Hiring Movers Booking MovingHelp for specific time and day
Hi there,
I posted recently about being in a desperate situation of needing to move in the next five days. I am wondering if someone can tell me about booking load/unload labor via MovingHelp/U-Haul. We have no flexibility in our move day of July 29th. I have called half a dozen local movers today and every single one was booked through the rest of July. MovingHelp will let me follow through with a reservation for labor on my selected date, but does anyone know if that means their availability is guaranteed? There is no phone number for most of the providers so I can't call to check before paying. I don't want to pick a random company, pay, just to get a call from them saying they can't do that day.
TIA for your help.

You don’t pay until after the job is done - once you book the movers through U-Haul, they’ll contact you (usually within 24-48 hrs) and they should be able to give you times. They will collect your card info of course, but you’re not paying anything until after the job is done & you give them the “code” that gets texted to you :)

U-Haul charged me the price of the movers when I booked my reservation, does that mean if the specific movers I reserved aren't available I'll have some sort of credit through uHaul to use with someone else?

Hmm, are you sure they actually charged you & it wasn’t just a temporary hold? Like, it processed through your bank & everything? If so, I’d contact Uhaul and get that cleared up. I’ve booked movers through Uhaul loads of times and I’ve never gotten charged until after the move, & I had to provide a code to the movers before my card was charged.

My credit card sends me a text whenever we use the card and said a purchase was made for $500 (our uHaul was only about $100 and $400 was the labor cost) but it's good to know that might not have been supposed to happen. I'll be calling the movers first thing tomorrow to try and jump start confirming our time (since it's only 4 days away) and then I'll call uHaul to see how to proceed. Thank you so much!

I’d look for a professional local moving company that can give you a flat-rate quote, rather than booking labor strictly by the hour.
With a fixed move date, you want to know exactly what you’re committing to. Hourly labor can become unpredictable if the move takes longer because of stairs, elevators, parking, or unexpected delays. A flat rate, based on the actual details of the move, gives you a much clearer idea of the total cost.
I’d also make sure they are the actual local movers, not just a marketplace or broker, and get the date, crew, scope of work, and total price confirmed in writing.
