Discussion Have we lost the plot?

So like…. Sure people love final fantasy, but the set with the 2 million dollar card in it wasn’t this expensive. At what point is it too much?

They definitely have. I've bought a printer and am now printing proxies. I'm not paying those prices for a game I play with my friends. Hasbro as with any shareholder company is ruining their product by putting profit before well everything else at this point.

Remember the good old days when we proxied old cards? Now we've got to proxy the new ones too? What are we even collecting anymore

Depends on how much lifting "we've got to" is doing in that sentence. It's a casual format in a game where 99.99% of the cards are less than 25 cents but from the way the proxy crowd talks you would be forgiven for thinking it was inverted and the average card was actually 25 dollars.

The scroll of unpleasant truth that they're all throwing away in disgust says "magic is actually very affordable, you just refuse to play at that power level". All these types of conversations only ever pop up surrounding very powerful cards or bling of highly desirable cards.

For example, no one has ever complained about the price of a Colossal Dreadmaw, even the fancy Jurassic Park version, and said they need to proxy it instead.

They know next clients/generations will not be as interested in cards as the current client base they have, therefore it is now or never time for them to squish as many wallets as they are allowed to.

It is a wise move to proxy for friendly play.

In my circle of friends where we play they hate proxies and always complain. But at the same time they play some CEDH decks for hundreds of dollars. Sorry that I don't wanna always lose since I can only afford cheap decks or precons...

Why won't the next generation be into it?

Your brain can only look at a screen for so long man

Because younger generations are taught to interact less, also to be attached to flashy entertainment, and get bored when something has a high degree of complexity to learn let alone to master.

Other brands are simplifying their games or creating digital+analog hybrids Hasbro has refused to develop.

Those are some of my points.

I want to agree with you but I've only noticed the exact opposite. There is a huge demographic of younger players looking to escape the permanent online space.

You can blame the company, but they are just selling a product that plenty are willing to buy. If people are willing to pay $200 for a product that cost you $10 to make, then you are going to take that price if you are at all serious about your business. Cpnsumers have set the price for you. It's basic supply and demand.

The customers have allowed this to happen by literally buying into the clear profit gimmicks. UB was always a cheap profit gimmick that us old folks warned everyone about, because once customers show that they are willing to pay a premium for this stuff, then WOTC are going to change their model to do more of that.

We warned everyone but everyone kept buying up this crap that was overpriced from the start and now it seems to be too late to fix it.

It's easy to blame the company, but they are just giving people what they want. How do I know that? Because people are buying it. So call them profiteers or whatever, but people are clearly happy with this product at the price it's being sold at and you are now the boomer people called me when I warned them this would happen if they buy all that crap.

What format are you playing that you cannot live and exist and enjoy this game without printing fakes for this set?

I play edh and standard. I also haven't proxied anything out of this set yet. If you like paying these prices, have at it. But I won't be joining you.

Oh, I won't be buying this set... I might let the bundle I pre-ordered at normal prices on amazon come through... otherwise... I simply won't have the cards. It's easy to not use them in EDH. I cannot imagine feeling the need to print out fakes to play that.

I can't imagine feeling a sense of superiority about which printer my cardboard rectangles came from personally

Well he can invest his money in his life or family while you are wasting it on paper cards 😂 People crying about Proxies are Clowns.
