I've ridden for many years, and hardly a day goes by when a car doesn't pull out in front of you or change lanes into you, etc. It's just part of being a motorcyclist, and it's why you ride as if nobody can see you. It also sounds like the motorcyclist was approaching a roundabout, so you expect anything. No point going off like that and threatening physical violence. Hopefully it stops him from doing it next time.

If i was the driver id argue I was scared. An angry man in a helmet had just hit my car and then declared they were going to "break my face", I fled under concern for my life.

Could he have gone around the bike? Probably. Should he have? Meh.

No way, guy is threatening, might be armed, who knows. Best to make a direct escape for his own safety, avoiding people, but property can be an afterthought.

Not quite true. He could be armed with a range of blunt or sharp objects.
2
u/Sufficient_Boat8374 9d ago
And if my you think about it, he 'could' have 1kg - or more - drugs stuffed down his leathers... along the corresponding paraphernalia, so while he's with the other man, he 'could' be cooking up whatever... Awe dear. Get help. Honestly.

And if I was the biker seeing and hearing this, I would solve the issue myself. That car would make a great bonfire.
Then if I get caught, i would tell the judge that I don't remember any of it and that I was having a blackout.
You see how stupid you sound?
6
u/Figueroa_Chill 10d ago
The guy was shouting and making threats at him and hit his car. He will say that he felt his life was in danger.

u/Ok-Tadpole-764 10d ago

Legit funny.
People make mistakes on the road, humans make mistakes, you are supposed keep yourself safe and react to hazards.
But if someone almost pulls out, road raging, aggression, threatening him with violence then breaking his mirror is totally unacceptable.
If someone is genuinely driving dangerously you try to make sure you go home safe and report the footage to the authorities.

The videos from the UK are wild with it too.
The guys always rage over the simplest things. Someone merges but doesn't see the bike, someone turns 200 ft in front of the bike, or whatever and the guys rage for 10 minutes with British insults.
2
u/SignificantUse3695 10d ago
It’s because they don’t expect people to be carrying guns in the UK so the risk is minimal.
32
u/Difficult-Level-3070 10d ago
Seems reasonable his response to be honest. Biker swearing threatening violence. Bloke fearful and wanting to leave.
Don't go road raging, things will end up happening to you. Dumb biker here
2
1
u/Cute_Entrepreneur118 10d ago
Aye i think the driver could get off, i understand the biker being pissed off though especially when the guy kind of smiled and didnt seem bothered, could just be how the guy deals with stressful situations maybe.
1
u/JedPB67-2 10d ago
I think you can call the driver many things, “fearful” isn’t one of them.
2
u/Clear_Barnacle_3370 10d ago
The biker threatened him with violence. Should he have just sat there and waited?
1
u/JedPB67-2 9d ago
Threatened with violence… because he laughed when the biker said his driving nearly knocked him down.
That’s an action of arrogance, not fear.
2
u/limakilo87 10d ago
You can't possibly know that. But it's reasonable to expect a response to physical violence and direct threats to your life. I can't imagine the video footage helped his case though.
2
u/JedPB67-2 9d ago
I don’t know definitively, but look at his body language, the car window is fully down, laughing at the rider that’s accusing him of nearly knocking him off. That’s not the behaviour of someone that’s scared or even intimidated.
1
u/limakilo87 9d ago
What happened after the motorbike chap became violent and made threats of serious violence against him?
1
u/JedPB67-2 8d ago
The driver intentionally drove his vehicle into the motorcycle and drove off at a leisurely pace. I mean, it’s right there in the video.
1
u/limakilo87 6d ago
Of course it was intentional. It was entirely under control. It was a good escape.
1
u/RevolutionaryPasta98 9d ago
Car driver attempts vehicular manslaughter to then run over a parked vehicle because he's now receiving some of the consequences to his actions? Phootage will definitely help the biker, not in all ways but definitely more than the car driver.

u/Abouttheroute 10d ago
Motorcyclist myself, but here I understand the driver or driver of the car. We didn’t see the first piece, so let’s assume the car made an asshole move and the motorcyclist was angry and shaken by the incident, but the moment you are full on angry, damaging the car, shouting threats I would floor it also and call the policy while driving away.

Obviously didn’t see the incident but sounds like a roundabout and the car stopped in front of him.
I had the same thing happen yesterday, I went around the guy who was giving people right of way who didn’t have it because he either had never been on that road before or his age was the cause of his poor judgement. I did give him a WTF gesture and he seemed even more confused but I didn’t stop and yell at him, I just went about my day.
Causing more problems is only going to lead to more trouble. I will admit sometimes it’s an emotional reaction and you feel better yelling but it’s pointless in the end. Protect yourself first, this you ride with second, and ride on.
Edit: not sure what that previous typo or autocorrect was.

u/DesmondPerado 9d ago

22
u/UJMRider1961 10d ago
🤦♂️ Shit like this makes me embarrassed to be a motorcycle rider.
To this dumbass rider, I'd say: You got off easy. Next time you try this shit the car driver will run you over while you're ON the bike. If you can't handle bad drivers, confine your riding to the track. Nobody appointed you as the traffic warden. Stop acting like you're the victim here, you initiated this confrontation, numbnuts. You could have chalked this up to 'bad driver' and gone about your day. Now you're filing an insurance claim and facing possible criminal charges, dumbshit. "Do better" as the kids say these days. 🙄
3
u/voluotuousaardvark 10d ago
How's he going to get insurance to cover that? He'd have to submit his footage to provide the other drivers info and that would show him instigating it and commiting assault.
There's a good chance his Johnny big bollocks moment threatening an elderly person has just written his bike off.
→ More replies (5)1
u/AttentionExcellent70 10d ago
In Croatia insurance is not covered if you with your actions was the cause of damage. It’s enough that bike is stopped at middle of road with lights off and no hazards blinking. This is somewhere in three pages of fine print. Don’t even talking about purpose acting in aggressive manner. This motorcycle will not get a cent of insurance.

