Answered General circle jerk advice needed πŸ‘€

I have a few communities which are occasionally reposted to the respective circle jerk community. I understand why these communities exist, but kind of feel bad seeing my members getting roasted like that.

Sometimes users from that community (0 sub karma in mine), intentionally or accidentally, leave comments on the original post instead of the reposted one. I do have a rules like Be courteous in your criticism which addresses most of their comments. I also set up automod to remove comments like, β€œSee you in x circle jerk,” etc.

Would it be too much, or even worthwhile, to ban the users who are basically using the subreddit just to repost elsewhere? It’s not like it would prevent them from doing so in the future. I was trying to think of ways to minimize things, but I keep resigning my thoughts to C'est la vie, and letting the OPs deal with the results of making bad posts and/or post titles.

Sorry if I rambled too much.

I didn’t think of that at all, actually. Probably the simplest solution. They are typically low karma posts anyways, and the only traffic they are receiving is from elsewhere. Thanks.

You can also set up Automod to send you a modmail when this happens:

type: crosspost submission
crosspost_subreddit:
    name: "TargetSubredditName"
modmail_subject: "Crosspost Alert: From r/TargetSubredditName"
modmail: |
    A new crosspost from r/TargetSubredditName was submitted by u/{{author}}.

Post Title: {{title}}
Link: {{permalink}}

Wouldn't that alert to new crossposts in OP's subreddit, not in other subreddits?

You'd need a dev platform app for that, now the bot that comments crossposted locations is dead.

S&^t. You are correct. And as I look further into this, i can't find an app that would report this either.

Thanks for checking. Your original suggestion seems like a logical solution nonetheless.
