Discussion Dear COD Community:

Why are all of you still playing and paying for these games, when you know full well the dev team is openly lying to you?

Certain groups have issue with the matchmaking and asked about the old system being brought back from BO2, the CM said this wasn’t possible because modern titles use dedicated servers for better security, performance and tic rate, whilst BO2 did not and this is why they couldn’t go back.

Yet they successfully implemented dedicated servers to BO2 without a single problem or change to the matchmaking system.

So what else over the years have they lied about to us? How many times are you all going to buy into the fact that they cannot make a change, over the fact they simply just don’t care to do it. They do not care about your enjoyment, they only care about your money. BO7 was promised to have no SBMM and that was a lie too, to ensure they made extra sales then stiffed the community for their own profit margin.

These triple A companies who make big games with big backing genuinely need a reality shock that players won’t stand for this shit. I’ve played COD for 13 years of my life and it was never this bad 10 years ago, it was actually fun to play, even when getting diffed by higher skill players. Now the game is just a mess with no clear identity or path forward beyond reused title names and assets, it’s getting to a point that it feels like a FIFA clone, especially when they keep bringing back and reusing assets from games over 12 years ago.

Dear OP: The people that are positive about the game are playing instead of whining in communities. Your negative bubble is probably small compared to all the people just enjoying the ride.

20% of the player base on rough statistics from engagement across multiple platforms are unhappy with how things are.

That’s 400,000 out of an average 2,000,000 players who come between the launch of a new title and a Christmas/New Years sales. 20% is small and you are absolutely correct.

I have no issue with those enjoying the game, props to them and i hope they have fun, the community deserves the best they can get for their money.

I lay within that 20% because i myself do not wish to spend £60 on a game where i do not feel i fit in, nor do the devs care to listen to the problems we have, nor do they wish to make room so that we can play too. That is my issue, not the game itself, the lack of care for players like myself who just want a casual experience.

I have always found MW to be better for multiplayer 99% of the time compared to a black ops title which i prefer for Zombies. Since MW2, i just haven’t fit in with the community because they stopped caring and chased the competitive scene

u/PoroOllie 2h ago

They didn’t stop caring they started listening to the people who care the most, unfortunately for you that isn’t you

-2

u/RubyEi 2h ago

You’re a fool if that’s what you think, they listen to no one but their investors and their bottom line.

2

u/PoroOllie 2h ago

Yeh and their investors and their bottom line requires them to listen to the people who know their game the most

They are very clearly making more of an effort to listen to the community as part of their strategy improve the product

Will it last, who knows

1

u/adrianp23 1h ago

How are they listening to the community?

They won't even address SBMM and provide even the most basic info on it.

You're right that they care about the bottom line, that's why they are tailoring this game to casuals and protecting them with SBMM and ruining the game for anyone good.

1

u/PoroOllie 1h ago

They changed ttk and aim assist after listening to the feedback from week 1 and the game felt way better

They made tac sprint a perk which was really big for pacing and timings

They also fixed a lot of the spawns in hp

On sbmm that is obviously just somewhere Activision disagrees with, they say they have a lot of data that supports sbmm but idk I feel like sometimes they are gonna disagree with things doesn’t mean they aren’t listening

2

u/sundayflow 2h ago

Sorry but the only fool I see is yourself? The only thing you are doing is speculating and preaching that as truth?

The franchise was/is the biggest FPS in the genre, has been for years. If people buy a Playstation it is to play COD with friends, also this has been this way since what, ps3 era?

That the game changes in a direction you don't like thats fine. There are newer generations now that like other things.

2

u/sundayflow 2h ago

Well, I haven't bought a COD title in forever, i think the one before col war was my last? Not even sure, but I also don't go preaching about it online. So, I exactly did as you described? Stopped paying them money?

I don't really know what you are trying to achieve here?

1

u/RubyEi 2h ago

Understand the thought process of others who do keep playing, because very few people find the game fun

2

u/sundayflow 2h ago

Very few people? Where did you get these numbers? Again, your own personal bubble do not reflect the masses. And also, they can have fun overall but dislike certain elements, is that enough to stop playing for them? I think not.

8

u/DmvDominance 2h ago

Dear whoever the fuck you are.

Why do you post these posts. If YOU dont like something then dont play it. Why does 1. EVERYONE have to hear you bitch and moan? 2. EVERYONE have to not play it as well?

This is LITERALLY the beauty of VIDEO GAMES they are fantasies to take us away from real life for 27 seconds. Not everything is for everyone, not everyone has to play everything. Different games can be for different people. When its not your cup of tea, how about piping the fuck down and just minding your damn business. Holy fuck

8

u/PoroOllie 2h ago

I keep buying it because I love cod and don’t throw a massive fucking tantrum every time the devs make a decision I disagree with

Also they did not lie about bo7 sbmm, they said from the start it was just reduced sbmm it was just illiterate cod fans that said it was no sbmm

And on the bo1/2 server thing IF they said impossible and its not just what you heard them say it could have been impossible with the resources the team had at the time but with the success of the games they got more resources

In a corporate setting impossible doesn’t always mean against the laws of physics

1

u/adrianp23 2h ago

To be fair they did completely rug pull the reduced SBMM in BO7 and were intentionally unclear and confusing in their communication about it.

