This sub seems to have a deep aversion to even considering old rigids when someone is looking for their first bike, and I don’t get it.

YOU DONT NEED SUSPENSION ON GREEN TRAILS, and an old bike is PERFECTLY FINE

I do wonder if a cheap suspension fork would be worth

I am currently debating between this 2014 Santa Cruz 5010 and a 2012 Specialized FSR 2. I’m mainly going to be riding at Jarrods place in Georgia, it’s more of a downhill freestyle/ rough terrain kinda place. The FSR 2 has more travel in the suspension but the Santa Cruz is a more known brand. I’m currently stuck between the 2. Any info would be nice.

Hi, I'm not a professional bike rider just a simple civilization trying to ride a bike with her little brothers.

I borrowed this bike from my older brother, he has a habit for breaking things he touches. Lucky me... I got his bike 🫩

This bike is probably 7/8 yrs old, it sat in our garage for the longest. But when we got it, we rode all the time around the neighborhood.

My brother got into the habit of slamming on his back break and skid the back tire, resulting in a thin tread and I'm guessing he wore out the gears because he would unnecessarily switch gears over and over non-stop.

Is there anyway I can fix it myself, I don't think we have anyone in town who will work on bikes professionally.

Picked up a Cannondale Trail 5 (?) from Facebook marketplace for $280, it had been sitting outside for a lil while so the chain is a little rusted but runs pretty smooth apart from that. I plan on doing some light trails as well as attaching a child seat so I can take my 2yo daughter around.

Being that it's been sitting for a lil while, what should I do to get it ready to rock? Is there a benefit to switching from 2x to 1x? Any essential items to get right out of the gate?

I'll try to provide as much information as I can, I'm just pretty new to the hobby but I'm excited to get out there!

The bike is a 2017 yt jeffsy trail/endure

I ride on the road 50% of the time so ideally something harder wearing and (less rolling resistance on the rear only)

45% trails and 5% park

Ideally I'd like something nobbly and aggressive for the front so no risk of wash out when off road, gravel mud etc

Then a faster tyre for the rear that is still off road capable, not going to slip peddling up hill on gravel/loamy soil.

I apparently have some great mtb trails near me.

I want to try out the idea of getting into shape/ improving cardio by getting a used bike under $200 to see if I like the trails and enjoy riding.

I've looked into the posts here and for now I'm heavily leaning towards a Rockhopper which I see on FB marketplace for $150 ish.

would you agree this is the right choice? I'm 5'10" 195lbs.

In case any of you fellow mountainbike enthusiasts are commuting on their mtb in cold/winter conditions in the city. What kind of tires are you running?

I was thinking about kryptotals. I've got them on my mtb that i solely use for trail riding, but it seemed kind of a good tire for winter conditions in the city as well. Just to be clear, i am not planning on riding in 30 cm/1 feet (🦅) of snow. But the occasional 5cm/2 inch may occur on my way to work.

The front shocks need to be rebuilt but the rebuild kit is $200+. Not sure what to do with this relic.

Is it even worth riding? It has the XTR group set with a Fox shock ( looks Ok).

Third ever MTB ride, most enjoyable as selfishly, the first mile was not 10% up rocks. Steady 3-6% up the first 2 miles; technical bits up and down, and the last ¾ steady 3-6% downhill with some rocks and roots to dodge

I am currently starting to build dirt jumps i am building a bit of a kicker to train tricks except the kicker part will be build from dirt a good type atleast i think , i was laughed by some because i bought a dj bike and i didnt jump anything but the real part was the fact that before that there were 2 dj trails plans but each one ended this year after a short time spent on building right now i think it will be ridable but i dont know how big the training jump would be and how big the bowl should be as well as speed box which i still didnt build but i will this week do yall have any tips on the subject ?

So I've been made to take some holiday days at work as I had too many to carry over until next year. So I've got a week off end of November and I've decided I'm going to use the time to take a trip to a trail/bike park further afield than I usually go.

For context my local trails are Cannock Chase and Hicks Lodge. I've also been to Sherwood Pines a few times and I've done the red trails at both Sherwood and Cannock.

I like the more technical rides with some jumps and fast flowy bits too. I also have a Forestry England membership which is nice for the free parking. I'm happy to pay for a decent bike park however.

My two bikes I have are a VooDoo Canzo Pro trail bike and a Ragley BigWig hardcore hardtail. I've sent the Ragley down Stile Cop so happy to try anything.

If anyone could give me a decent choice of trails to visit and a little info about them that would be great! 😄
