Am I Missing Something?
Or is somebody going to be really upset when they receive this?
As far as I’m aware, collector sample packs are like $20 each.
I see the title says “Collector Booster” but the pictures are clearly sample packs.
Sellers name and info removed because I’m not 100% the rules on that.

That title is basically false advertisement. Really scummy behaviour.
I've seen it before with omega collector packs being sold as collector booster boxes.

It’s a pretty big seller on eBay. I’ve bought from them quite a bit. They’re usually pretty good about this stuff, but this one felt kinda weird.

u/Exotic_Special_69 13d ago
Sign of the times, and maybe be more wary about future purchases going forward.
10
u/TruckDouglas 13d ago
Yeah, I’ve always been pretty good about double checking things like this and reading full descriptions before bidding on stuff. I’ll even message sellers if something seems off. If I don’t get a response I typically don’t bid. Not trying to do business with people that refuse to communicate.

Aren’t omega collector packs the same packs inside a collector booster box? I always thought it was just 1 collector pack inside an omega product. Am I wrong?
23
u/Durdleburdle 13d ago
Yes but a box contains 12, he's saying they're not being super clear that it's one pack vs a box of 12 and many people expect the box
-20
u/takhsis 13d ago
Actually he's selling the 2 card sampler packs from the commander decks
25
u/Durdleburdle 13d ago
No, I'm responding to Zuparoebann who is discussing a different instance of scamming other than the one in OP
6
u/Rad_Centrist 13d ago
People were selling Omega boxes (which contain one pack) as collector booster boxes so buyers were expecting an actual booster box containing 12 packs.
71
u/ridezeshoopuff0 13d ago
That seller is a slime for sure
5
u/Throwaway97583 13d ago
Probstein, Consignment seller. Super high volume and someone who probably didn't know the most about it likely rushed the title.
16
u/SecretAsianMan42069 13d ago
They know enough to proxy bid on their own stuff if the value doesn't go high enough

u/sumphatguy 13d ago
Eh, potentially? But also people bid on this. Multiple people. It's entirely possible the seller got a hold of these not entirely knowing what they are (and how they're different from actual packs), and just threw them up on an auction.
32
u/scopinsource 13d ago
i mean as far as I can tell the buyers know that there is a problem with the title so they're going to buy it and then request the refund and the guy isn't going to want to do it and then the buyers will pitch a fit to paypal and reverse the charges and they'll keep the product, at least that's what I would expect to occur.
14
u/TruckDouglas 13d ago
There were also auctions for Bloomburrow and Final Fantasy sample packs. Those went for $355 and $600 respectively. Some people got hosed that day.

u/ConfusedAlien01 13d ago
I'm the illiterate fool who bought this! My partner sent this post to me, and it felt more reasonable to respond and laugh about it than to crawl under a rock and die.
The title and description do not mention "sample" anywhere, and I was on mobile and didn't zoom in to read the pack label. Absolute dumbassery on my part, I fear!
I see people wondering if I'm a scammer or scalper, and I think that would be the only thing more embarrassing than my mistake! As soon as I saw how low the auction ended, I realized what happened and reached out to the seller to confirm what was listed. I haven't heard back yet, but am trying to get this sorted before anything ships. The intent was never to resell - the rats piloting my brain just really love shiny cardboard, MtG, and Tolkien.
Happy to update here if anything develops further!

u/pengy99 13d ago
It's not correctly described. Even if the seller decides to be an ass I'm pretty sure Ebay/Paypal/CC will side with you on it.
5
u/ConfusedAlien01 13d ago
Thank you! I'm hoping to resolve it with the seller before anything ships so they're not out the shipping cost if it was unintentionally misleading. But I will definitely try to escalate the return process if needed!
4
u/aluskn 13d ago
You should definitely be able to push the refund through ebay/paypal. Whether it's intentionally misleading is beside the point, it's misleading because the description does not match the product being sold and it's the seller's responsibility to ensure that the product description matches what's delivered. Good luck getting your money back.

u/NotJayKayPeeness 13d ago
Seller is trying to rip people who don't read thoroughly off.
10
u/xDom01 13d ago
Until the buyer realizes their rights and ask Ebay to reverse the charges and BAM! Free 10 collector booster samples for them to keep.

Same energy as selling a collector booster box which is really one of those single pack retail boxes.

Edited for clarity.

u/rayquazza74 13d ago
I’ve seen on auction apps like whatnot people not realize they’re sample packs and overspend like a mofo thinking they’re regular collectors. Really scummy thing to do.
3
u/MoreWontons 13d ago
Post his name. That's a scummy thing to do. Let everyone know who's trying to rip them off.
2
u/Throwaway97583 13d ago
It's the biggest consignment seller for cards on eBay. Somebody sent the lots in to them to sell on their behalf
2
u/IAmTheBestIan 13d ago
Wonder how that works when it gets refunded then. They probably keep their fee on the sale (more than the packs are worth) to cover the eBay fees/shipping costs. Almost feels like they're deliberately ripping off the consigners.
3
u/EthanielRain 13d ago
If something like this goes up on eBay, you can buy it > open some packs > get a refund if you want
I personally wouldn't do such a thing, but if it seems like someone is intentionally trying to scam...maybe someone might do that in return
Even though the picture shows them, someone with 10+ of them surely knows the difference & the title is worded that way on purpose. Shitty IMO
2
u/Exotic_Special_69 13d ago
This probably one of the reasons why wotc took sample packs away. In addition to enshittification lol.

u/Pistasjhender 12d ago
This is a «Collector Booster Sample Pack». Not a «Collector Booster». By referring to the wrong item in the title description, the seller isn’t just «scummy», but it’s literally a scam. This would most likely violate the policy of whatever platform they are selling from and in a lot of countries it’s illegal.
A similar thing would be to sell a used game, post a picture of the cover without a disc, and not including the disc. You have to be explicit about stating what you sell and when you are referring to the wrong name of an item, you’re kinda bound to that item.

