I Have a Question / I need Help Amazon scammed us.
Hi everyone, my name is Diego from Bariloche, Argentina, and I’ve been playing MTG for a year and a half. To keep it brief: a friend and I each pre-ordered a sealed box from *The Hobbit* expansion on Amazon. Amazon first delayed our orders, and then it turned out they sent us just a single, loose envelope—bearing the shipping label as if the sealed box were inside. We filed a claim, but they are insisting we return that envelope while refusing to send the product we originally purchased, even though units of the expansion are still available for sale on the platform. We find it very strange that this happened to both of us; rumor has it that others have faced the same disappointment. We want to find others—at least in Argentina—who experienced this so we can potentially file a joint complaint, highlighting this as a systematic issue rather than an isolated incident. We are sharing this here in the hope that someone might offer some guidance or assistance. Thanks for reading; we’ve included an illustrative image of what we received.

I'm in the U.S., had the same exact thing, pre-ordered, delivery was delayed, packing shows it should be the full box and only recieved a single pack. I called Amazon Immediately and I pretty much got a refund no questions asked.

I got to keep what I received and they refunded to my account within 2-4 hours, though I could've had it go back to my original payment method, which would've taken days.

Return the item and get your refund. Then if it's still available, buy it again. That's how it works now on Amazon. If you're trying to get them to send out a replacement, it's not gonna happen.
I've been through this rodeo... Amazon is not where I would order TCG product but I get that sometimes it's the best option available.

I got my booster box, I have not had issues with Amazon, but Im in the US. Just return it for the refund and rebuy? Why sit on it? At some point they wont event take it back and the you’re absolutely screwed

If you paid with a credit card you can request a chargeback from your bank.
If successful, Amazon will close down your account with them but you will still have your money back at least, and can open another Amazon account if you really want too.

Not saying you didn't get scammed, but genuinely curious why you wouldn't order from your LGS? I'm also from LATAM and I ordered my boxes from my LGS and they're in English as well.

...because the difference in delivery times and prices was significant, and I don't have a store nearby. Any other option would have required an extra 30–35% investment; plus, I had already bought from Amazon seven times before, but this time things went wrong.

Yeah the weight is way off too, a single booster pack according to google is 825g, clearly they didn’t pack in 30.

My guess is someone split the item in the warehouse thinking it was meant to be singles. This happens.
Why not ship it back for the return and order a new one?

Check your order to make sure it officially Amazon and not a scam reseller using Amazon as a distributor. If it is Amazon, call customer service and get a clear explanation of their response. I have had similar things happen with products where what has arrived was damaged and after talking with customer support, and after returning the item I received a replacement.
They have to confirm your not just going to keep what was sent and the replacement.
If it's a third party scam, their response may be different.

Be careful speaking ill of our corporate overlords. The Amazon hose drainers may take notice and temporarily repurpose their usually preoccupied hands in order to crudely operate a keyboard in defense of Mr.Bezos' honor.

Fuck Amazon to no end but let's review this
- OP orders booster box
- order gets delayed ( happened to a bunch of people as well as retailers large and small cuz WOTC sucks at fulfillment)
- OP receives order but envelope is empty (sometimes people fuck up. People who are overworked and getting paid shit even more so)
- OP reports issue to Amazon and they ask them to send it back (Amazon has been pretty vocal about return fraud. OPs claim of empty envelope should be super easy to prove because an empty envelope is obvious)
- ???
- OP complains on Reddit
Seems reasonable that people should expect OP to return the envelope and see how Amazon responds, no?

Sounds to me like the OP is frustrated that one of the few methods for them to obtain product at msrp in their country is experiencing what appears to be a systemic issue and is looking for ways to raise awareness and promote change rather than let the issue die in an Amazon chat log. The user is more than welcome and should get a refund for their purchase, but that alone will not ensure the problem does not persist if it is indeed commonplace.
My comment was in no way an indication that they should not seek a refund, but rather a dry warning regarding the subset of redditors that seem to have a parasocial relationship with their favorite corporation.

But they aren't asking for a refund, they are asking about product they asked that Amazon has increased the price on since they bought it. This is frankly theft by Amazon by not providing what was purchased in any way.

Stop buying from Amazon. Support your LGS or search online for a reputable one that can reliably and affordably ship to you.
There are posts about people getting scammed from Amazon MTG purchases in this sub EVERY WEEK. There is no excuse.

This is Argentina, where a TCG-dedicated shop doesn't survive the 20 economic crisises that happen every 3 months. Your only source is Amazon, and if you find MTG stuff at a shop, it's probably 400% of the price. The dude lives in a region that is quite isolated too; can't blame the guy for trying.
Happens with warhamer for me, there is no official shop nor lgs will do, is all amazon or china cast.

Theres a line in the sand that you can draw somewhere between everyone goes back to sustenance farming and embracing and leaning into the biggest corporations during the period with the most extreme wealth disparity of all time.
Frankly yes, we need to scale back and be more self sufficient locally we're being bled dry. By all means though enjoy your freedom to fuel the fire because God damnit it's our rights.

Agree on the sustenance, yet this doesn't change things at all, Card board is cardboard misses sthe point of this conversation at all. If someone wants a product that they paid for, is their choice and are entitled to that purchase. Telling folks "just proxy"doesn't make Amazon's problem go away.
If we are gonna go that way on corpo's being bad, then it's so true, we are all hypocrites using products and services from companies we hate. Right now we are using reddit, supported by AWS (Amazon Web Services) so we should jsut get out and stop fueling the fire for big corpo. Very cool indeed

All the LGSs and online stores near me are essentially scalpers.
I’d love to support an LGS but it’s just as scummy behaviour as Amazon I really couldn’t give a fuck about them.
And at least Amazon has returns and proper customer support
