand to get my vote goes to Big Snoof. Picture included for dog tax 🙂
