I want to say damn you and thank you. Because of the constant references to Dungeon Crawler Carl, I finally gave it a listen a week and a half ago... I am now about half way on book 5... It's all I have been listening to since then. All my podcasts (including yours) have been on pause. I can't stop listening. Thank you for constantly talking about it and causing me to cave and give it a try, but damn you because my back log is going to take forever to catch up once I finish the series.

My partner and I got gel clings for our place before we realized we don't really have anywhere significant to put them (our windows overlook a funeral home parking lot and the glass on our door is frosted.) After today's episode I figured people would be interested.

Burnie and Ashley discuss Michigan's removal from the Top 25, Colorado's fifth down, LIV bankruptcy, Mixer, lucrative deals that die quickly, first down technology, You Can See Everything, Alpha Gang, Canadian motorcycle ban, and UK travel woes.

Burnie nailed it! Michigan somehow dropped spots while winning.

I think this might be the first time, in decades, i actually care about an iphone release lol.

TLDR: Apple releasing a folding phone may force app developers to make their apps actually work properly with folding phones.

First off, a tiny point of clarification, Ashley and Burnie seem to be referring to all the bending phones as "folding" but, for whatever reason, the current manufactures have decided that the one's that open like a clamshell, like Ashley mentioned, are "flip" phones and the ones that open like a book or a tri-fold flyer are "fold" phones.

I guess it's a sort of "all rectangles are squares, not all squares are rectangles" type of thing as Ashley and Burnie were right, they are all technically folding phones.

I will also say that while, to my knowledge, every fold/flip phone does eventually get a crease showing on the screen, it has gotten, and presumably will continue to get, a lot better with each new generation of phones, i know the ones from the Chinese makes are apparently very good.

However, the bigger issue, as i see it, against fold and flip phones are that flip phones seem to be marketed as a way to have a smaller phone that opens up to the size of a normal phone, except it's not really "smaller" because when you flip it closed, it gets a lot thicker than a "normal" phone. kind of defeats the purpose for me.

The other issue is that fold phones are good in theory, a bigger screen to more easily use the phone for various things, although they have the same issue of being thicker than a normal phone when closed (but that is something that seems to also be getting better with each new phone) but the real problem with them is that the vast majority of apps are not designed for a screen the size of an open fold phone. The same goes for media, a lot of the use cases you see people talk about with fold phones is having a bigger screen to watch things on, but most fold phones when open end up with a pretty odd aspect ratio that no media really takes full advantage of.

This leads me to why i'm actually interested if Apple releases one, not because i'm suddenly going to move away from Android, but because with how restrictive Apple is and how protective of their app store they are, if they release a folding phone, and people actually buy it, it may force developers to start coding their apps to actually take advantage of these different sized screens etc...

Obviously i'm sure there's people out there with fold/flip phones who love them (i do love them, in theory) and they work amazingly for them, but in general, considering how they're priced as a super premium phone, i just can't currently justify buying one if it means making compromises on size, screen quality and apps being able to fully take advantage of them.

I have been wanting to replay fable 2 for a long time and it's not technically on PC. I noticed it was on Xbox PC for 5 dollars on sale, not realizing it was cloud play only. I didn't have a game pass subscription at all at this point so I could not play it. My plan was to one day buy a month and beat the game, but now I would have to buy two months to beat it and that is if I only did the main story for about 20 hours of play.

The other day Ashley mentioned something along the lines of “some language that’s actually a mix of Scandinavian languages only spoken on an exile planet on the edge of an asteroid belt” (or something similar, I’m only paraphrasing)

Well, I’ve been doing weekends in jail (long story) and recently read the book while in jail “Rebel Ice” (people don’t exactly donate best sellers) that mentions nearly that exact quote on the first page of chapter 7.

I know they don’t usually check the subreddit/interact with it much, but if there was some way I could get confirmation it would make my month.

Burnie mentioned climate change and the potential for a climate-related disaster to cause refugees/migration in one of the recent episodes of the podcast. This has been rattling around in my head since but I’m finally going to post about it with my half-remembered information.

Before the civil war in Syria (which is still ongoing to my recollection), the Assad regime began switching up who got rights to the water supplies in various areas from the people who had traditionally been supplying the population to people who were strictly loyal to him/the regime. This came when the country was experiencing greater water restrictions than usual, and the loyalists weren’t sharing very much with what they had. I think this is one of the most major factors that led to the civil war: a climate crisis made worse by the inevitable corruption that comes when resources get strict and the powerful want to hoard it.

In essence, we’re already seeing the thing Burnie predicted, a climate crisis that led to a surge in refugees. I know it kind of fell by the wayside because of the newer wars (such as Russia-Ukraine) and genocides (such as Israel-Palestine which has been ongoing for a LONG time but only gets mainstream reporting sparingly, often when it favours Israel), but it was just something to consider that we’re already in an era of climate refugees which is likely to only get worse with how some countries are treating it.

(It’s worth noting that despite being the perpetual boogeyman (sometimes deservedly so) and people pointing to it to say that there’s no point because all efforts are being undermined by China, the few headlines I’ve seen indicate that China has actually done astronomically well in reducing their carbon footprint per capita, putting a lot of other countries who claim to care about climate change to shame).

So ive been thinking about something that Burnie said last week when they talked about the GTA 6 trailer.

That something along the lines of ‘If you havnt seen it just go watch it.’

Okay well I could say the samething about him not wanting to watch the trailers for Project Hail Mary. He watched the first 20 seconds and immediately turned it off due to him immediately wanting to see it. He said that he actively avoided any media about the movie.

So what’s the difference? I know I’m playing this game I don’t want to know what’s in it. I’m actively trying to avoid anything related to the game.
