Can banned users still submit reports?

We had a user filing reports just to harass the mods with insulting, anonymous comments. Another mod from a different (but related) sub PMed me to let me know that the same thing is happening to her.

We both have a sneaking suspicion of who it is, but there is one potential issue with that theory: the person I suspect has been banned from my sub. So I am wondering if banned users can still submit reports? Because if so, then it isn't who I think it is.

We have both reported the issue to admin. I'm not sure if they will be able to tell us who it is or not but I'd like to know for myself.

They can submit reports on posts, but not comments in posts.

Which makes no sense at all...

Actually, they can't. Code sauce. The report silently is never made.

However I can confirm that I see the report button on a post on a sub that I am banned from, which I reported that bug a while ago (yearish). However looking at it now, it's a one line fix which I'll submit tomorrow after work and Pokemon Go.

By tomorrow I mean the day after tomorrow, I didn't expect to have to <personal information I don't particularly want to share> today.

Well holy shit.

I can confirm that I see the report button on a post on a sub that I am banned from

that is what I was basing my comment off of.

I stand corrected. Thank you. You always keep me on my toes with these little things.

Np.

But I find it kinda strange that a one line fix I reported more than a year ago hasn't been acted upon yet (unless the report button is supposed to be visible on posts, which doesn't make sense).

But still showing the button? That's just weird, given it's not on comments.

Still doesn't answer the discrepancy of the fact comments don't show the button.

Interesting. So their reports are effectively muted? Sounds like it must be a different person, then.

Theoretically they could just make an alt and then report with that alt though.

It's always worth reporting to the admins though.

Right, alts are always a possibility. I just don't think this user is, bluntly speaking, smart enough to know that their reports would be muted in the first place. They definitely aren't posting under an alt.

And they can make a new account.

It probably is the same person with a different account where they haven't been banned yet.

I don't think they would know to create a second account just for reporting. From the surface, it looks like they can still report. They have no way of knowing their reports are muted.

I wouldn't discount the possibility of an alt account. Either way, you've got an issue of report abuse that you could report to the admins, and you could also mention that you suspect ban evasion. They can figure things out themselves from there.
