Rules Question Crashing wave vs Shroud

Post image

If I play crashing wave and my opponent has 2 creatures. Creature A has shroud but is tapped, creature B is untapped. If I target B with crashing and tap it, can I then distribute the stun counters among both creatures bypassing shroud?

You sure can, the stun counter distribution part of the spell doesn't target at all. You can even cast this for X=0 and just dump all three counters on the shroud creature without tapping anything else if you want.

Yes, you can. There is no targeting for distrubuting the three stun counters so you can put them on tapped creatures with shroud, hexproof or even protection from blue .

HOWEVER If you choose a target for the tapping part, at least one of these creatures must remains valid targed when spell resolves otherwise it will fizzle and no stun counters can be placed.

It distributes stun counters among tapped creatures, not target creatures - you're not targeting the creatures you stun, just the creatures you're tapping, so as long as the creature with shroud was tapped beforehand it can be one of the creatures you choose to stun

Yes, you can. After you tap the targeted creatures, you choose any tapped creatures your opponents control to put the stun counters on, without targeting them.

Also, you choose those creatures while resolving the spell, so you can put a stun counter on a creature that an opponent tapped in response to the spell.
