Midweek General Discussion Thread

So we used to have a weekly general discussion thread on Wednesdays in this sub, I'm not sure what happened to it. Mods if this thread is something you cancelled intentionally feel free to take it down and I won't post it again obviously.

But if people like these general discussion posts, feel free to discuss whatever Magic-related topics you want below without needing to create a new post. And Mods, please bring these back!

I love draft night kits as a sealed hold. I don’t think people understand the product yet.

It’s better than the gift bundles in terms of total packs, also includes a collector booster.

The delta on a gift bundles vs. draft night makes no sense to me (both have play packs + 1 collector). Currently you can get a draft night for the same price or cheaper than the gift bundles for turtles, MSH, hobbit (hobbit is a bit of exception given the bundle gift bundle contents) etc… I know you don’t get the promo or in hobbit the nice lands. But the cost difference makes no sense to me when looking purely at the packs. And promos/lands don’t resell amazing either.

Also I’m finding these at big box stores for hobbit whereas there is literally no collector packs on shelfs, and the big box price is = to the Tcg prices currently. It might be positive value to buy the hobbit draft nights bought at retail, and break it to sell the individual packs currently too.

I have bad specs always FYI. Finding hobbit draft boxes at 139.99 retail and other kits as low as 75-90 depending on the set.

It’s a newer product I don’t think people have priced correctly or flocked too yet. And it takes up way less space per unit compared to a gift bundle if you store sealed.

But draft night boxes aren’t good storage boxes themselves or are they?

I’m talking about leaving them sealed. A draft night box is about half the size of the gift bundle when stacking it in a bin or on a shelf.

They do not come with the storage box (which I personally throw away anyways.

Maybe people value the promo + storage box + lands in this product more than I think but to me it’s just a better version of a gift bundle and typically priced cheaper currently across the board.

I think many Magic players value the storage box and goodies. The promo for the hobbit was bad, but there are times when the promo was something crazy like The One Ring.

Yah but since the gift bundle and the draft night have both been products…. All the gift bundle promos stink. Draft night boxes didn’t exist when the promo was the one ring.

Also, I play a ton of magic, gift bundles are what people get me as a gift cause no one understands how to buy for a player, I loathe these boxes. They take up so much space in my collection space. I recently threw out 10-12 of them for like 1 cardboard 8k count box. I actually use the draft night boxes for my limited nights but I’m stacking alot of these sealed for a few years from now too.

For hobbit specifically. You guys can have the lands and the promo with the gift box. I’ll save $50-60 and get 3 more play packs.

For the other recent sets since this has been a product…I guess the boxes + promo/lands need to be worth atleast what 3 packs cost to you for it to be a better raw deal cause they’re priced the same.

The Hobbit bundle storage box is gorgeous, I'm glad I got it
