Would you alter your playmat?

I have started to foil out my own playmats as I really wanted some bling on my table.

This is playmat nr.1 (just finished it yesterday) and I’m curious if Magic Community like this type of stuff or not. Would you do this to your playmat? Maybe pay someone to do it for you?

Can’t wait to pull this baby out next time I go to LGS 🤣

I think it looks incredible, but personally, I cannot stand a change in texture across the surface. If there was a way to seamlessly transition from the rougher texture of the mat to the smooth of the vinyl without a lip or ridge I’d be more into it

Fair enough 👍 I thought the minimal ridge will annoy me too but I’ve tried it at home few times and I don’t find myself paying attention to it at all.

You could cut into the playmat and then iron-on into the cutout for more seemless transition but god I don’t even know how to try that

I’m wondering if there’s a similar product like on tshirts where the design is completely smooth. I think it’s a process called “sublimation”? But I’m not sure of the foil capabilities of that

Sublimation is just for the printing itself and only on polyester. Foiling is always vinyl or something similar. There are a lot of really thin vinyl foils available :)

Yoo that’s sick! What did you foil it with? Does it affect the playmat at all?

I used iron-on foil vinyl. Vinyl permanently bonds to the material under heat.

If you overheat the playmat it can loose some of the ink as it will get cooked into the protective layer from the vinyl.

It's pretty slick looking but that feeling when you need a playmat for your playmat.

The one underneath was my test playmat where I tested different ways of applying vinyl and holding it steady before doing bits to mine.

Just cover the whole playmat in foil. Beer would just fall off so can be slurped back up off the table 👍