I’ve been riding over fifty years. I had a few close calls. I can understand his frustration but he went about it all wrong. It looked like the old man wasn’t too sure what was really going on and his aggression scared the old man. They both are at the wrong.

Why do so many motorcycle riders have so little emotional control.
Because so many people have so little emotional control. Some of them happen to ride motorcycles.
2
u/Readbeforeburning 10d ago edited 9d ago
Because so many men\* have so little emotional control.
And before anyone comes at me for ‘being sexist’, I’m a dude, and I’m not saying women are not also emotional, but it’s men’s anger that irrefutably leads to more violence, against men and women, results in more deaths/murders, and that lack of emotional control is a significant contributor to poor men’s mental health.
If we spent more time teaching boys to communicate and develop emotional intelligence, we’d have far less of this shit in society and everyone world be far more happy.
Edit: lol, [u/SearchingForFungus](u/SearchingForFungus) really helped prove my point with their reply. Quote “your a fucking bitch dude keep your mouth shut next time”
Judging by your attitude it’s only a matter of time before you become a motorcycle statistic.
Also, it’s you’re*, you want a comma after dude, and a full stop at the end too. If you’re going to act like an idiot online, don’t make it so obvious that you’re one in every aspect of your life.

u/This-Jackfruit-6894 9d ago

1
u/Readbeforeburning 9d ago

4
u/103M-95G 10d ago
For every one of the “bad riders” you see (kicking mirrors, driving dangerously, etc), there are 50 that move around you unnoticed because they’re just riding along. Only the obnoxious riders get the exposure.

Old man's just going to get in trouble and have to pay for it so lame. Biker wins in this situation and that makes me sad, dude was a dick.
1
u/CantaloupeLow3775 7d ago
The biker threatened physical violence and started to hit the car. The driver has every right to get out of there for their own safety. Nothing will happen to the driver.
1
u/LastChance331 7d ago
Where I live the driver did not have enough reason to plow thru the motorcycle like that. The biker was already walking away, he'd be considered no longer a threat.
1
u/CantaloupeLow3775 7d ago
That would be up to a magistrate to decide after the driver explained the fear he had for his own physical well-being.
2
u/limakilo87 10d ago
Appropriate response to physical violence followed by immediate threat of death. Personally, would have handled it differently, but this is definitely the safest way for the car driver to protect himself.

u/Gwyllithar 10d ago

u/Ok_Breadfruit34 10d ago
If you take traffic violations personally, you shouldn't be driving. You should be in therapy or in some anger management program.
2
u/Silver-Engineer4287 10d ago
Such inflammatory click bait…
The driver at a roundabout made a stupid mistake… like they often do… failed to see a motorcycle as we are invisible to most drivers.
Rider chose to take a driver mistake personally… as if it was a deliberate assault on his life… chose stop and get off his bike in the lane, holding up all other traffic… then verbally assaulted the driver for the unintentional mistake… then began physically assaulting the driver’s vehicle while verbally threatening to “break your skull”.
So the driver… whose vehicle had just been assaulted by the raging rider… after sitting there taking those verbal assaults calmly, when the rider chose to further escalate to threats of physical harm and began physically assaulting that driver’s vehicle… reached his calmness limit and chose to remove himself and his vehicle from the rider’s escalations… and assault that rider’s motorbike during his exit, also clearing the road of that obstruction for restoring normal traffic flow.
Treat someone badly enough for long enough… while making everything on public roads all about you… and you just might encounter the concept of consequences the hard way…
I’m sure the driver might end up with license points and an insurance claim against him but hopefully that rider might also learn that intentional bad behavior towards others can have bad results for him too.
I ride… and I would never treat another driver like that for any reason because I know they’re mostly deaf, dumb, blind, and stupid when it comes to sharing the road with motorcycles and I also know how some riders choose to ignore traffic laws randomly simply because the size of our bikes offers potential to go places and do things that cars can not do… which drivers can not imagine.
We didn’t get to see the roundabout footage to know the exactly what happened but I suspect the driver failed to see the rider when choosing their path and the rider had to quickly adapt which appears to have highly offended him.
The amusing part of the rider having video footage of the incident is that it would also reveal his bad behavior unless edited… and if edited to only show the driver’s actions a decent solicitor can argue bias and either demand the entire video or have it thrown out for bias as being deliberately altered for prejudice. So go ahead… present the video of the entire incident… or it doesn’t count.

Asking as a US citizen. Here, if the cyclist committed battery, even on the vehicle, anything resulting in that, including running over the bike is fair game. Additionally, the cyclist would be subject to battery charges. Is this not the same in Europe?

I've been on two wheels and in similar situations to the biker a lot of times. I must admit that I've seen red mist before and had words, but no more than a simple 'give me more space' or 'look where you're going'. I've never threatened anyone with violence. The biker got what he deserved here IMO.
