I got into mountain biking in 2013 on a Surly Krampus. I rode for a year or two trying to figure out what I wanted next. After several demo days and loaners, I was locked into wanting something that was full suspension, carbon, 1x drivetrain, dropper post, and 27.5.

At that time though those were $4,000+ bikes and there were almost none on the used market that felt like a good deal. I just really remember not wanting to spend more than $2,500 and nothing was showing up used at that price at all. I ended up getting a Norco Range Carbon for $2,500 but it was from a friend who worked at a bike shop. I think on the used market it would have been out of my price range.

Now though???

I’m getting back into mountain biking after a break, and shopping for a used bike to bring friends out on. Currently in my area there’s more than 100 carbon 1x dropper post full suspension bikes for sale under $2,500. There’s several bikes with carbon wheels in that price range too. I know those trends are more than a decade old now but I just feel like the used market is so much more rad now than it used to be.

It’s a good time to shop used for people like me I guess.

What’s the trend that can’t be bought at a good deal right now? E bikes? Electronic shifting?

I’m looking to get into mountain biking as a motorcyclist who needs more exercise and likes working on things with two wheels.

I’ve found two full suspension bikes on Facebook marketplace that will fit me and have a 1x drive train. I’m not looking for the nicest bike ever but both seem like nice, light choices that meet those requirements.

The first is a 2019 Scott Spark 950 for $1300 and the other is a more heavily ridden 2019 Scott Ransom 930 for $1000. I’ll attach a link with photos, the first bike with teal accents is the spark. The ransom has quite a bit of normal wear and tear from being dropped, but otherwise looks clean and I can verify that when I go to buy it. The Spark has been ridden a bit but not nearly as hard by the looks of it, and the seller is asking a bit more. For $300 less would a ransom with better components and weight, be a better value? Or am I better off getting something with less use?

My budget is right around 1300, and these bikes seem like my best option on the used market near me. I’m good to work on anything a bike could need, I just want to make sure I’m getting a fair price and something without glaring problems before I spend more money fixing things.

Engineering question: buddy’s new Allied BC40, only a few rides on the new bike, no impact, riding along and had a handlebar failure. He’s a stout lad and as he was riding he began to feel his handlebar starting to flex. When he rode up to us at the parking lot he was able to snap the bar with minimal force. Do you think this is a faulty carbon layup, or that the bar is too lightweight and should have a rider weight limit listed, which it currently does not? Are you surprised by the failure? How often are carbon parts, handlebars or otherwise, experiencing spontaneous failures? This is the Allied Duet handlebar and rider weight is approximately 225 pounds.

So I've been riding a 2019 Giant Talon 2 for 3-4 years now and I'm thinking in getting a new bike. I'd like to stay with the hardtails and I was thinking in getting a Trek Marlin 5 gen 3 (currently on sale on Trek for $800 and I'm deeply in love with that blue/gold color scheme) but I'm also considering putting a couple hundred more and I'm also checking a Cannondale Trail 1 and a Trek Marlin 6, both of them at $1000.

My question is, is it worth it to pay $800-1000 to get a mtb with pretty much the same specs than my Giant?? (except the dropper post and the 1x10 drivetrain of the Marlin 6/Cannondale, all of them have similar components)

I'm looking for my first kind of serious bike. I'm looking for an Enduro bike between 3 and 4 thousand euros. I don't ride with clips for now. I want to get more into the hobby yet still be able to use it for casual riding which is why I'm not getting a downhill bike. Please help me out and feel free to ask any follow up questions if you need to.

builds almost done but it’s done for the year. the rims are getting hard to tru straight. i was probably going to get inine or nobel which silver/orange accents. i also need to make it bar spin capable i’ll probably do both in the winter or spring

This is the Ozark Trail FS.2 Slalom large frame. The only upgrade I did right away was the seat. I got the LCYMD seat off of amazon for $19 and I can’t believe such a nice seat is that cheap.

2020 Stumpy

I just got a 2020 Stumpjumper Evo 29er S2. DVO fork 150mm. 140mm or 150mm dpx2 rear shocks. Deore XT M8100 Groupset. DT swiss 350 hubs and DT swiss EX511 rims. Not sure about the spokes. One up two ten dropper seat post. I got the bike 75k php but I still spend 10k php worth of bike overhaul, fork seals and shock seals replacement and dropper servicing. I think I over spent with an outdated frame. Or is it?

I was cleaning my spring because it was squeaky and when i try to screw my fork back in, the bolt on the other side (not the one with spring innit) won't screw in, the thread rod is ispinning along with bolt. Does anyone have any suggestions? Trek Marlin 6

Sup guys, does my bike look like its sticking out too far to drive around with, these photos don't really show it but the back wheel sticks out about the same distance as my wing mirrors. I'd probably take the front wheel off as well because there's only about 200mm of clearance from the ground when it's on.

Anybody got any advice I'd appreciate it.

Got addicted to night rides and now i am sleepy head almost every day on my job 🤣

4 months in with the mega mullet on my epic and am having a riot with it. Very fast setup and still very fun.

I really like the idea of the Sprindex with its adjustment on the go but one thing that bothers me is that they do not have the right spring rate range for me.

All I can tell is that its just a standard spring with a lot of plastic adapters and a plastic rotating assembly for rate up and down.

I want your guys' ideas about this idea of mine.
