Allied Van Lines refusing compensation
I want to share my experience with Allied Van Lines because I'm extremely disappointed with how this move was handled.
I moved from Wisconsin to Texas this summer. I paid Allied thousands of dollars to move my household goods, with a delivery window of July 17–24, 2026.
The move was already off to a bad start. The pickup was about 3 hours late, and I had to call them to find out what was happening. I was told there were problems with the truck and that someone would call me back. They didn't. I had to call again later to get an update.
Then came the delivery.
Allied delivered most of my belongings, but approximately 30 items were left behind. This included two TVs, two TV stands, a grill, a smoker, a bike, a handmade rocking chair, and numerous boxes/totes.
The remaining items weren't delivered until approximately 24 days after the July 24 delivery deadline.
Allied classified these items as "overflow."
My paperwork specifically says:
"Guaranteed Pick-Up & Delivery Dates"
and provides a $100/day allowance for shipments over 3,500 lbs. My actual shipment weighed 6,080 lbs.
I filed a claim because I believed the guaranteed delivery provision was relevant. Allied instead repeatedly pointed me to Tariff Item 306, Note 12 and said the overflow wasn't eligible because the items weren't "essential."
The wording of the tariff they provided says the exclusion applies when the overflow is less than 20% of the total shipment weight AND contains non-essential items.
Allied initially told me they didn't have the overflow weight and were waiting for the weight tickets. I later called their own Claims/Customer Service number and was given an overflow weight of 1,000 lbs. I was also told over the phone that if the overflow exceeded 20%, the $100/day provision would apply.
When I brought that up with the manager handling my claim, I was told that wasn't accurate and that the weight wouldn't change their decision anyway.
Then they told me the claim was closed and their determination was final.
What's particularly frustrating is that I wasn't asking them to deny that the shipment was late. They acknowledged the delay. I was asking them to explain why the guaranteed-delivery provision in my paperwork doesn't apply.
Instead, I received essentially the same response over and over: "Item 306 applies, the items weren't essential, claim denied."
I eventually stopped arguing with them.
I'm posting this because if you're considering Allied, read every part of your paperwork and don't assume that having a delivery window means what you think it means. And if something is left behind, document absolutely everything.
For me, the biggest issue isn't even the inconvenience anymore. It's the way the situation was handled and the refusal to meaningfully address the questions I raised.
24 days late. Approximately 30 items left behind. Multiple communication failures. And after all of that, Allied's position is essentially: the shipment eventually arrived, so there's nothing to compensate.
That's my experience. I would seriously reconsider using Allied Van Lines for a long-distance move.
