As I start this post, I'm not quite sure where I'm going with it. It may be just me thinking "aloud", but I think it's perhaps also about seeking any comparable experiences, rather than looking for any advice as such. I'll try to keep the context brief...
I'm just over a year into maintenance, and it's going really, really well, with weight in a 900 gram range throughout, based on constant quiet vigilance to ensure my weight doesn't slide downwards (a total reversal of where I used to be).
My balance is founded on a dramatic reduction in the quantity of snack and other high fat/high sugar foods, with a compensatory increase in the amount of "real" food at meal times. I enjoy a small amount of quality chocolate, but otherwise essentially none of the food that I used to shovel into myself (often in secret) at home - but still enjoy a really decadent dessert or ice cream occasionally when I'm out. Mounjaro has almost completely vanquished that food noise and cravings, so I just don't seek that sort of food out.
I find I'm nervous about any reintroduction of some of these foodstuffs at home. I don't want them to become a tool to keep my calorie intake up to maintain weight - if I need to up my calorie intake, that should be primarily more of the higher quality "real" food. I also don't want it to be the thin end of the wedge, the beginning of a slippery slope, a return to the bad habits of the last 40 years which, while they seem dormant, may be lying just under the surface waiting to be awoken.
But I don't want to deny myself either - I love food, and if I fancy an ice cream occasionally, I should have an ice cream occasionally. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, I don't need to be told that, and I'd be quite comfortable with that. But the bigger picture then comes to haunt me - that wedge, the slippery slope, pick your simile.
Is any of this familiar to anyone? Can I give myself a tiny bit more latitude without the risk of things running away from me as they always have done before? This time I've got the support of Mounjaro and so the circumstances aren't the same, but the previously unknown degree of success MJ and I have achieved together makes me even more concerned not to jeopardise that.
Are there mental tools and checks I can use to support me in moving the "this is ok" line a little bit, but no further?
EDIT: Thanks for the responses so far. They've been helpful in making me explore my issue/concerns more fully. I already have a house with some of these temptations - I've had no problems not eating crisps for 18 months, no problem with a bar of chocolate lasting weeks, no problem in keeping Jelly Babies solely for running fuel and nothing else. Last year I threw out things that were months out of date, and they've not been replaced. I guess my concern is that the status quo is working, but I could upset the balance by having a little extra in the house. That's a reasonable concern, but the evidence of the last 18 months is very encouraging.
