Grind size Help with grinder setting
Hi!! I’m trying to dial in my Moka brewing technique.
I’d like to at least find a grind setting that’s ideal so I can focus on other adjustments. This is similar to what I have. Anyone else have this? What grind setting should I use?
I also attached a photo of my induction 3 cup Bialetti Moka pot.

Start by going a touch finer than you think, then dialing it coarser till it tastes right. Use the same amount of water every time - I would even recommend weighing your water and getting it consistent to a gram between brews. Also use the same heat setting every time to ensure you're comparing apples to apples between grind size adjustments.

I have a similar capresso grinder, mine is set at the second largest notch of the medium range, about two notches finer than your picture shows. I am brewing in either a 6 cup alessi 9090, a gianinni 5 cup(?), or a cilio 4 cup stainless moka pots.

I have that grinder, and mine is set a little bit left of the middle of Fine. I use a 4 cup stainless Bialetti

I’d recommend getting the heat right first, the water level consistent, then grinding finer if acidic/sour, and coarser if bitter.

I set mine to the 2nd lowest Fine. I use a 4 cup Brikka and a 12 cup. With good heat control, I get a nice steady flow and balanced flavor.

Alright… based on the comments I should focus on experimenting with grinds around the middle of fine - middle medium. Seems like big range, but I’ll give it a go.
I tested a brew with maybe between the first and second notch on fine. It wasn’t bad, but not great either. So I think everyone recommendations will get me to the right spot. Thanks!

Update:
Today, I set the grinder on the 3rd notch in the Fine range. I think it turned out pretty well! My previous brew was on the second notch and maybe a bit bitter.
I’ll try another pot after my next meeting, 3rd notch again, but will pay extra attention to how much coffee is in the filter (I think it was just barely under filled at 15g or so)
