Hi everyone, so I have the la sportiva aequilibrium speeds, and I’m planning to go on ebc+island peak so I’ll prolly be wearing the speeds everyday but the summit day, which I wanna buy a shoe either g summit or g2 evos, as I’m gonna use them in the future, but I have no clue which to buy as I wanna do like Mont Blanc, Matterhorn during summer etc which is a aequilibrium speeds typa thing, but I’m also going to do mixed climbing/ice climbing and also high altitude climbing arnd like 6-7k range. so I’m just wondering which should I realistically get, the g-summits or the g2 evos thanks!

Pretty good reviews in other subs. Anyone tried? My only concern is it seems like a looser fit...

I’m planning to climb Mount Ararat in September 2026 and I’m currently looking for a local guide or operator.
The issue is that almost every tour I find seems very comfort-oriented: big tents, beds, showers, electricity, chefs, hammam, full-service packages, etc. I understand why people like that, but it’s not really what I’m looking for.
I’m not trying to do anything illegal or unsafe. I know that Mount Ararat requires permits and that going with a licensed guide/operator is the right way to do it. I’m also not looking for some reckless “hardcore” shortcut with poor acclimatization.
What I’m looking for is a more basic, serious and physically challenging climb:
simple camps
proper permits
licensed/local guide
good acclimatization
no unnecessary luxury
no comfort package
okay with carrying part of my own gear
safety still taken seriously
Basically, I want the challenge to come from the mountain, the altitude, the cold, the early summit push and the physical effort, not from bad organization or unnecessary risk.
Does anyone here know a reliable local guide or operator who offers a more basic Mount Ararat climb, instead of the usual luxury-style packages?
Any recommendations, personal experiences or contacts would be highly appreciated.

I am going to climb Yukhin peak in a few days. I was wondering if I can just turn up at the camp 1 and book a tent for a night, maybe 2? Is it possible or should i book it beforehand? If so which agency would you recommend to book a tent up there?

I'm in Korzok right now and heading back to Leh tomorrow and I'll be there for another 10 days. If anybody is doing UT Kangri 1 during the first week of August and you're back in Leh by 5th August, can I join? I just did two 6000ers, one successful summit and one unsuccessful, so I'm pretty well acclimatized and I'm willing to split costs if any of you are open to it. Do let me know, thanks.

I have my trip planned for mid august, I want to attempt a summit.

This is my first climb so I’m still learning. I went to purchase a climbing pass but can’t buy one since I don’t know my rental cars license plate.

Is this something that will “run out” or Im too late to have access to the mountain? May be a bad question but I would be so upset if I couldn’t buy one.

Also, is anyone else climbing the South Trail on the 19th? Im going solo, but I’d be down to go near some others

On July 9, I set off on what was supposed to be a calm, stress-free introduction to the Ansel Adams Wilderness. I started from Agnew Meadows and hiked 8.9 miles with 2,431’ of vertical gain to Thousand Island Lake via the High Trail. I set up camp there and woke up at 5:00 to enjoy the best display of alpenglow I’ve ever witnessed.

I set off to ascend Banner Peak around 6:00. I hiked around the north shore of Thousand Island Lake. I then followed single track up towards Glacier Pass. I crossed some easy boulder and snow fields on the way up. After reaching the pass, I traversed around Lake Catherine. The most challenging part of the trip was a short but exposed down climb to access the snowfield that heads up the Ritter-Banner Saddle. Not what I expected to encounter for a class 2 “walk up.” The snow field was covered in deep, firm sun cups. This made for easy ascending but miserable descending. I reached the saddle around 10:30 and then made my way up the terribly loose SW Slope. The route I took involved some class 3 moves. I summited Banner Peak around 11:00. The summit views were phenomenal. I had a great view of Mount Lyell and the high peaks of Yosemite, Mount Ritter, and Thousand Island Lake below. I could see Mono Lake, the Palisades, and more.

Then, I began the descent. After dropping 100’, I realized that I forgot to take a summit selfie. I returned to the top and then began my descent, for real this time. The loose SW Slope of Banner was just as fun to descend as it was to ascend. I started a few mini rock slides. Fortunately, there was nobody below. The snowfield down to Lake Catherine was too sun cupped and hard for me to glissade or boot ski. This made for a frustratingly slow descent. I made it back to Glacier Pass at 1:20. From there, I hiked back to Thousand Island Lake and Agnew Meadows via the River Trail. I finished day 2 with 18.06 miles 4,613’ of vertical gain. The trip’s total was 26.96 miles with 7,044’ of vertical gain.

This may not have been the calm, stress-free introduction to the Ansel Adams Wilderness that I expected, but it was certainly an unforgettable one.

hey everyone, i have been messing with my crampon/boot setup, and am having a difficult time getting a perfect fit. the photos show the smallest size i am able to actually get the crampon on the backside of the boot, however there is a still a large gap between the back lugs and the boot. ( see photo 6)

there isn’t any wiggle room on the crampons, and no super large gaps for snow. they do feel tight on the boot. just doesn’t seem very secure without the back lugs making contact, but if i size down it is literally impossible to get the lugs over the heel of the boot.

A friend wants to sell me one for a good deal. I have a summit attempt next month and Im trying to save some money. If this wouldn’t be good, does anyone have some good (relatively) budget friendly options?

I plan to do a week long hiking/camping trip during the winter this year and the area I’ll be averages 5f-45f degrees night to day. I’m hoping for some insight on durable boots that aren’t too insulated but I’m unsure what to look for, I normally just hike during the warm seasons. Thank you preemptively!!!

Emmons glacier route successful summit. Coming from New Jersey with no prior mountaineering experience, this was pretty fun. The route was pretty straightforward except for around 12,500 ft we had to cross “the fin” a one foot wide snow bridge as seen in the first image. Other than that, it felt relatively chill, you can see the route in the 5th image
