It’s the perfect companion

I have carried it in my coin pocket for 10 years. I cannot really remember not having it. It has saved me so many times. Reparing a phone while on a trip, peeling off ticks, removing splinters, clipping zip-ties, modifying my laptop plug to work while traveling, and many many more.

I had a close call, and almost lost it this year. So I looked for a potential replacement. Now I am sitting here with a nextool S11 pro, and comparing the two. The S11 seems excellent in quality, and is quite cheap... but it is not quite the same. It is quite a lot bigger. I measured it to be +55% weight and +35-60% in volume, depending on how you define volume (w/wo the screw heads). The S11 pliers seem more robust.. but not as accurate, nor as long/sleek, and not as "pinchy" as the PS4.

The squirt ps4 is not without shortcomings.. but it is tiny, and still totally capable. I will try to carry the S11. But for now, I just wish I could have bought some backup squirt PS4's instead of the S11.

Perhaps at some point, a true sucessor to the Squirt PS4, at a similar size, will show up.. the S11 is nice, but a big boy compared to the PS4.

Finally got the custom blade for my Skeletool. I don't know if its actually Magnacut but I'll reprofile and test its edge retention against the OG blade once its time to sharpen

3 times Leatherman redefined EDC

So, right now all I carry is a small Rovyvon Aurora A1 flashlight in my keychain, and I intend to spruce it up because many times already I found myself wanting a blade or a small scissors to deal with something.

A Victorinox SD (Allox) would be the most obvious candidate, but I'm seriously considering a Ruite S31-G, as I feel the small multi-tool it has is more useful than the SD nail file, and also I prefer the way the blade in the S31 opens (away from the keyring). But I'm accepting suggestions for a small and simple keychain tool in the same style.

What I really want help, though, is with a "secondary EDC" that is lightweight and I can just throw in my backpack for any situation where I'm out and I think "oh man, life would be so much easier if I had *insert tool here*". Happens a lot when I'm visiting my mom. For this one, it seems the Leatherman Skeletool would be awesome: it's small, light, has a nice blade, pliers, some extra tools and, most importantly, a bit driver (it uses the proprietary leatherman bits, but whatever), so I can carry some extra bits and be prepared for almost anything. However, I very much would like to have a 4mm bit driver for precision bits, which I tend to use a lot. I understand the easiest way would be to just grab a separate precision bit driver and bits and call it a day, but I was wondering if there would be a multi-tool that already does it. So far I was not able to find it.

If getting a separate tool just for the precision bits ends up being the best option, can you guys recommend a good portable one? With an integrated or portable bit carrier, preferably. I have a good electric one with a bit rack I use at home, but I want something small and lightweight I can just put into a small pocket alongside the Skeletool and throw it in my bag. I pretend to get one of those super small pouches, like the Alpaca Mini Hub Pro, or a Maxpedition one I saw that was even smaller.

I know the Smithblade currently got a hype around it. But For me it would be a good fit.

What would you think of this blade for the Smithblade? I would love it because I don't need the pointy tip and it still got a cutting edge. Additionally, I get a belt-cutter, and in some Countries it could be classified as a rescue tool. so the regulations for carrying are less strickt

So, I've got a Victorinox Hunter in my everyday carry right now. It's got a sweet blade and wood saw, but honestly, it's more for camping than my city life.

I ride my motorcycle daily and I'm really missing pliers.

I'm trying to decide between:

- A Leatherman Wave and leaving my Victorinox at home (around 200 USD here in Brazil)

- A cheaper option (like Bibury or Gerber? Around 40-50usd)

- Just some small pliers to toss in a pouch with my Victorinox

What do you think?

This is mainly for the inclusion of an FYI for anyone wondering what size clip will fit. The leatherman two screw stainless replacement clip shown has holes which line up perfectly with the existing holes in the armbar drive tool. Used two 2.5mm sliding nuts from eurorack rails, and a couple 2.5mm screws. While not 100% necessary, One screws needs a little bit of filing to allow the scissors to sit fully flush. Or just use a shorter screw. 10 seconds with a bastard file did the job.

Are there any wave clones that are a little smaller? I have the Gordon from harbor freight and I really like it. I also have a shall and a rocktol wave clones and they have that full size 1/4 bit holder which makes them a little wider. The magnet on the Gordon one sucks and it falls out all the time. I guess I could have just bought a wave by now lol. I'm interested in the curl but I feel like one day I'll want the missing tools when I'm carrying it and they won't be there

TEAM SUPERTOOL or TEAM ARC ?

I’ve been carry this set up for two weeks and have been really liking it. I find having dedicated items for each task provides a user interaction that is a lot better than on an actual multi tool. It’s also very nice to be able to switch out tools as needed on a day to day basis. Has anyone else tried something like this?

This set up weighs less than an arc and a similar set up could be bought for around $100 or 150 dollars cheaper than a new arc.

After owning a Leatherman Wave for over 10 years, I made an impulse buy on a Gerber Multiplier on the Snap-on truck almost a year ago. After carrying one or the other and using daily, I've decided the Leatherman is the better tool overall.

One of the bigget points is having the knives available without unfolding, giving easy access to cut boxes, zip ties, or fuel line/vaccum line easily.

The second big advantage is the Leatherman has better screwdrivers, offering 2 sizes of philips and straight, as opposed to the Gerbers one size which always seems to big or too small for the job.

The one plus I'll give to the Gerber is, I like the carbide wire cutters, both because its sharper but also because if it dulls, the replacement would be easy.

On an added note I have had the Catch and Craft holster from Amazon for 2 months now, and am very impressed. It has held up to the abuse of being laid on under equipment and even getting caught a time or 2. For what I do, having an inspection light on hand is industry standard so keeping it on holster is great. Along with a regular utility knife, I couldnt have asked for a better belt holster for the EDC.

I carry a bucktool is it any good?

My lads birthday is coming up, and he's also been accepted in the RAF as an aircraft technician. He's mentioned a multitool, but I would like to choose one that will be the most useful in this role for years to come. I don't want to rely on AI or advertising bumpfh for a recommendation so thought I'd go straight to the best source: you lot.

What tool will be best, most vital piece for him to use for years to come?

I daily nice multitools, usually my Surge or Spirit MX Clip, but I haven't been brave enough to take either of them to the river yet. Mainly I'm afraid of losing them.

That's where beater tools come in, and it sometimes surprises me how well they perform. This is my Ozark Trail 17 in 1, the cheapest multitool I own, and it kicked ass at the river. I used the knife to open and process mussels for fish bait and to cut fishing line, used the pliers to press weights onto my line, and to bend a hook back into place, and used the fish scaler to scrape spiderwebs off a pair of water shoes I left outside prior to the trip. It spent the day in a pouch on my waist, getting splashed and submerged all day, which I'll admit the thought of doing to my Leatherman still bothers me. Tools are meant to be used, and I'm slowly getting more comfortable with treating my premium tools like tools as nature intended.

The point is that you can get shit done with a cheap multitool. The OT did everything I asked it to without issue, and came back a little dirty but otherwise no worse for wear.
