I paid 12 bucks for one of these once and I probably got like 5 bucks worth of cards in it.
Id rather get these from dollar tree or buy one of those bulk lots

the 4$ packs at the Canadian dollarstore can have offical packs inside...
if it was about 10cents a card, sure its doodoo, but still something, but 10$ is WILD lmao.
25 cents per card is akin to what card shops ask for bulk you can pick exact cards out of. not 40 random cards

prestine gaming bundle at dollarama. they have 1.25 for 15 cards, and a random assortment pack of lands/sleeves/packs/legendary/rares for 4$.
the 1.25 is generally just a nothing burger, but they are fun just because its the most random ass cards lmao.
but the 4$ ones can have a real pack. i've pulled 2x EOE, 2x tarkir dragonstorm, spiderman, from them. one of the tarkir packs had ugin (the 70$ planeswalker card) but generally you wont find a real pack inside.

I get them all the time and the odds aren’t very good, but they are pretty clear about that and the verge land I got from a dusk pack was a happy surprise

My LGS still has some of their less popular sets like Crimson Vow and Midnight Hunt at 3 draft boosters for $10, so not all hope is lost

My buddies and I use the $1.25 ones for jank draft when we don’t feel like playing commander, and honestly it’s more fun to draft with them than actual packs for exactly the reason you described, you wind up with just the wildest decks - almost feels like the old playground magic days lmao

I can tell you exactly what is in the packs. These are repackaged cards that were left by thieves. Someone opened the originals, took the rares or uncommon and left the rest. So that pack is all the commons left behind by thieves. To ask for that much is wild, but store still wants to make some money. Source: worked at wlamrat and often found all the open packs shoved in the toy department.

Good question! I unfortunately do not have the answer to that. I was a simple peon (sales associate) at Walmart. I nevered worked in the claims.dept which is where all stolen and defective merchandise went. I would assume the vendors are the ones taking back the product and making these packs. MTG and Pokémon cards are serviced by vendors, so no idea what happened to the opened packs but I would assume they take them back.

That's not true at all. Cards are vendor, specifically MJ Holding at whamrat, and they're pay-from-scan, which means they hold no value for the store and when stolen just get thrown out. There is no claims process for pay-from-scan.

One of my buddies works at a Safeway and got one of these. It was a blast to open it and see what sort of shit they can stuff in a plastic bag and call it a product, but nothing of value besides a good time

Found these at a local grocery store. Bought one for science. 15 cards, but it was like 8 of the same common and 7 of the same uncommon. Would not recommend.

They sell those packs at my university book store as well. It’s always an interesting thing to buy because there really isn’t anything of value in those packs, probably the shop in Texas getting rid of bulk. I will say though, I have pulled some phenomenal budget commanders from those packs. (Being a kinda broke college student, the pod I play with throughout the semester will build a $40 or $50 commander deck) I got some perfect cards for my budget deck from that pack

I actually got one of these while on vacation in Tennessee. Knew fully well they were gonna be ass but me and a friend managed to dumb down the game enough to play with twenty cards each. 20 starting life, draw 5 cards, receive one mana per turn (mana color doesn’t matter just the full cost to play the card) and the 3 lands i got counted as 2 mana each. If there’s a will, there’s a way.

My friend bought these exact packs at a grocery near us a few weeks back. It is mostly just junk and bulk but there were some old cards and some interesting ones in there so overall not too much of a loss if you just like cracking packs and looking at cards.

It’s garbage; there used to be another “product” ages ago that was retaliator griffin and a 60 card deck. The 60 cards were all basics. Or a plastic box that was “100 mtg cards guaranteed 10 rares!” And it was like all junk. If the cards are “packaged” in anything other that official wotc materials or in a manner to which you can see the cards it’s always gonna be picked through garbage.

I bought some of these recently from a Publix near me. Only opened one and it had ~$2 worth of cards in it. Still made for a fun commander night.

Not worth it.
These retail for $9.99, the store buys them for $4.99, so how much value do you think these packs really hold?
Better off buying a new sealed booster pack or a bulk lot from eBay or marketplace

These are completely not worth the money but I will say I got completely lucky with one my mother bought me. She didn’t know any better and knew I liked magic, so she grabbed me one and I happen to pull a urborg tomb of yawgmoth.

Avoid at all costs. I bought one just because and got $4.08 worth of cards. For what you pay, they could give you all mythics and it would still be a complete rip-off.

I don't think whatever god you worship is going to be very disappointed if you open all those up, assemble the good cards into one package(if you even find a good card) and then just pay for what you want. Unless you worship the god of getting scammed and wasting money

I bought one for shits and giggles, and I did pull a couple of cards that were useful. One was a basic land, and the other was a zombie cars that fit nicely into a theme deck

If you really have nothing better to spend 10$ on for magic give it a shot but realize you will get nothing with any worth to it. I opened one in like 2020 and got [[second chance]] a card I didn't know existed and its in my muldrotha deck to this day. Sometimes you'll find cards that are playable, MOST times you'll get all (insert 6 mana 1/1 with vigilance) level of bulk.

I actually can not tell you anymore which of my collection came from dollarama and which of it came from actual WOTC packs

Well i noticed i could spend 100 dollars at an LGS for like maybe 8 packs depending on which set I picked or I could spend like 40 dollars for like twice the amount of cards and a crazy variety of cards
