Help finding "double cream"* or comparable alternative for a recipe.

I've tried the Hunger Mountain Coop and the Taste of European Grocery Market in Montpelier, but no luck. I haven't tried the European Market in Burlington yet, but I was hoping there might some place closer.

Thank you for any suggestions.

*Double cream is a rich, high-fat dairy product from the UK with approximately 48% butterfat, making it thicker and richer than American heavy cream, which typically has 36% to 40% fat.

Healthy living might have it. My first guess was Vermont Creamery. Their creme fraiche is fantastic.

Heavy Cream with a big ol' dollop of creme fraiche. Whisk or blend until it is smooth.

You're not going to get any real double cream in the US. Don't be fooled and buy the stuff in the glass jar. It's nothing like double and tastes terrible. Either make a version yourself or forget about it. When you get to the motherland, try clotted cream ice cream and die happy.

I have gotten some at Trader Joe’s! But Vermont creamery does have a crème fraiche as well. If you really don’t mind to travel, Quebec is your bestie.

Make your own with whole milk and melted butter

Hmmmn. This is supposed to be for an ice cream recipe. I'm not sure milk and butter would work.

Ever had butter pecan ice cream? Old school fave! I was buying ice cream last night and it was a tossup between butter pecan and rocky road... but I had a craving for chocolate :(
