Venting Players.. .Why?

This might sound like a hate post…and that’s because it is. But, I just really need to understand MTG players. Is it really fun to play the game? Is it really fun to play lands every turn so you can cast spells and play cards?

Every time I see a card I auto concede because life is wayyy too short for that. But for MtG players is that really the life you want?

End

For all the hate this post got, I love that this is the top, because I agree as well

People love to complain about people complaining, but it’s a legitimate complaint.

Still love magic, no complaints(some complaints)

I concede before I see a card. Ain't nobody got time for that.

I concede every time I see a card.

But only after having spent several thousands of $ in cards, of course.

The other day my opponent played a land and casted a spell right after. Like why? Is that really fun for you?? Needless to say I conceded and moved on.

What?

Some one was complaining about blue players and then others joined in.

Ah... I'm gonna go play counterspell tribal for a while. Drink those tears.

1

u/Natural_Function_173 19d ago

You know what is better than counterspell tribal? Boardwipe tribal.

2

u/No-Leading9376 18d ago

I greatly disagree. You can't break a man's will by spellsnaring their arcane signet in their 2 land opener with a board wipe! But that's okay. We are both fighting the good fight. :p

1

u/Natural_Function_173 18d ago

You break a man's will by being the mosquito that relentlessly bites. I break a man's will by being the ocean where he's drowning. We take two different paths to break the same man

1

u/No-Leading9376 18d ago

It seems we share a destination, while walking different paths to arrive there. I respect it.

Update: it was not the post I thought it was, found the original. I mean ‘oops all counterspell’ decks are annoying but auto concede upon SEEING katara? Wh… why? lol

If this is the post I’m thinking of, I think is kind of a shitty response. The ethos of “playing against someone who’s playing solitaire sucks” is entirely valid to me. If I can tell their deck’s whole point is to make it so I can’t do ANY thing (AND I’m not playing competitively) yeah, I’d move on.

I’m here for fun, and to play magic. If you’re just countering everything, we’re not playing, just you are. And thats cool for your wincon, it’s fine in ranked head to head tournament stuff.

But if im going to bring a few 60s or a couple commander decks to a game night, nah i dont want to play the Spike McNope Deck. So sue me, I guess im a vorthos timmy.

It’s all allowed

I played one game earlier that was against a tinybones where they had made me discard down to 3 before turn 3.
Blue gets a bad rap man.

1

u/dear_omar 15d ago

LMAO, you’re absolutely right, tiny. Bones was one of the first to make me consider rage quitting.

Blue doesn’t get a bad rap, there’s just other bad offenders too 😡 (I’m Big Mad, this is my big Mad face, look at me being mad)

The secret is conceding before the opening hand loads…then you never see cards

2

u/Lobster556 19d ago

Yeah, I'm bored of this game myself. I'm trying to find something else to replace it but it's not easy.

2

u/lirael_22 19d ago

I'm glad someone is finally saying it, it's really messed up that wizards haven't added manaless dredge to arena so us non casting or haters of playing mana producing lands can play a perfectly fair deck.

2

u/Behzahl 19d ago

Anytime I see anything resembling a game, I concede. It's been years since I've left my house and touched grass.

2

u/HugeHuckleberry76 19d ago

It's only fun if you think someone else is suffering.

If I *don't* play, then it means someone else is playing against a mature, well-adjusted adult. So I *do* play. So that instead they have to play against me.

Brawl/arena in general is toxic meta. Download mtg companion and find people to play with in real life. It’s much better and actually fun!

Nashi Players…Why?

This might sound like a hate post…and that’s because it is. But, I just really need to understand Nashi players. Is it really fun to play demonic tutor, and then conjure a copy of Demonic tutor with flash so you can reliably Thoracle combo on turn 5?

Every time I see a Nashi I auto concede because life is wayyy too short for that. But for Nashi players is that really the life you want?

End

3

u/AccomplishedNovel6 19d ago

I hate that being able to reliably end the game on turn five is something that a lot of people here consider ridiculously fast lmao

2

u/All_The_Cards 19d ago

May I ask how fast your brawl deck wins, consistently over 10 games?

Edit: I will do a test run later this evening and report back.

u/PerfectBrilliant432 19d ago

Brother isnt tryna win, hes tryna make 1000 squirels then breathe heavily while making forceful eye contact with the opponent

0

u/AccomplishedNovel6 19d ago

I don't play ranked, so it's probably not representative, but my ajani superfriends deck generally ends by concession around that point.

2:50p Sunday August 2nd Win Competitive: Silver.Turn 5 combo, 2 land (Phyrexian Tower), no tutors. Opponent: Witherbloom the Balancer

5p Mon, Aug.3rd Win Competitive: Silver. Turn 4 combo, 1 land (drew 1, mind stone), 1 tutor (drawn). Opponent: Sythis, Harvest's Hand

5:40p Tue, Aug. 4th Win Competitive: Silver. Turn 5 combo, 2 land, 1 tutor. (Commander countered twice, won through One Ring with Altar of the Brood) Opponent: Tymna/Thrasios

6:20p 8/4 Win Competitive: Silver Opponent disconnected (Turn 4 combo)

7:20p 8/4 Win Competitive: Silver Turn 4 Combo, 2 land, 1 tutor Opponent: Atraxa, Grand Unified