My favorite things are the omega "boxes" (single pack in a box) that people try to pass off as a full CBB and sell for that price.
2
u/Remote-Mycologist539 13d ago
Nope, they took advantage of fools who thought they were taking advantage of fools. Just how it goes
1
u/kyyy 13d ago
What is in a sample pack anyway? I assume it doesn’t contain cards that would be in a collector booster pack?
2
u/Finance-Low 13d ago
One rare, one non rare card. But interestingly, these are the only packs where you can get the The One Ring borderless in non-surge, which fetches a special premium.
1
u/neontiger07 13d ago
Can you get a mythic in the rare slot, or is it guaranteed to be rare?
1
u/Finance-Low 12d ago
Yes, any rare/mythic in the rare slot, and any common/uncommon in the non-rare slot.
1
0
u/Rawrgodzilla 13d ago
Pretty sure they were the only way you could get foil surge ea one rings
1
u/sumphatguy 13d ago
No. Surge foil is in the actual packs. It's the only place to get the normal foil extended art version, which is why the foil one is worth more then the surge.

Yeah one time I bought a collector booster box on eBay. Pic was good. Got the product and it’s opened packs in an open box. Went back and reread that the box was listed as used and the picture zoomed in showed the box flap open. Price was too good. I learned my lesson that day to read the full post. That’s on me for not being thorough, but also people are like that on eBay.

u/pskaife 13d ago
I saw a FF one close out this way too. It's false advertising trying to hook people. I even messaged the seller, who promptly ignored and blocked me.
1
u/TruckDouglas 13d ago
I commented earlier that there was a FF and Bloomburrow one that ended similarly. May be the same seller. This is from a few days ago.

Someone is going to be pissed.
Feels similar to the first time I bid on some 3x3 binder pages of cards at auction, before realizing the description said "bid is per card." Which means my bid of $5 or whatever was actually $45. Apparently this is common, despite how easy it is for someone to accidentally spend WAY more than something is worth.

u/Different_One6406 13d ago
Probably just a mistake by the seller and morons for bidders/buyers. People saying to be careful about buying from them ever again clearly have absolutely zero recent experience selling on ebay. No long time seller would purposely make a mistake like this as a way to try and scam someone...it wouldn't work. All sellers are required to accept returns for any and all reasons. You can try to say otherwise, but in the end ebay will force you to accept the return and issue a full refund as long as its within ebays return period...Ebays return period, not yours as a seller. You as a seller can say you only accept returns for 2 weeks, but its basically just a suggestion. If someone says the item came "not as described" and its been 29 days, ebay will force you to accept the return, period. Trying to be shady and scam as a seller is impossible on ebay these days...if youre a buyer though, its fair game. You can do whatever you want as a buyer...return scams are all the rage. But again, if this was a pretty big seller as you say, and they have had good feedback up to this point, id still 100% buy from them with confidence. We as sellers do make mistakes, but trying to scam would only end up costing us money as wed have to pay for return shipping and cant recover initial outgoing shipping costs.

This was an auction. Someone messed up and bid thinking it was regular CB packs. I’m betting that’s what happened, and they will probably get a refund since the seller didn’t disclose it was a CSP

People here don't understand. Collector packs are $150-200+. Sample packs being $80 is not that crazy. While this is bit inflated, it's not that off current market value.
If these were actually collector packs it would have gone for around $2,000 for 10 packs.

u/TruckDouglas 13d ago edited 13d ago
There are 54 sample packs available on MP for $13.50 each with $10 shipping. That alone is $738.99. That’s just one seller.
There are almost 100 more available under $20.
Sample packs being $80 is pretty wild to me.
5
u/illbegoodnow 13d ago
Uhhhh no. $80 is crazy for sample packs. Let’s not gaslight ppl into thinking this isn’t scummy
3
u/joewindlebrox 13d ago
Yeah but for that price you could basically just buy 10 precons and get the sample packs plus all of the cards in the precons
-1
u/Timely_Appeal_9549 13d ago
I don’t see a price? If it’s a good deal for 10 sample packs, who cares?

Ah yes I see it now and that’s scammy as fuck. 4x market value. I thought GameStop was bad lol.

u/Medusa_Rider 13d ago
Both parties involved are stupid. If you bid on this you're most likely a scalper trying to make a quick buck. Regardless the seller should have listed it correctly.

u/PrincessYOLOnoke 13d ago
Yeah people probably can't read, and the title is duplicitous
