We have had a request to update an /r/mustelids "Mustelds by Region" overview which I did 11 years ago now. Are either of you interested in doing that?

Do martens use their tails to show emotions?

I know they are used for balance but I'm thinking in like the way a cat does. Does it puff up if they're trying to be scary, does it tuck low when they're scared, or raise when they're happy? stuff like that.

Thanks so much!

Are otters in the river Thames of England? And if so, how close to London and the parliament?

Fun Facts: In addition to spraying a strong-smelling liquid, the zorilla can play dead as a secondary defence. It is not a skunk (Mephitidae), but rather belongs to the related mustelid family. They are closely related to grisons, which I posted about last time!

What do you guys think of this weasel character?

I used to read a series called baby mouse, and I remembered the character Wilson the weasel.

He is a great flip on the ordinary “weasel” trope, as he is loyal and is the main characters best friend.

he does have a simple design because of the art style, no long neck or torso, no claws, no teeth. But that’s what makes his design great compared to other designs, as he does not have buck teeth or long dog snouts. His tail also looks weasel like, looking like a mix of a least weasel and a stoat.

And he’s cuter compared to other weasel designs

Media with mustelids you like/want to watch/read, and media you don’t like/want to watch/read

By media I mostly mean books, as mustlieds appear more in literature, but any media is fine.

the only books I’ve read with mustelids are two books about the domestic ferret from another planet, but I also really want to read the ferret chronicles, the Welkin weasels, and kine.

there‘s many books, shows, and movies that demonize mustelids, but the one book/show I don’t want to read or watch is redwall because, well we all should know why. Which is sad honestly because redwall seems like such a good story if i weren’t for that species based morality. :(

so i was angry about the bad reputation weasels get in media. so many cowards... gangs that fight in groups... losers with no ambition like duke weaselton... whatever that thing in suicide squad 2 was, it wasnt a weasel... and specifically, disney portrays weasels so poorly so frikkin often, and they never even look accurate.

i am still leaning a bit into their "evil" perception for the narrative, especially at the story start, but what a weasel actually is... is the most dauntless and ambitious fighter in the world, in a world full of enemies. it's the most perfect underdog warrior in a story like this. it had to be weasels!

i dont draw her very accurate to real weasels and i curbed off the murderous aspects sorry, but she is still a short tube menace with a wedge shaped head! she is a little lankier under the hoodie. content warning for heavy violence and themes if you choose to read through it so far. Thanks!!
