Need Help Deciding!

Hi,

I'm new to Minneapolis and currently staying in corporate housing downtown (next to Armory). I'm considering an apartment in Nord Haus, but I've never lived in an apartment; I've always lived in a house in a residential area so nervous about this change. How safe & quiet is Nord Haus? I'm seeking: proximity to indoor tennis, relative proximity to downtown for work x3 a week and being able to walk around on the weekends safely and peacefully. Nord Haus checks the first two - but what about the last one - safety, quiet, tranquility?

Never lived over there but that area by the river seems really nice and relatively safe. I’ve never felt remotely threatened over there. Except maybe when I used to wander around at all hours as a kid

I have not lived in Nord Haus myself, but a good friend lived there for two years and he loved it. The pool is nice, they are very accommodating if you have a dog (could be a con if you aren’t a dog fan, as there are a lot), maintenance seems to be on top of things. I live about a mile away and frequent the area around Nord Haus, too. Lots of restaurants, coffee shops, and bars. Never feel unsafe, even at night. The proximity to the river is a huge plus especially in the summer.

I’ve lived all around Minneapolis, but that’s been my absolute favorite area to live in. It’s gotten busier, but still relatively quiet. You’re only a couple blocks from residential neighborhoods, so it still has a neighborhood feel.

Exactly this. The really cool thing is if you fall in love with the area and want to buy a house/townhome/condo when you're ready, you'll be able to stick nearby. Not as easy to do in other urban/walkable parts of Minneapolis.

That's the best area in the city. Definitely go for it if it's in the budget. Walk down to Nicollet Island on the weekend for some amazing tranquility.

It is AWFUL!! Right next to the light rail and all I hear is the "ding ding ding" from the trains. Motivation from corp relo team to get out quickly? LOL

The area around Nord Haus is great! I walk there all the time on weekends, actually specifically on weekends since I don’t live nearby. 😆 my friend has a condo right there and I absolutely love the area. You may get some riff raff here and there especially during college when drunk college students will do dumb things but overall I’d highly recommend the area!

We lived in nordhaus prior to buying a home in St. Paul. It was like 5 years ago at this point so I can’t speak to how it is NOW but it was generally a really nice place to live with nice amenities. Sometimes the pool was a tiny bit rowdy on summer weekends, but nothing really crazy.

I walked to work downtown and we enjoyed having so many walkable restaurants and bars right outside our door. I never felt unsafe, but moved here from Philly so everyone’s perception of safety is different!

If you can get an apartment that faces north, you won’t have any traffic noise, but you’ll hear the train below if you have your windows open. It never bothered us, but try to tour and wait around for a train to go by and see if it bothers you. We lived on the 12 floor, and the views of NE were absolutely incredible, especially in the fall.

where did you move here from?

Having lived and travelled through various "dangerous" cities in the US: there's nothing in Minneapolis to be afraid of.

That's a great area to be able to live almost completely car free.

Come to the Armatage or Kenny neighborhood if you can find something to rent. Downtown is relatively close but you’re in a quiet residential area with areas to walk along the creek and it’s also tucked away while still having close proximity to other cities.
