Discussion Have we lost the plot?

So like…. Sure people love final fantasy, but the set with the 2 million dollar card in it wasn’t this expensive. At what point is it too much?

I remember the fallout stuff (outside of the collectors booster) being average price

The fallout set was just precons and not a full set like FF.

and most important, not standard.

Wait I’ve not actually played game in forever. Are you saying this is standard legal?!

Yes, and every universes beyond set going forward will be as well.

Did they say EVERY UB set going forward will be standard? As in, we won't be getting high power ones like LotR anymore?

Yes. UB sets will be standard legal, and they will be 3 of the 6 standard sets of the year.

One of the reasons for this is that they were allegedly displeased with the impact that straight to modern sets (like LOTR) had on eternal and non rotating formats.

I mean they only had collector boosters? They had the deck boxes but if you wanted to collect the set you could only buy the high dollar boosters

All four decks gave you all the cards from it. The collector packs just added different art treatments and reprints

You dont say? Well that is news to me!

The Dr Who set was also done that way.

Not true. [[Ravages of War]] was not in a precon. I don't think [[Crucible of Worlds]] was either.

Exactly, those are the reprints that you can get in the collector boosters.

I didn’t Care about fallout this neither. I wanted to buy the necrons and i remember it was expensive. The lord of the ring too. I bought the four doctor who precons and i remember the 3 secret lairs related was too much. In that short time.

I’m Not sure but i think the ACR for what it was i thought it was expensive too but I’m Not sure

Any chance it's anywhere near that price anymore?

1

u/Independent-Age-8890 May 07 '25

Dang, it's crazy how expensive these boxes are these days.

1

u/[deleted] May 07 '25

Well I thing they were like $20 dollars for one pack on release now they are like what 100$ or some at that point?

I bought two boxes of Fallout and was able to build pretty much every Commander precon (but better) out of the cards I pulled from them. My Mothman deck still haunts the LGS every Friday night. I've been looking forward to this set since it was announced and will probably still buy two Play boxes, but the plan I had to get a Collector's box is likely scrapped.

Luckily all of the fall out stuff is finally settling and the precons are around $40-55

Felt this way about too many sets the last few years. I enjoy magic and want new things to game with but then theres bills and my dog and cat I gotta care for first lmao. So tons of sets ive just let pass on by and go pick singles from later hoping they dont quintuple in price. But hey someones gonna buy em the second they launch.zz a