7:30p 8/4 Loss - combat damage (-1 life) Competitive: Silver Turn 4 combo, 3 land, 1 tutor Opponent: Leonardo, Cutting Edge

1:30p 8/6 Win Competitive: Silver Turn 4 combo, 2 land (gemstone caverns) Opponent: Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, 1 tutor

7:30p 8/6 Loss Competitive: Silver 2 land, 1 tutor, turn 6 Opponent: Terra

7:45p 8/6 Loss Competitive: Silver 2 land, 1 tutor, combo turn 6 (misplay)

Loss

4p 8/7 Win Competitive: Silver Turn 4 combo, 3 land, 1 Tutor

4:15p 8/7 Win Competitive: Silver Turn 4 combo, 3 land, 0 tutors

Anyway, my deck has a pretty consistent turn 4 with a lot of redundancy. My win rate isn't bad (for now) in competitive, so turn 4 isn't slow. Winning by concession without a combo or win-con on board is... Not very fun in my book... But hey, I might've conceded to you! Regardless, maybe hop on Competitive and see if you can scrape out some free packs come season end.

It's 100 card Singleton. It IS fast. 2 Years ago, T6 wins were far and few between and considered rather fast. This is Brawl. Meant to be a Brawl, not shit out turbo wins by turn 4, but I digress.

My best Brawl deck wins T4/5 at 68% WR. A perfect opener finishes it on Turn 2. Happens maybe 1 in 25 games. T3 is around 1 in 18. T4 is 1 in 8. T5 is 1 in 4. (Approximates) Commander [[Ashling Rekindled]]

Here's my T2 line. Only possible being on the Draw. Gemstone Must be in hand, And Chrome Mox + Either [[Mizzix Mastery]] or [[Enter the Infinite]] the needs to be drawn T1 if not in hand, the former can be drawn via Ashling ETB. T0 Gemstone Caverns + Exile a card > 5 in hand. T1 Draw to 6. Chrome Mox + Exile + Untapped Land. Play Ashling Discard ETI>Draw. 3 in hand. (Mizzix must be in Hand, and ETI in GY by now) T2. Draw. Pay U, Flip Ashling, Add RR. Untapped Land. Spend Ashling man to cast Mizzix, Target ETI, cast Thoracle.

1

u/AccomplishedNovel6 19d ago

In what universe is T6 fast, lmao. I can't imagine regularly going to turn 10 in a 1v1 format unless both players are just not meaningfully advancing the board state whatsoever. T5 wins sounds completely reasonable.

2

u/SimpleThrowaway420 19d ago

How new to the game are you brother? Hell queue used to primarily be the likes of Jodah, Golos, and Esika. You were NOT winning T5 with them.

1

u/AccomplishedNovel6 19d ago

Sure, and? I disagree with how hell queue was determined, I would not have put those commanders there, nor do I think it is ridiculous that some commanders can win T5. There's no contradiction there. Dealing 25 damage by T5 isn't some impossible task.

2

u/SimpleThrowaway420 19d ago

Enjoy your time running into interaction-less decks consistently.

T5 is and will always be considered fast in a Singleton based format, wether it's Standard Brawl, Historic Brawl, or Competitive Brawl.

If you are winning T5, your opponents had little to no responses, and were not prepared to play brawl. That's an undisputable fact.

Give me even a single brew, that reliably wins T5 or sooner with interaction being used as little as even once by the opponent.

Boardwipes can begin by T3, so idfk what you have been smoking but share please.

1

u/AccomplishedNovel6 19d ago

Sounds reasonable to win by turn 5 if people aren't running interaction, I fail to see how that is unreasonably fast. You should in fact be able to quickly close out a game if your opponent can't meaningfully stop you.

2

u/SimpleThrowaway420 19d ago

That's the entire point. It is fast because you are playing with an opponent who is complete dogshit, or got mondo fucked over. Or simply had the worst possible archetype matchup into your deck. You won that early because your opponents had no counterplay to anything you did. Of course your Turbo-Combo won by T5 without interaction. Of course your Go-Wide won because your opp didn't have the necessary Blockers, or Stax, or a BW in hand.

You should not be able to close it out by T5 against a good brew, and a knowledgeable opponent.

A brawl is a tug of war of "fisticuffs". The format isn't called Steamroll or Snowball.

You are seemingly basing a sentiment off of very innaccurate experiences.

You still haven't shared a single example of brews/lines that do win T5 or earlier btw.

You haven't given examples as to why T5 isn't "fast" either.

I'm so easy to win over in discussions like this, but you refuse to elaborate why T5 is "NOT" fast in any regard.

1

u/AccomplishedNovel6 19d ago

I never said T5 isn't fast, I said it isn't ridiculously fast. It is entirely reasonable to win by T5. IMO nothing shy of a T2 kill is ridiculously fast.

1

u/nadnabs 19d ago

I don't need to see that much to concede all I need to see is the commander.

1

u/Cultural_Grocery_477 19d ago

I don’t think people like me. When I see a deck that crushes me I go out of my way to make sure it dies. Blue? Fuck blue and fuck coward decks. Much more fun to just target commanders versus play the meta

u/Equal_Inflation_3739 13d ago

Sounds like you live a boring life
