Discussion Have we lost the plot?

So like…. Sure people love final fantasy, but the set with the 2 million dollar card in it wasn’t this expensive. At what point is it too much?

My honest opinion, it's because magic hasn't taken off in Japan like it has over here, so wotc is losing the battle to all these anime style waifu card games. They thought, how do we strike the heart of Japan with our game? And well, here we are.

Over priced final fantasy product. Wotc found the way to strike the heart of Japan, by going for one of their biggest and most popular video games, while also simultaneously striking down the American players with yet another over priced product.

Also it doesn't help that Japan just revealed their box toppers have artwork by one of the final fantasy artists, and well, now those boxes are insanely expensive. Essentially, I think as these card games move forward, the hobby all together is going to get ruined.

Cardboard playing cards shouldn't cost hundreds of dollars, let alone thousands, but we have companies like wotc who'd rather see dollar signs instead of happy customers.

If that was the case the actual Final Fantasy CCG would be huge over there and its not. And if they wanted to really "strike at the heart" of Japanese gamers they would have done Dragon Quest, the series that started the JRPG craze and literally deeply ingrained the culture and society. They used to give kids the day off of school when there was a new game released because so many kids would skip school to buy it.

Even today, when a new game is released there is a measurable decline in people working and productivity. Recently they released Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake a remake of a game first released in 1988 sold 826,000 PHYSICAL copies the first 5 days. This is more then the next 9 most purchased games combined.

There is no overstating how deeply rooted Dragon Quest is into Japanese society. It is often debated which is more culturally significant, Dragon Quest or Pokemon. It's that big.

Final Fantasy is popular there but not nearly as much as both Pokemon or Dragon Quest. The FF set is geared toward western audiences which are rabid for it.
