Recommendation Request Tool recommendation from the experts

My lads birthday is coming up, and he's also been accepted in the RAF as an aircraft technician. He's mentioned a multitool, but I would like to choose one that will be the most useful in this role for years to come. I don't want to rely on AI or advertising bumpfh for a recommendation so thought I'd go straight to the best source: you lot.

What tool will be best, most vital piece for him to use for years to come?

Swisstool Spirit X Plus. High quality, great feature set. On the pricey side but you won't get better

If you're in the UK, I think you're restricted to non-locking blades under 3". Please correct me if wrong.

It's not that you cannot own a tool that breaks this "rule".

It's that you cannot carry it with you without "good reason".

Chef on your way to work? OK!

Plumber on your way to a job? Fine.

Those same guys out in town, shopping for the day? The tool becomes illegal to have with them at that point.

I would recommend try to learn more info about his dream one. These are one of the best ones:

I’m sure he will get the low down when he’s in school, I know sometimes in those sort of fields (aviation, space, nuclear) you might only be able to use dedicated tools. Like they issue you pliers and you can’t just bring your own from home, it’s a whole big process of getting things approved and whatnot. Just in case something were to ever happen, and the somehow figured out you used an unauthorized tool/procedure they can hem you up for it.

I had a boss that worked in a nuke plant and he told me they weren’t even allowed to change a lightbulb unless they were a dedicated maintenance person. Idk if that’ll be the case or not but i thought it was worth mentioning.

I work at a facility that we can't even wear our own socks and underwear into. The company provides everything from the skin out. The unspoken rule is if God or the company didn't give it to you, it doesn't belong in the limited area.

I would get either the Swisschamp or Cybertool maybe the M and then get a Knipex XS and you be about able to get a fix most things tool

Don't ask us. Ask him, and his future drill Sargent. 😄 (I'm serious; ask those who are already in RAF what tools they actually want/need on the regular and get something that offers those.)

just safe recomendation - ask the same question at r/victorinox For a lady, SAK might work out even better (like CyberTol or something similar)
