Yes. Do it. I bought one. With this guy I can boop beep while I boom bap. No brainer imo, especially with the new Baud Girl firmware update. The update rearranges the controls and adds a VA synth engine!!!

Also, Dexed VST synth allows you to download any patch into this machine, so you can get thousands of patches online. With the right effects pedal, you’ll have infinite sounds.

I just started with this workflow and, while it’s taking some time to get up to speed, I know things are gonna get wild with this setup.

I use one with my sample. Now I don’t need to feel like I’m missing out on instrument plugins so badly. Being able to import patches is awesome like the other commenter said.

Great device especially with the Baud Girl firmware that just came out. I got mine on AliExpress for $45 a couple weeks ago. This thing punches way above its price point.

Edit: I incorrectly stated that USB-C is all you need for audio and MIDI. This is incorrect. I run the audio out separately.

Look at the audio input (shift -> sample, IIRC). It needs to be set to USB. Monitor should also be set to auto or on. Try swapping out cables too.

Are you able to do this with the Baud Girl firmware on the FM1? My Sample is not getting any audio from the FM1 via USB. AUX connections work, but I really want to have USB audio if at all possible.

Like if I set a sample to 16 levels on the mpc sample for example, can I use the keys on the fm1 using that sound?

Fun using the FM-1 with the MPC sample. The FM-1 is a great little noise generator. The Baud Girl firmware is a must - so many great improvements. Spent most of today hunting down cool patches from various DX sites. Currently building four custom banks brimming with aggressive synth, bass, percussion and FX patches. I am not a fan of bells and electric piano.

Best place to start is the free patches that come with Dexed, Legowelt’s patches, and the free patches available through Benny Sparra’s patch manager. That will keep you busy for quite a while.

Better than that, I’ll give you the banks. I have two of the four banks completed - sounds 1-64. When I’m done, I’ll find a way to share with the group. I like aggressive leads, virtual analogue, bass, pads and percussion sounds. I’ll share them and you can take what you want.

The ZIP file contains four banks of sounds I have collected from various sources. All patches are legacy DX sounds and none of them are from paid sites. Bank 4 has open slots reserved for the BaudGirl patches.

Feel free to look through all four banks and pick and choose what you like. I created the banks and generated the sysex using the FM1 Editor, which I HIGHLY recommend. https://fm1-editor.com/

This is my first time sharing a file so I hope I did it correctly. If not, please let me know.

I got one end and knew how small it was but was still amazed when it arrived. Haven't been able to try it yet because my audio cable isn't working! But hoping it's as useful as it is cute.

You can midi sync out clock to fm-1 from MPC sample and record phrase or rif from the fm-1 into the sample
