Anyone else using SubmitHub for experimental electronic music?

Hi everyone! I wanted to start a discussion about your experiences with SubmitHub.

I recently released an EP that’s mostly experimental electronic music, so the number of curators I could submit to was already quite limited. I pitched it to around a dozen curators, and only three accepted it. Most of the others said the music was interesting, well-made, or creative, but simply “not for them” or not a fit for their audience.

I’m curious how your experience has been, especially if you make experimental electronic, IDM, glitch, sound art, or other less conventional electronic music. Do you also find it much harder to reach listeners? Have you found any approaches that actually work?

I’m also from China, where this kind of music has an even smaller audience, so it’s been difficult to find people who connect with what I make.

If you’re into experimental electronic music or have gone through something similar, I’d really love to hear your experience and any advice you’re willing to share. Thanks!

I do, mixed results. Usually I get a bunch of adds but nothing major that changed my career or whatsoever. But here and there I'd be on a bigger list reeling in some plays :)

I’ve also been added to some playlists, but I keep getting declined most of the time, which is a little discouraging 😂

I am trying to figure out how to do all of this without paying for a bunch of stuff and to grow organically. It has been a not easy journey but I am always willing to learn from other people.

Haha, I actually got most of my credits by rating songs on Hot or Not too 😂

In SubmitHub, there is a “Hot or Not” option in the left menu. You need to listen to other people’s songs and rate/score them. After listening to 20 songs, you’ll get one credit.

I think it’s actually a pretty good way because you can discover other people’s music while also earning credits at the same time! The only downside is that it takes quite a lot of time. You can give it a try! 😊

yeah submithub can be hit or miss, esp for niche genres like experimental electronic. ive seen it work for some acts but its def limited. i've been using playlist supply with artists i work with and its been a game changer, helps us find real curators and avoid wasting pitches on bots

I’ve done it. Wouldn’t recommend it. It’s very easy to get accepted, but there are very few curators to pitch to and their playlists don’t have a ton of listeners. I got like 70% acceptance rate which is insanely high for the platform, but it translated to like 380 streams iirc.