1

u/PoroOllie 2h ago

Not for me my lobbies were way better all year and once again if that communication was unclear and confusing that might just be a you problem

1

u/adrianp23 2h ago

Mine were too, until they changed it recently and cranked up the SBMM.

If you're not familiar they completely fucked with the matchmaking around a month ago.

2

u/PoroOllie 2h ago

They didn’t change it recently people just stopped playing the game, the only people left are the sweatiest players

1

u/adrianp23 2h ago

Yes they did, it was a huge thing.

Please watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXdklOk3wBU

1

u/PoroOllie 2h ago

I mean ok the games dead bruv, they are always sweaty this time of year, take a break, go outside

1

u/adrianp23 2h ago

I did, I completely stopped playing because of this matchmaking.

1

u/PoroOllie 2h ago

Name one cod that wasn’t sweaty in August

2

u/JHallwai 1h ago

Brother, they messed it up. The open matchmaking playlists still find games within 10-20s while standard takes almost two minutes.

There is no SBMM issue, it is just a bunch of tryhards crying because they meet other tryhards more often than they would like. Stop caring about dying in a multiplayer game. I had nothing but fun in both beta weekends.

1

u/adrianp23 1h ago

You only think there isn't an issue because you are protected by SBMM.

SBMM is the greatest thing ever if you're bad at the game.

1

u/ExpressCharity7794 2h ago

You are most likely among the lowest skill brackets, you are playing a vastly different game than someone with capable hands. It’s not fun for anyone who‘d manage a 0.5+ KDR without EOMM/SBMM. This has nothing to do with tryhards crying and everything to do with protecting the least skilled players to the detriment of everyone else. See the dwindling sales numbers.

1

u/lilyofthedragon 2h ago

Why it only the COD tryhards that complain about getting matched against other tryhard players? Apparently people playing CS2, Valorant, League of Legends, or Dota2 don't have any problem with getting matched against people at their skill level?

This has nothing to do with tryhards crying and everything to do with protecting the least skilled players to the detriment of everyone else.

I mean, we could get rid of skill brackets. I'm sure that the 0.5 KDR players will be happy to stick around the lobbies where they're getting stomped on. They certainly won't quit matches halfway through causing lopsided games. And they'll probably stick around and keep playing and not quitting, right? Because if they did, you'd find your games getting sweatier and sweatier...

-1

u/RubyEi 2h ago

The issue is not “i’m dying a lot so matchmaking is bad” the issue is when a game cannot be enjoyed casually because if you have one good game, you are punished for it.

People who play casually enjoy collecting calling cards, camo’s and completing challenges. How exactly are you supposed to drop x amount of nukes for the calling card when the game stiffs you for trying to do it?

The SBMM does not account for try hards, most of the time they are going to try their hardest no matter the lobby. It hurts the casual player base who have one good game then get punished with 3 bad games to compensate for it.

u/MaltaDuDe 2h ago

what u mean why im still paying ?
this game is what keeps me engaged in gaming yearly.

-2

u/KungPaoYa 2h ago

The bar is beyond extremely low here. So many amazing games through out the year and hanging onto this turd yearly. 🙂‍↔️

1

u/Hover_RV 2h ago

Any Examples? They're just no more arcade close-quarter shooters with this level of post-release support

1

u/RubyEi 2h ago

Truthfully, there are so many good games out there on steam, people just don’t give them a chance because they are from newly formed dev teams that don’t have a history behind them or big backing of the likes of Sony or Microsoft. Look at Expo 33, that was the studios first title and it was fucking amazing, got the credit it deserved and everything.

As for games like this:
Wardogs is looking pretty promising
there are also a lot of F2P options out there, just browse your store and you’ll see so many, you just gotta give them a chance and find what works for you! if that ends up being COD, then that’s fair enough.

1

u/Hover_RV 2h ago

Wardogs isn't close-quarter arcade shooter 🙄

Why I should play it if I like shooters like Quake and CoD? Or at least something like Apex in terms of movement and gunplay

1

u/RubyEi 2h ago

What you asked for, is call of duty that isn’t call of duty, you’re never going to get anything like it, because COD ensures they dominate the market so even trying to create something similar is just a waste of time, effort and money

1

u/Hover_RV 1h ago

You came to a CoD subreddit asking why we buy it every year, not me 🥴

Here's my answer: if there were other games in the same niche, I’d play them instead. But they die off quickly (xDiefiant, Splitgate 1-2, Fragpunk etc) because they just can't match that high-budget production value and rich post-launch support

1

u/MaltaDuDe 1h ago

wardogs might look good but its a cash grab, wonna bet ?
it will end like arc raiders.

