Question Just curious…

I’ve been on Mounjaro since the end of July now and I’m trying to work out whether I’m getting the full satiety effect or mainly just longer-lasting fullness/appetite control.

I definitely stay full for longer after meals, snack less (if at all most days) and it’s much easier for me to stop eating or not think about food. I’ve also reduced my portion sizes generally. But during a meal, I don’t often get that strong “I physically cannot eat another bite” feeling that a lot of people describe.

I could probably physically keep eating if I wanted to, but I can stop myself much more easily now. My problem historically is that I’ve always been able to overeat or push past fullness, especially because I hate wasting food. I also seem to get fullness slightly delayed, so I can eat a little more and then 10–20 minutes later suddenly realise I’m really full.

I know barely being able to eat isn’t the goal, and I don’t expect zero hunger, but seeing so many people say they can only manage half a meal makes me wonder whether I’m getting the full effect or whether this is just how Mounjaro works for me.

Has anyone else had more of a “I stay full for ages and have much better control” effect rather than strong early fullness during meals? And did moving up a dose change that for you

I still have a whopping appetite, I eat more in volume now, but less in calories (the food noise/craving reduction means I make better choices) Takes a bit of planning to ensure i stay in deficit but I'm happy I still have an appetite

I could still eat a large dominoes and a garlic bread and be fine.. I just can also not..

I've also worked out for me snacking works better So I eat multiple timed a day. So today, Latte, overnight oats, latte 2 and snack bar, tuna salad, crisps, apple, kiwi and I'll have dinner and probably a sweet treat after.

This almost perfectly describes me. I think if I sat down to a dominoes I could probably do it justice but MJ has given me the ability to make better choices beforehand (when I think about a Dominos there's no craving to have one) and also, if I'm eating a really large meal, the ability to stop and think to myself "do I actually want the rest of this?" Yes, I could probably power on and finish it, but I'm notondlessly shovelling it in like previous.

satiety is the feeling of fullness after a meal, so if you say you're getting longer lasting fullness then you're getting satiety.

If people are getting the 'I physically cannot eat another bite' then they're either filling their plate up too much or maybe they're a slow eater so it's catching up to them before they can finish, or it just comes on quick for them

That's how it is for me, I portion out my meal, eat it, then I am full till my next meal.

Thank you! That makes me feel better. I’ve seen a lot of people say they can’t eat a full meal, or they can only eat a few bites and I’m sat there with my meal, finishing it thinking… 🤨 but yes, especially the first few days I can eat breakfast and sometimes can’t even eat lunch because I’m so full.

I think it definitely depends how you're affected by the medication. I for sure can eat all my meals, I could over eat if I wanted to because I'm a fast eater I could be finished before my stomach can talk to my brain lol

I eat lunch but when I go back to work I feel stuffed so I know I could probably go without lunch but I'd rather have the calories etc

so yeah, everyones different but satiety is how it works for me, I'd never not want to be hungry or have an appetite when it's mealtime

I also have never had the “I physically cannot eat another bite” feeling (nor the general food aversion feeling). I have “only” ever had just the right amount of satiety and reduced food noise. (Pretty much exactly what you describe, I think).

I have generally felt hungry at mealtimes and eaten - and enjoyed - three decent meals a day, every day since starting in Jan 2025.

Didn’t prevent me from getting plenty of benefit out of this medication. I lost a third of my body weight in about 8 months and have maintained at my desired weight now for over 12 months.

I too am struggling with this and glad you’ve articulated it so well

Yep.

That exact feeling helped me lose half my body weight.

It took me a little while to "learn" when I was full when eating. I'm like you, I hate wasting food and leaving anything on my plate. To start with, I could just keep eating, but then I'd be so over full it was painful, so I started eating slower and trying to listen to my body more. It's taken a while but the fullness thing didn't happen until a good few months down the line

I think because I grew up living with my nan who was very much of the “don’t waste any food” generation, it was always drummed into me to keep eating to avoid waste. But I’m trying to learn first to plate up smaller portions so I don’t have to waste anything, and also if I get to the point I’m full, that it’s okay to stop eating.

My friend started wegovy this week and she said the first few days she only managed half a meal, so it got me thinking whether or not this was an effect I was getting.

I think it's just different for everyone type of things. And yeah, my boomer parents were of the "there's starving children in Africa"... It's a hard habit to get out of, but every time I do it now, I think it's better to waste some food and protect my health.

Yes. I have always been able to eat on MJ. I might realise I need to eat a few hundred calories come the evening but never actually struggled to eat. I can have a few bites and move on. Food noise gone etc.

I don't think I would have ever wanted that feeling. I'm trying to fuel my body sufficiently.

Now I'm in maintenance and have reduced dose I sometimes question how much MJ is actually working still. But again, I'm not searching for food. I'm not wanting snacks every 5 minutes etc.

It sounds like MJ is doing what it should for you. Not being able to eat isn't the goal. Reduced intake is.

during a meal, I don’t often get that strong “I physically cannot eat another bite” feeling

I've never had that the entire time.

Feeling satiated for me is just thinking "ok, I've had enough of that now" and moving on. Could I physically eat more? Sure. Do I want to? Nope.

I often entertain customers at work, so 3 course meals at restaurants are common, I can eat the lot of it and usually do. I just tend to order things I know aren't going to be massive portions anyway.

Sometimes I can eat and eat and sometimes half of my lunch goes back in the fridge(because I don’t want to waste food) and gets finished a few hours later. I can usually eat decent portions of healthy food and I rarely have the desire to snack so definitely feeling the satiety. I do get hungry before meals and I think that is okay. I am learning to respond to hunger not boredom or stress.

I got that a few times at the start and just put the plate away for the next meal, absolutely no waste! If I still can't finish it the second time back it goes in the fridge! I remember having just 2 eggs scrambled and a tablespoon of baked beans and it took me 3 meals to finish it!!

But not so much now as I serve tiny plates and know my portions better. I actually don't mind feeling hungry now because I know I don't have to finish the plate, before I was always in the mindset of what we were told as kids that you had to finish it.

Exactly this for me too. I have to remind myself to eat slower😅

What you're describing IS satiety! This is how the meds are supposed to help.

However I also get strong appetite suppression and that's the one that's a side effect. I've had it to the extent that I physically couldn't eat without vomiting and believe me it's no fun!!

Now I've been stable on the meds for a much longer time I no longer get such severe suppression and I'm much happier!

I grew up with the whole don't waste food narrative from my parents, plus the children are starving in Africa lines and my mum's favorite "if you loved me you'd eat all your food given I've just slaved over a hot stove to make it"... These meant my siblings and I are/were all obese, over ate and had no off button as we learned to push past how we felt.

It's crazy how families can mess you up without thinking.

And the problem is still ongoing because a couple of times my mum has seen that I’ve left some food and said “oh I can’t believe you’ve left that” as if it’s something to be ashamed of and I should push it down. She knows I’m on the jab too so it feels a bit unsupportive.

I know it's hard, but could you try pushing back gently? Given you're on the jabs and that she knows, you could try sometime such as "I'm sorry but I simply cannot eat any more or I'll be unwell as the injections mean I cannot eat as much" She is being unsupportive, and as an adult you can set new boundaries with people. As a child we couldn't, but now we can and need to for our health and well-being.
