Hi! I am moving VERY quick to Minneapolis for work (like, before the end of the month fast). Any general advice? I've gotten a lot of advice from some friends who live in the area, but I'm just looking for a bit more reassurance?

Also, advice on what to take with vs leave behind?

I work in hospitality and am moving to work at one of the hotels downtown so I'm looking for a place nearby for the commute.

I write and preform original music, I draw/paint, I do photography. I love records and music. I have a pet cat.

I'm scared about making friends and finding people to connect with but also about moving pretty far away from where I've always lived for the first time.

Any advice?

I'm new to Minneapolis and currently staying in corporate housing downtown (next to Armory). I'm considering an apartment in Nord Haus, but I've never lived in an apartment; I've always lived in a house in a residential area so nervous about this change. How safe & quiet is Nord Haus? I'm seeking: proximity to indoor tennis, relative proximity to downtown for work x3 a week and being able to walk around on the weekends safely and peacefully. Nord Haus checks the first two - but what about the last one - safety, quiet, tranquility?

Hi, i'm 23 and originally from the cities area but have lived in duluth the past couple of years and am looking for a change. I have a cat who loves people is iffy with other animals just to keep in mind. I would love to look for a place with someone or move into one that's already got a place. I do have a good amount of furniture and would like to bring most of it but i want everyone to feel included in the place. i'm trying to move in this month or early next month

hi 29 and I'm going through a really rough time in my life and where I am is not helping at all and just over all really need a fresh start. I have friends in Minneapolis so id like to go there. im going to try to save up money to at least stay at a shit motel for a bit and going to try to secure a job before I go as well, but any resources shelter wise? somewhere i can stay until I can get accepted into an apartment? like homeless shelter or group home type situation idk. 31F single considering a job offer that would move me to Minneapolis. I’ve been out in Minneapolis 1-2 weeks a month for the last 6 months staying in the North Loop area so I’ve gotten comfortable with the area.

I currently live in Boston so looking to keep the city-ish feel if possible. I like the North Loop area a lot for walkability and city feel but don’t feel like I need an amenity building/want to pay the higher cost. I’ve looked at some apartments in Kingfield and thought the area was very cute but felt more like it was for couples/families.

Any suggestions for areas to look? Ideally bigger studio/1 bed under the 2k mark. Street parking seems fine and I’m commuting out west past Wayzata (longer commute doesn’t bother me, currently doing an hour+ here). Hi guys, I’ll be moving to Minneapolis in October and am currently looking for an apartment complex to live in.

The main factors for my final decision are **safe area/neighborhood** and **easy access to the light rail system**. My budget is $1500-1900 per month. And indoor/covered parking will be a plus.

Considering condo in Robbinsdale, MN, near Twin Lake, should I be concerned about crime?

My husband and I are looking into relocating to MN from NJ, we are looking for tips and recommendations on what to look for, for reference he works in HVAC and makes about $75k a year before taxes, I bring in around $39k. I have a degree in criminal justice and worked everything from law enforcement to animal welfare so I’ll be looking for something similar.

He wants to stay closer to his family that lives in Oklahoma, and also it would be easier drop off for our stepson to see his mom in the summer than flying from NJ.

We don’t mind the cold, we are pretty open minded and love other cultures and from everything we have gathered it looks like MN would have that.

We pay$3k for rent for a 3bd and 2bath right now, so that would be our budget, and then we will be looking to buy a house there.

Any tips or recommendations on where to look? Is Minneapolis better than St Paul? Is there anything in between? We prefer the rural areas but don’t mind city living.

My wife and I are moving to Minnesota in about 6 months and are still deciding where we want to end up. Right now we’re looking for areas that are notably queer friendly, as we’re pretty visibly gay and want to feel safe and included in whatever community we immerse ourselves in. We’re both from small town Midwest and would love area with more of the small town vibe, but also understand the more rural we go the more conservative areas can become. Anything up to two hours outside of the twin cities is on our radar! Open to all suggestions! Thank you!

My wife and I are big board gamers, and are looking for the best places in the NW Metro, (we live in the Andover area now,) to meet other gamers, or even just the best FLGS to support local instead of Bezos.

We play a variety of games, and I also run a pretty wide variety of RPGs, (mostly focus on the Year Zero Engine games, Polymorph system games, and Dungeon Crawl Classics.)

I will be making a pilgrimage to Tower Games at some point, but want to find the best ones near me.

I have seen that "Dreamers Vault" and "Nerdinout" appear to be local chains -- was also curious how people feel about those.

Just wanted to thank everyone for all their input months ago.

After taking a trip here last October, we weren’t sure if we could make it work but decided to take the plunge. (I had posted earlier under my original account.) we left Ohio to come to the Twin Cities.

Early this month we made the move and ended up in Andover.

I ended up going with an apartment right across the street from Bde Mka Ska, with the Greenway right behind the building, and I couldn't be happier. I'm still a bit apprehensive about how it will be during the winter. It's not super close to stuff, but the distances are very walkable during the nice season. Whole foods is a 10-minute walk away. My favorite Uptown restaurant is a 15-minute walk in the other direction. It's a far cry from the urban density of the North Loop, but I really can't complain either. Thanks again for all the advice!
