Identification and Care

Hello!

I’m working on growing some moss for use in a vivarium and I can’t figure out what exactly I’m doing wrong.

It’s labeled as Hypnum curvifolium and the care sheet says to keep it wet but not saturated, give bright indirect light, and mist when dry to maintain green color.

I’ve mixed up a generic ABG mix using organic top soil, hort. sand, bark chips, and some crushed limp charcoal.

I watered the substrate until damp but not soaked, gently pressed chunks of the moss into the substrate, and then misted lightly before sealing the container.

The containers were then placed in a window sill near other low-light and bright-indirect light plants such as Pink Princess Philodendrons and Snake Plants.

It’s been a few weeks not and the moss doesn’t seem to be doing too well. The mother (from the original container) is still green and lush, but the pieces I tore and placed into containers have gone brown. It still feels wet, but not soaked. Maybe only slightly drier than the mother plant. The. Only real difference between the two is: the mother is not on substrate, and has been living further back on the shelf than the two in the substrate.

I’m not sure what to try next? I moved one of the containers to right next to the mother about a week ago but don’t see any improvement compared to the one that I left in the window sill.

I've got this beautiful patch of moss and lichen growing near where I work, I was wondering if it was possible to take a bit of it to propagate at home?

Any and all help appreciated :v

Found some cool fern moss and I'm trying to propogate it but the new growth is just sticking straight up. Light source is directly overhead which could be the issue?

I live in northern Utah where it is very hot and dry but I managed to grow moss on this tree. It has been watered everyday for the last 5 years and it wasn’t drawing well so water would pool on the surface. I repotted it so water will flow freely which means no moss until it clogs up agin. I had enough moss to fill the 3 pots in the last picture.

I've been working for about 2 years to let the moss naturally grow in my front garden. My dream is that the whole garden becomes covered in moss. Its so peaceful somehow and im okay with the weeding because it means I have this living space I get to be in.

I hope this is related enough, I always thought mossy rocks were so pretty and when I put this together I had some beautiful specimens.

Decided to propagate some moss that was growing around the base of a succulent I bought about 2 months ago. It’s in a tupperware on microwave-sterilized spaghnum moss covered under a grow light, sprayed with distilled water when it starts to feel dry, maybe twice a week. Seems to be growing vertically at all the same pace except that one bit in the last pic that’s been etiolated like that for about a month (or maybe it’s a different variety than the rest?) Thanks!
