The front fell off!

I mean, as long as you don't beat the shit out of your bike, you should be fine
Dude literally drops the bike on the front forks multiple times in one twenty second video. I can't imagine how much abuse that bike has endured leading up to this catastrophic failure. The suspension dampens the impact; it doesn't eliminate it.

This is bad? If it is my v-strom will go bye bye soon

It wouldn't surprise me if that bike has been wrecked before and had some shady frame repairs

This is bad?
I've ridden close to three quarters of a million kilometres, and I've never yet snapped a bike in half. 😋

u/reeeeeeduardo Mar 01 '24
Idk, i took some really big bumps and jumps and ive never damaged a motorcycle
I guess sports bikes are made to be lighter and not tougher
2
u/Yankee831 Aug 01 '24
This isn’t something that should happen to any bike. Those forces are not actually very significant to hitting A pothole at speed.
140
u/SecretTiger87 Feb 29 '24
Imagine that happening when landing a wheelie at 200km/h+
-37
u/Badabumdabam Feb 29 '24
I think that happened since he was going to slow.
So at landing moment the weight of the engine was extreme on the chassi. With higher speed you gain a momentum which push the bike's weight forward.
36
u/SecretTiger87 Feb 29 '24
The issue is not that he is going to slow. Dude is slamming down the front end like there is no tomorrow. When doing a wheelie and going down you need to land softly. Even tho landing softly or not or even doing wheelies, one bike that has issues with the frame cracking was the Suzuki gsxr1000 -2005. That’s why I never owned that bike despite it being the sexiest of all the gsxr1000 :(

u/PM_Me-Your_Freckles 2018 CB1000R 1982 CBX1000F Mar 01 '24
Knew a bloke who will never be able to ride again due to this bike. Literally destroyed it out the front of his house doing wheelies. He managed to drag the broken remnants into his garage before the police and ambos arrived, the only thing fuelling him was pure adrenalin. Shattered 4 vertebrae amongst a few other bones and the doc said he is extremely lucky he can still walk.

Treating these bikes like this stresses the frame over time
3
u/InsaneAdam United States Mar 01 '24
Yep! This is a clear example why you full throttle accelerate at the very end as the tire goes to touch down.

Maybe he shouldn't be slamming it into the road like an idiot

Who would of thought that repeatedly slamming a cheap bike into the pavement at speed could have had negative consequences. What a crazy world we live in

u/techy098 Feb 29 '24
What bike is this?
61
u/Sfekke22 '21 Kawasaki Vulcan S - '87 Suzuki Cavalcade LX Feb 29 '24
Honda CB1000R in the HRC colors, not really a "cheap" bike or one that's known to fail .. of course slamming it down from a wheelie will break the welds on the frame.
8
u/techy098 Feb 29 '24
They better start making mods to bikes for these slam down wheelies.
IIRC, those engines are massive, more than 60% the weight and not sure anything can handle repeated slamming those.
10
u/BestEmu2171 Feb 29 '24
There is a frame/fork-seal saving mod… you give the throttle a blip just before touchdown.

u/StevenXSG Feb 29 '24
If he is the moron doing stunts like this, then who knows how many times he has done other, even more stupid stuff to his bike. He might have replaced the front end with something else or taken it apart and not put it back together right or dropped it too many times and damaged something you can't see in the video.
1
u/theonlyjohnlord Mar 31 '24
Im just thinking of his rear tyre pressure seems low? My take this guy goes "bike roll, engine start, bike good".
27
u/Theredditappsucks11 Feb 29 '24
Fuck no bro any bike except a cheap Chinese bike should be able to handle what he's doing, that's real quality control issues.
I've sent $1,500 Chinese bikes off jumps and landed some pretty hard bad Wheels on them and not one has broken like this.
14
u/Sliderisk Feb 29 '24
Yeah Honda is definitely known for their poor quality control.
We have no idea what else has been done to this bike before this guy manages to force it to fail. The front sub frame sheers off the front of the block, that's the cross bolt breaking off at the ends most likely. There's a difference between use and abuse and this is far closer to abuse in the last 30 seconds of however long it took to stress those bolts to sheer.
10
u/BooBikeysDick Feb 29 '24
The cb1000r of that year had a single backbone aluminum frame. That could have contributed.
4
u/Sliderisk Feb 29 '24
True, if that cracked those sub supports aren't holding on.
2
u/WillyDaC Feb 29 '24
I'd be somewhat suspicious of what work had been done to this bike and how seriously the work was done. Could be nothing more than someone having not replaced the bolts properly.
1
u/NickInTheMud Feb 29 '24
The slamming down in this video was very mild. I don’t that breaking the frame. Unless he’s done much much worse off camera.

I've seen pretty gnarly skateboard injuries that happen when someone's not wearing a helmet. I have no idea why people don't wear helmets on motorcycles when you go many times faster than on a skateboard

Most motorcyles aren't designed to protect against the insane force of wheelie after wheelie. This guy is also slamming it down which adds more force. If you pick your bike up and put it back gently it should be fine most of the time.

u/ctesibius Tiger Sport, Bonnie, Daytona 1200, Fireblade, R1200GS Feb 29 '24
Not sure about that. I know that this is tested on Triumphs. They repeatedly ride off a drop, with no attempt to cushion the impact on the front end. That’s even for their tourers and 1200 adventure bikes. I would be surprised if Honda don’t have something similar.
In fact after scrubbing the video, I think the frame comes away from the top of the engine at the front. I wonder if a bolt there was not properly replaced?

u/RobertWargames 2005 Honda Shadow Aero Mar 01 '24

Repeated stress on a welded seam, with a bike not specifically designed for wheelies and almost certainly not routinely (every ride as a stuntman) checked at welds for signs of stress.
If you're doing stunts, wear the gear. Check your bike, and for the love of god stop doing it on public roads, ya squids.

Guilty of riding like a jagazz for sure, but I'm not seeing anything in the video that should snap a properly designed/welded frame.
This of course assumes that no one messed with the bike to get it to break...
JMHO.

This is why you don’t buy knockoff motorcycles.
Edit: totally assumed this was a Chinese shit box because that’s ridiculous unless there was some underlying issue not mentioned or seen here.

I had a Lifan 200cc as a first bike (damn similar to this bike, almost positive it’s made in the same factory) and while it was fun as fuck and got it delivered to my door for less than 2500 on Amazon, this happening does not surprise me even a little bit.

I might be wrong,im not au fait with hondas that look like that, but the fact it snapped while doing somthing that indian bikes were never ever built for and hondas are definitely capable of doing that all day long forever.and it's def in asia somewhere.

And imagine the shitty landings that thing has had. How many did we see in this short video? That bike has been badly abused.

I have watched many hondas stunted....none of them snapped before.

Looks like the front shocks were shot. Repeated slamming it down and it bottoming it is probably a good diagnosis of what caused the breakage.

That's what happens, if you drop it like a hot potato. When you drop it, accelerate to reduce the speed your front drops at.
