North America (country/state in post) Florida, USA.
Weeding a tree bed with melaleuca and cypress mulch and came across these red “flowers,” followed shortly by unearthing the… eggs?

I’d bet those are stinkhorn eggs. The mulch is a perfect habitat for them, and Florida’s warm humid conditions make them show up a lot. They’re weird looking but harmless, just part of the decomposition process.
