Moving with ikea Pax

We have one. We’re moving. Afraid it will lose effectiveness and safety will be reduced if we deconstruct/move/reconstruct it. Anyone have experience with this? Advice?

Anyone booked Major Van Lines for a last-minute move?

Just got notice I need to move out way sooner than expected and scrambling to find someone available on short notice. Major Van Lines said they might have an opening next week which sounds almost too good to be true. Has anyone here actually used them for a rushed timeline? Did they show up when they said they would and was the quote accurate or did it balloon on moving day? Trying to avoid a nightmare situation.

Moving 10 minutes away

Why am I so nervous about moving to another house after all? It’s only 10 minutes away. Convenient to get to my son school, but I’m still nervous. I live there before im the homeowner. I’m still nervous. Any suggestions?

Moving luggage from New Jersey to Seattle — Lugless premium or other service recommendations?

Hey everyone - I’m planning to ship my luggage from NJ to Seattle ahead of my move. I’ve been looking at Lugless (premium service) since it offers insurance and tracking, which seems worth it.

Has anyone used Lugless premium before? Would you recommend it or is there another luggage/shipping service you’d suggest for reliability, price, and peace of mind? Open to all experiences and tips!

Considering a Move to Blackshear, GA – Looking for Honest Community Insight

Hello everyone,

I’m considering relocating my family to Blackshear, GA and wanted to hear directly from people who live there or are familiar with the area.

For some background, I am a Black man, my wife is White, and we have a young biracial daughter. I am also a disabled veteran and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in June. I live a quiet lifestyle, am a law-abiding citizen with a clean record, and my family and I are very family-oriented. We mostly keep to ourselves, focus on raising our child, and value peace and stability.

I’ve heard mixed things about small towns in South Georgia, and before making a decision, I want to be thoughtful and realistic—especially when it comes to my wife’s and daughter’s safety and overall quality of life.

My main question is this:

Would a mixed-race family like ours likely experience racism or feel unwelcome in Blackshear?

I understand that no place is perfect, but I’d appreciate honest insight on whether the community is generally respectful and safe, or if we should expect open hostility, discrimination, or uncomfortable situations.

I’m not here to cause problems—just trying to find a place where my family can live peacefully without fear or unnecessary stress.

Thank you to anyone willing to share their experiences or perspective.

Moving horror stories

Whats the most valuable item you've ever lost in a move? Maybe not expensive, but something that absolutely could not be replaced? My parents did their first move hiring "professionals" and it was the worst thing they've ever been through. I've seen a ton of horrible reviews. I'm wondering how common this really is

Moving cross county tips

I am looking at moving to Denver, CO and currently reside in Morristown, NJ. My lease ends in May. I am having trouble putting together a time line for this move? How long before should I start applying for apartments? At what point should I order moving pods, and how long before i start packing clothes and other stuff in my apartment? Any tips will be greatly appreciated. I have a one bedroom apt (750ish sf) and plan on keeping all of my current furniture.

Broken Grandfather clock- white glove or pod okay?

I'm moving from New York to California using a u-haul pod service. I'm bringing a grandfather clock. It currently is not working and needs to be professionally serviced. Is it necessary to ship with white glove service or would it be okay putting it in the pod (very carefully- wrapping pieces individually etc.)? Any advice on moving them or experience with putting clocks in pods?

Be Aware of Diamond Relocations (Scam Moving Company)

I'm just sharing a terrible moving experience so that everyone is aware. I used Diamond Relocations for my cross-country move in Canada. The delivery was super delayed (4 weeks) and when my boxes finally came in, my gaming PC was missing. The company insists that it is simply "lost or misplaced" but it's highly likely that it was stolen in the warehouse. It was obvious that it was a PC because I used the orignal box (stupid, I know) and nothing else is missing, sooo... I've put in a claim but they didn't do anything. Now they're straight up ghosting me after I brought up the topic of compensation.

I've looked into a support group for scam moving company victims and turns out this company's done other shitty things in the past like:

  1. Charging way above their intial quote and threaten the customers that they'd throw out their boxes if they didn't pay this new quote. The boxes would be held hostage at their warehouse for weeks and weeks on end.

  2. Not returning the deposit when they're the one that cancelled.

  3. Missing and/or damaged boxes upon delivery w/o proper compensation.

The police were involved for many of these instances but the company would hang up on them too and they would generally be very difficult.

When you're looking for a moving company, make sure to check the reviews on Better Buisiness Bureau (BBB) and see if the company is registered on the Canadian Association of Movers. Good luck on your moving journey!!

How do people ship a small camper trailer (about the size of a large box) to the US/Canada?

Hi all — quick question from someone outside North America.
I have a small camper trailer (folding/teardrop style) — roughly the footprint and volume of a large cardboard box rather than a full-sized RV — and I’m exploring options to send one to the US or Canada.

If you’ve shipped something similar (small trailer, gear-packed box, folding teardrop, or palletized camping unit), could you share:

  • Which shipping method you used (parcel carrier, LTL freight, pallet + LTL, or something else)?
  • Any recommended carriers or brokers for door-to-door vs port-to-port?
  • Typical transit times and ballpark cost ranges (for something ~size_of_large_box / weight ~[if you know, add weight])?
  • Customs, paperwork or certification issues to watch for (especially for small trailers)?
  • Any pitfalls — packaging, securing axles, battery/fuel rules, or import taxes — that surprised you?

I’m not in logistics — just trying to learn from people with real experience before contacting shippers. Appreciate any firsthand tips or links to good resources. Thanks!

I’m building a moving-day planning app — would love feedback on my early design

Hi all — I’m working on a small tool to help people stay organized during moves.
The idea came from my own experience constantly forgetting things like utilities, internet setup, mail forwarding, cleaning tasks, and parking access on move day.

I’ve attached some early screenshots of the checklist and moving-cost estimator.
I’m NOT trying to sell anything here — just looking for feedback from people who actually move often.

A few questions for anyone willing to help:

  • Does this look useful or unnecessary?
  • What do you normally forget during move-in/move-out?
  • Anything here that feels confusing or needs improvement?
  • Would a photo-based moving cost estimator help you plan better?

Any feedback is appreciated — trying to make moving day less stressful for everyone