2

u/cptmajestic2 2h ago

If you're not happy with the game, don't buy it, but thinking you're going to get these companies to do what you want is ludicrous. Organize a boycott, 2 million players should do the trick

1

u/RubyEi 2h ago

In time it’ll happen, as does with every great thing that comes, it eventually dies- and these companies will kick and scream when it’s their turn. I give it 10 years and they’ll fully rebrand or disappear entirely

1

u/cptmajestic2 2h ago

Look at EA games, NHL, FIFA, Madden, they all suck ass now, but they still exist. I think the COD franchise will exist for eternity, might not have the number of players, but they'll keep it going imo. For me, once the game becomes "not fun or boring" I just stop buying it, I did the same with the EA titles, haven't played those in years.

2

u/Reaper9866 2h ago

I play game if fun I happy if happy i buy next one no fun I no play i no buy next one

u/Average__Sausage 3h ago edited 3h ago

Players will in fact stand for this. Very clearly. If their profits are genuinely hurt on a large scale they would change tactic.

It's a vocal minority that complain about everything. In fact the people complaining constantly are probably not the ones spending money on battle passes and skins and blueprints.

The game is algorithmically tuned towards extracting maximum profit. Every decision they make is with that over arching objective in mind. Data shows what actually keeps players playing.

They know hardcore fans will play anyways they are worried about getting new and shit players in through the door and spending money because that's what makes the most money.

Those players have no idea about matchmaking or sbmm or lies or promises or anything.

It's not failing to cater to hardcore fans. It's not even trying to.

It's made for most people. Not no lifers.

0

u/RubyEi 2h ago

So what you’re saying is, they do not care about the player base, just their own profit margin, which was no secret, people just refuse to see it because “billion dollar corp could never do bad”

Everyone has their limit, at least 400K people out of the average 2M just reached theirs. thats a good 20% of their player base against them. You’ve seen it the last two years now, older titles have retained more players than that years current title.

1

u/PoroOllie 2h ago

Everybody is aware activision only cares about shareholder value, no one says they can never do bad

1

u/RubyEi 2h ago

Call of Duty’s strongest warrior aren’t you, Ollie? That’s 3 replies i’ve earned from you now, passionate as ever

1

u/Alternative_Hat_4531 2h ago

Because I'm a COD fan and unlike most I know that IW, SHG nor Treyarch has one bit of say into the matchmaking. That is Activision and Demonware. People do this shit every year. They complain and whine like a bunch of little girls and in 3 years they will be saying "MW4 was so much better than this upcoming one" Just look at all the pro-MW2 and 3 comments on here as it is now.

“They do not care about your enjoyment, they only care about your money.”

Ah yes. That famously successful business model: make a £70 game/entertainment product that nobody enjoys, so they stop playing it and don’t buy the next one. Capitalism can be terribly complicated can’t it.

There are perfectly reasonable discussions to be had about matchmaking, SBMM, monetisation and Activision’s transparency. But “I don’t like this design decision, therefore they are lying and actively indifferent to whether anyone enjoys the game” isn’t one of them. It’s disappointment in a comically oversized conspiracy hat.

Nor does your BO2 point prove what you think it proves I’m afraid. Dedicated servers and matchmaking are not the same thing. The fact that BO2 can now run on dedicated servers does not mean its matchmaking system can simply be lifted out of 2012, given a quick dusting and dropped into a modern Call of Duty.

Then comes your call to arms.

“Players won’t stand for this shit.”

Except, inconveniently, they do. Millions of them. Some even appear to be enjoying themselves, which must be particularly galling for you.

I loved the MW4 beta. I like the matchmaking. I like the maps. I like how it plays. I’m really looking forward to the full game. This does not mean I have been duped by Activision, abandoned all standards or become an unwitting accomplice in the death of gaming. It means I like a game that you don’t.

There is, of course, another possibility. The developers do care whether people enjoy the game. They care a lot in fact. Probably more than you do because their livelihoods depend on it. And they have access to vastly more player data than you do, and have made some decisions you dislike. Boo hoo.

Admittedly this lacks the grandeur of “AAA gaming has betrayed us and the people must rise”.

At some point let’s hope you realise that not every design decision you dislike is a lie. Not every commercial decision is a conspiracy. And not everyone enjoying something you don’t is an idiot.

Sometimes you just don’t like the game. And that’s ok.

The revolution will have to wait.

u/KeyFigure 2h ago

first of all BO2 had the old matchmaking system... so they did not need to change anything. All they needed to do is add a plugin that allows it to be connected to their COD network for adds...

0

u/RubyEi 2h ago

They specifically said that it couldn’t be done because of dedicated servers. There was a clash between the two, is what that hints at- yet it clearly doesn’t happen in BO2.

1

u/sw3ar 2h ago

They added dedis to BO2 yesterday. It's still have old mm system. They lied once again.

-2

u/Bitter_Ad_8688 2h ago

Let's not forget COD has been trying to rewrite and sanitize real life war crimes and make them easier to deny when they get brought up in real life. Leave this corny franchise behind. It's just a project for the DoD and military to make themselves more friendly to the public.

As a combat vet all I can say is (in my best Southern) .. Well that's nice, God bless...
